If you could time travel and plonk yourself in an American music store in 1951 you might be able to buy yourself something that very closely resembles this guitar. It's a Fender American Vintage II 1951 Telecaster, built as closely as possible to the specifications drafted and used 70 years ago. And I'm a little bit in love with this one. I've been saying that a lot lately, with the recent Fender reissues. They look great, play great ...they even smell great! I will be doing my damnedest not to let this one go. Twang on. Great stuff, Fender!

Back in the 80's I had a 52 reissue and I liked it okay. This one seems similar but better. Teles are my favorite guitars. No matter what else I play, I always come back to my Tele. This one sounds gorgeous!

Just ordered a used 1951 American Vintage 2 Telecaster today, will have it in a few days. We must have similar tastes in guitar, because I think we both own the 70th Anniversary Esquire, which is also an awesome re-issue. I love the necks on those early Telecasters.

I wouldn't know how to act having a true US strat or tele. Played a tele I don't remember the actual build name but was Fender US had a push pot in the volume that gave a boost. It was white and absolutely amazing played through a AC 30 for the first and only time. I was then sold on teles. Hahah.

The funny thing is, I tried one a couple of months ago, and this is the only time I can compare myself to Keith Richards, as I felt it felt too new. Gorgeous to play, but found my hand sticking to the back of the neck as my hands warmed up. Nothing that a bit of 'self-relicing' wouldn't cure I guess! But, what a sound! Even my clubby fingers helped in making a glorious noise!

Here's a pro tip that will solve that problem: don't use steel wool; get a grey Scotch-Brite pad and use that to knock some of the gloss off the back of the neck. You can't go wrong this way since it is very gradual and impossible to take too much off without noticing.

I’m glad they went with the modern switching/tone/volume control wiring instead of that wacky system the Tele was originally designed with. Just like the AVII ‘61 Strat has a modern 5-way switch. These are fantastic guitars now that Fender has ironed out the QC issues that apparently plagued the early runs.

Sounds very similar to the Broadcaster reissue you reviewed last year. I bought one of those partly based on you review. How would you say they compare?
@BrettKingman
@BrettKingman Жыл бұрын
Yes, they're not that far removed. The Broadcaster has a lighter shade of Blonde if I'm not mistaken and the 9.5" radius. I kept that one so will have to dig it and some others out for a shootout.

@pedromaldonado4803 Жыл бұрын
The broadcaster actually has a 7.25 radius as well. I was lucky enough to find a new one weighing under 7lbs just several months ago and absolutely love it. As far as sound is concerned it’s as classic as can be.

Hi David. If it's the same amp I used to own, it was sent over from the US via Pro Guitar Shop in Portland, who I used to work for. They wished me to use it for their pedal demo videos at the time. It is a Ltd Edition for sure and was a seriously great amp. I only sold it because I went to Fractal for my amp needs but I still miss it. Go for it.

It's a shame the AVII series guitars are so heavy. Fender seems to have abandoned making guitars at the $2K price point lighter. It's tragic because otherwise these models are great in every other way. (The average weight of a blackguard Telecaster in the 1950's, which is what this model is based on, was 7.3 lbs.).
