Sara, thank you so much for putting together such a detailed tutorial. It was so, so helpful (and confidence boosting!) for this new sewist. I'm finishing my first fennel pack this morning and it's been so fun. I'm so happy to see you have non-plastic buckles in your shop and I'll be ordering a bunch soon for future fennels!

This a fantastic tutorial, thank you! So detailed and clear. I bought the Fennel Fanny Pack pattern as I thought it would be a nice little project to ease me back into sewing as I've not done any for quite a while. Whelp. I think this is going to go in my 'sewing projects to do....one day' file! Sooo fiddly.

This was possibly the most fiddly thing I ever sewed up, partly because of fabric/supply choices (a very thin cotton lining that rips easily, combined with very sturdy/bulky zippers, oops), but I DID IT! Thanks so much for this video, without it I would've given up. Can't wait to start using my fanny pack

Hi! I just tried a Fennel for the first time and I found this tutorial to be utterly essential. Thank you so much! I really like the way you don't edit out all the fabric management that goes into lining up and pinning your seams. Bags are tricky and it helps to know the best way to cleanly get the part you aren't sewing out of the darn way lol. I have a question though. Did you use the pattern's original dimensions for this video? The 2.5 in wide top and bottom panels end up being so narrow after they're cut in half and have the zipper sewn in them. I only used a 1/4 in seam allowance on the zipper and it still felt like I barely had enough fabric to pull apart and sew the outer and lining main panels in without a lot of pulling and strategic pinning and cursing, haha. I rewatched this video and your top and bottom panels just look a little more generous than mine did somehow.
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 2 жыл бұрын
Glad that my video helped you! 😊 I ended up widening the depth of the bag after making/filming one with bias binding version! It's a dilemma as the original size is way cuter than the bigger one but it only fits for my phone! Oh this pattern includes 3/8" SA not 1/2". 1/2" SA could make your bag even smaller! 😊

Stay tuned for the second video (about the Bias Binding version originally instructed in the pattern) coming soon and happy sewing this holiday season! My only modification here was to lengthen the width of theT/B Panel by 1".

so on the drop in lining you I should lengthen the width of the top and bottom panel by 1 inch. ?

Very nice pouch, thank you. I would cut the corners of front and back slightly rounded, that would make it easier to sew on the “top- side- bottom panel”.

Thank you so much for this! The video is lovely, and extremely helpful. A question - do you use 4 of the large-size lining pieces? I'm on the last step and can't figure out where I've messed up, because I don't have a lining piece to finish with.

@@SewingTherapy Sorry about that! I checked out your blog, and think I figured it out. The pattern calls for 3 main panel outer layers and 3 main panel linings, but you use 2 main panel outer layers and 4 main panel linings, correct?

I'm in the process of making this fun bag with the drop in method. I purchased the pattern a few months ago. I see you have commented on lengthening the width of the T/B Panel by 1". Is this something we need to do? Or was the pattern updated to include that measurement. My biggest struggle was I am following the PDF pattern and also watching your video and getting all mixed up because the steps are entirely different. I finally realized the PDF pattern is only the bias binding method. So I'm going to try a 2nd bag and see how easy it will be. It sure is cute and I'm looking forward to making more!

@sodawing

I love this video so much and it really helped me to finish my fanny pack, but all the seams are so bulky. Did you cut your seam allowance down at all? I feel like the lining doesn't really sit nice and flush in the bag. I didn't use interfacing, though, so that might also be part of the problem.
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 2 жыл бұрын
I liked its bulky seams as it makes the bag more structured in the shape. If you don’t like the lining’s movement in the bag, I recommend handstitching every corner, which will help! Thanks for watching!

So completed my first Fennel Fanny Pack using the Bias Binding method. I am now working on another fanny pack using the Drop in Lining method and have a question. At timestamp 7:24.... attach top panel and bottom panel. At 7:36 "sew only the zipper area thru all the layers". So what is the zipper area? Just the zipper tape that is visible between the top and bottom pieces of the main panel OR the entire 1 1/4 inch zipper? Hopefully you understand what I am trying to ask.
@SewingTherapy
@SewingTherapy 2 жыл бұрын
I indicated the area with my finger which is the width of the zipper! Hope I understood your question right and answered right! 😅

@@SewingTherapy Ok thanks. I will assume we need to sew the entire 1.25 inch zipper and not just the zipper that is visible. I am going to experiment with the drop in lining method before I start the next Fennel Fanny Pack. I just finished my 2nd fennel fanny pack using faux leather with the bias binding method. I also widened the top and bottom panel by 1 inch as you suggested in one of your replies. What a difference that 1 inch makes. Again thanks for your tutorial.
