Great video! What do you think is the best option for stage sound with the Quad Cortex? Power Amp & Guitar Cabinet, or Fender FRFR Cab? Thanks!
@TONEWARSgearshow
@TONEWARSgearshow 6 ай бұрын
Both options are really good. that said, the Fender FRFR cab is definitely going to be more affordable. if you're going to use a real cab and power amp, I suggest the KSR PA50 all tube power amp for that. it sounds awesome. most of the solid state power amps people use with their real cabs sound very anemic and thin. When I performed onstage, I always used in-ear monitors so I didn't need a cab on stage with me. in my opinion, that's really the best way to go. If I wasn't using in-ear monitors and I needed to make a decision today on what I was going to use between the 2 options you mentioned, I would go with the Fender FRFR. it sounds great, it's lightweight, and it's less gear to purchase, maintain and drag around. I hope this helps

The feel was really good. when I switched back and forth between the cab and my monitors they sounded slightly different but they both sounded equally good if that makes sense. This is the first time I switched between studio monitors and an FRFR cab and liked both of them

I dont have a huge problem with amp profiles, but I do have an issue with people trying to pass off Chibsons as real. Sounding like something doesnt feel like a counterfeit to me, but physically impersonating something does. Its weird.

Hey Jared! Do you have some general tips for capturing with ToneX? You said that you had a learning curve with capturing in a Video some time ago. If I remember right you said for example that the signal chain should be as short as possible. Do you have more tips? To this point I did hundreds of captures myself. Solely direct captures with a high quality loadbox (St. Rock React:IR). Some of them sound great, others don’t.

I totally agree with you regarding line 6. They will come not out with a new helix, but that doesnt mean they wont come out with some sort of new unit. If they dont come out with something that does profiles/captures they will get left behind. They only way they will catch up to fractal is if they make a new unit with more dsp. That means a new unit as well. But the Quad Cortex sounds much better and that is because of the captures. I had all 3 of those units and I find the QC superior because of the capturing.

I think the Hx stomp XL is the perfect form factor and outstanding tones for any no frills guitar rock n roller. Theres just no need to buy these high end modellers that can do all this crazy stuff when the average joe uses about 20 percent of its ability. People saying the difference in tone between axe FX helix kemper quad cortex etc is night and day are fooling themselves. Is there a difference?...yes. Is a couple grand difference?....no. Are the sounds hugely different?...no.

When L6 came out with some new Helix limited colors a few months ago I knew there would be no new Helix for atleast another year. I would just like their amp modeling to get retooled to have some feel and not be so weird when you do palm muted on the low E. The unit form factor itself I still think is the best made. If they would just add profiling to it in the software I’d buy another one the next day.

Helix has alot they can do to improve with the hardware they got. They can come out with a profiler or something. I dont give a damn about profiling. You cant tweak the sound and i usually cant stand other peoples amp settings. You got to add low gain to helix sound. Once you do that it sounds as good as axe fx 2. They got some work before it matches axe3..and i believe they can do it with the current hardware I say all that but id buy your mezzbarba profile im sure

There's no way that Line 6 would come out and say were coming out with a new floor modeler in '24-'25 and watch what little sales they have on the Helix dry up to nothing with people holding off on the new unit. I doubt that they are selling many Helix floors at this time anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if something was announced sometime this year.
@benburnett8109
@benburnett8109 6 ай бұрын
After lots of soul searching, I've come to the same conclusion Line 6 has. A new Helix is not needed. For profiles, Tonex is the only Ethical Company Left. Kemper has gone bat crap cra cra and Neural is full of convicts and didly no-do's. Fractal is too busy sueing everyone so they are no longer a factor. If people want to pay nearly 5k for an amp that has less features than my counter top skillet and sounds roughly the same; then they should do that. I suspect most of those people will put it on a shelf and wax poetic about the "handmade components that were sourced from Parts unknown" all while they drink Bud Light and also wax poetic about how bad the orange man really is.

@philfort7886 6 ай бұрын
Kemper will add paid upgrade. In my opinion, this will be their downfall. Quad Cortex, good product but awfull company and doesn't deliver their promise. Line 6, the only downside are the amp, because the effect and unit is on point.

Regarding the whole Slash vs John Petrucci thing, We all have different tastes and like different things and that's perfectly fine. On a technical level, JP is far more superior than Slash. Honestly, John has also written a lot of memorable and very melodic solos. The solo for Barstool Warrior is absolutely amazing along with many others such as Lines In The Sand, The Best Of Times, The Spirit Carries Cn etc.. You should watch him play that solo live on the "Score" DVD. it was amazing. All that said, they both have their place in the industry and I think they both have added things to it but in my humble opinion, JP is the superior guitar player. Just my opinions. Cheers 😄

As far as Helix 2 is concened, its all semantics. Certainly theyre working on the Next Generation FlagShip modeler. It simply wont be part of the Helix family. Itll be something entirely new, much like the Helix was to thr HD500 series. IIRC, Helix dropped not too terribly long after the 500X. I think to get less veiled comments out of Erik Klein, forumites shouldnt refer to Helix 2 or "the next Helix". Despite people MEANING the exact same thing, it wont be called Helix X or 2, or HX next or whatever. If people agreed to call it the Next Generation FlagShip, or NGFS, or the next primary L6 modeler, or the Line 6 Bunghole; youd get differing legaleze answers. L6 is notoriously tight lipped about their upcoming products, as well they should be. Patience folks. The NGFS is coming. Maybe not this year, but its coming.

I don't understand why people bring the artists into the gear. I understand their name is on it. But for me, take the name off of it and compare amp to amp or guitar to guitar. I own a Jason richardson and a JP. I prefer the Richardson. Not because of the name, because I like how it feels, it fits me better. I played both of those guitars before buying them. I didn't even know Richardson had a signature guitar. I picked them both up because they looked cool, and when I played, I liked how they felt and sounded. So, to me, take the name off and compare it.

I definitely have to disagree with you about Slash. Appetite and Illusions, hands down Slash has written more iconic (better) solos than JP. What about November Rain? ‘Give into me’, the solo he did with Michael Jackson!!! Slash has done more for guitar than JP could imagine and I’m sure JP would actually agree with me. If I created a top 10 list of best solos ever written, Slash would definitely be in there twice. JP wouldn’t even make the list. And I’m positive the majority of experienced players would agree. Choose your words wisely, I’m considering unsubscribing for disrespecting Slash. Go listen to the Illusion solos

Thanks for sharing your opinions here. that's what this channel is all about. Hopefully you don't unsubscribe over something like this but if you do, all the best to you. With respect, John Petrucci has the number one selling signature guitar in the history of signature guitars. I think that solidifies his position in the guitar community. Dream Theater is definitely not as popular as Guns & Roses because they're not a mainstream band. there are prog and their songs are 10 to 15 minutes long on average. That said, on a technical level, JP could easily mop the floor with Slash any day. I'm not being disrespectful by saying that, is just facts. Go look at the solo for "under a glass moon" That will some things up easily. I kind of feel like we're arguing over Superman VS Shazam LOL. I hope this is all in good fun. have a great night
