John please! You made me so nervous cutting that box open. I'm a country boy from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia USA. The first things we are taught here is how to use firearms and knives for hunting purposes, which by the way I never liked doing and lied to my dad when he ask me if I ever saw a deer while out in the woods 😂 I get that not everyone is fortunate enough to have grown up the way I did. I saw a video once with Paul Brown and Larry Carlton cooking a meal at Paul's house here in the Nashville TN area. The same thing happened. I had a massive panic attack when I saw a guy who's hands and fingers could be some of the most important hands and fingers in the guitar world, CUTTING TOWARDS HIS HANDS AND FINGERS WITH A SUPER SHARP KNIFE. One slip and that could have been devastating. I'll never forget the fear my dad instilled in me as a child when he said "never ever cut towards your body. Always cut away from yourself." Dude, we need you to keep your fingers and hands safe. Without you making these videos, people like myself would miss out on a ton of much needed information. I probably just came across as a grumpy old man. Though the tiny knife you're using couldn't hurt a flea, I just wanted to throw that out there for those times when you might decide to use a bigger one. Love ya brother!

@@smithersjones7541 in short, line level signal is quite a bit hotter than instrument level. "Line level" generally refers to a signal strength between +4 dB and -10 dB. Most professional-level audio gear (e.g., power amps and signal processors) is designed to work with this level of signal for both the input and the output. "Instrument level" is a much weaker signal at about -30 dB.

@@1man1guitarletsgo I find it difficult to get the Hot Rod Deluxe to sound good at low volume levels. It sounds great when you can crank it and add pedals, but that isn’t very often these days. But that may just be me. The TMP into the FR-12 gives me a lot of versatility. I don’t feel it would be as loud though, even at 1000W but that just isn’t important these days. Everyone wants you to turn down anyway.

@@ozhoodguitar Thank you. I made a simple passive volume control that goes in the effect loop of my Blues Deluxe Reissue. Not the same as a power amp attenuator, but it makes it easier to tame the amp at home. Any pedal with a volume control, or a graphic eq would work just as well. The wattage quoted for these new digital amps seems pretty meaningless to me.

Just ordered mine. Used a few different high quality monitor solutions, QSC, EV, JBL, Boss, Yamaha...All good/great in a home environment but fall short when playing live with a band. I always resorted to sending the modeler(kemper) to a tube power amp and guitar speaker which was truly amp like for me. The only one that really worked well live was the JBL srx835, but at $1700 and 56lbs its a beast price wise and weight wise. If thing sounds as good as they say then it's going to be incredibly hard to beat at this price point and with the look of a real amp..nicely done Fender. Ok Marshall/Mesa Boogie your turn....although I don't think can touch the price.

It sounded great in the intro. Have you ever tried the MF 10 from your friends at G66? May be they could lend you one. The thing I struggle with is that if you are going to play live through a PA, don't you need to build your presets so they sound good through the PA and if you tune them to sound good with the Tone Master then will they still sound good through the PA?

You set your modeler to your liking and run straight to the PA. All the settings on the FR are only for you. No one else will know. It’s bypassed.

Hey John, side question… what do you classify your playing style as genre-wise and where can I best learn to play like that? I know you mention your affiliation with Truefire but is there a particular course, instructor or genre you would recommend? I’m a self-taught, rock/metal player but have been very mesmerized by your playing and the music you put out in the intros of your videos. Thanks!

I don't know exactly but he has multiple videos in which he mentions learning off of Eric Johnson and that he bought/followed some Eric Johnson 'masterclass' thingy (and being an EJ fan he does use EJ chops like 5/7 note pentatonic groupings and complex voicings). You should also look up Jack Gardiner, who imo has a similar sound and uses similar 'note choices' as John Cordy. His videos even usually follow the same format where he starts out with an improv so it's a similar type of channel too. Maybe a bit more of a flashy player a la Guthrie , but incredible improvs and always the same melody-first approach in a more-notes style. Imo if you want to get intimate with similar sounds and patterns as John Cordy goes for in his improvs, look more modern (sounding) melodic players. Maybe start with dudes like Eric Johnson, Jack Gardiner, Plini, Owane, Holdsworth (john has a holdsworth improv/backing track on YT).. maybe Satriani too. Most 'virtuoso' type or fusion gerne players, but I'm not that well versed in fusion itself. John's style genrewise I think fits mostle somewhere around (soft-) fusion. Fusion is a genre that takes from jazz, blues, rock, r&b.. which you can all hear in John's improvisations.

Modern fusion with mix of progressive metal. Lead tone is very modern to my ears.. Quite a distorted smooth tone - quite misds heavy, which helps legato playing and sweep picking.

@@robertritchie2860 yup. Fusion/modern instrumental prog virtuoso type of leads. Also I Cordy usually uses quite 'dark' and thicker tones instead of bright high gain stuff. Think edge breakup to mid gain

Can you play a bass through one of these speakers (just for bedroom practice) or will that damage the speaker? I play guitar mainly but I have 60 watt bass amp for when I play bass. I was wondering if I could use one of these for both guitar and bass. I will using either a Boss GT-1000 or a Two Notes Cab M+ for amp simulation.

How does a BOS ME90 sound through it? I want to use the amp modellers but sound awful though my blues junior. As much as I love the amp, being on a covers band I think the multi effects will give a better representation of the songs we play rather than using just two overdrive pedals and a delay + chorus..
