Well, I'm not a licensed hair stylist however I've been doing my hair and other's hair for over 25 years and you are def doing the right thing. Detangling before washing is essential, not just to detangle but to get those shed hairs out, which create most of the tangling issues. Conditioner is the best aide for detangling imo. And you definitely still need to condition after shampooing. Specifically, "deep" conditioner isn't 100% necessary but is better for hair health. Regular conditioners alone are fine to use for before and after. Deep conditioners tend to be thicker and may not have the slip necessary for detangling. I think you already know, you're doing great! 💕

I was going to say the same thing you said but I'll add you need to be deep conditioning at least 1 a week , when able( so if you're not wearing protective styles and I would say always After any protective style)

You can absolutely use conditioner to help detangle prior to shampooing it helps close the cuticle back down reducing snagging. The shampoo with raise the cuticle layer to help remove debris that could be stuck under the outer layer. So to maintain internal hydration after you’ve cleanser and replenish lost oils to maintain cuticle health you want to use a conditioner again. Hope this helps. Conditioning before shampoo as a detangling method? I feel like that's obvious, but it never crossed my mind haha. Thanks, I will try this :)

I detangle while shampooing because my shampoo has AMAZING slip. Now, it’s only a finger detangle because I then condition and set angle and then deep condition detangling some more. By the time I deep condition and detangle its cake. Be sure to emulsify your conditioners. It makes for better spreading ability. Also use lots of water when detangling. You obviously know what you’re doing. These notes are for our other tangled sisters.

according to cosmetic chemists, there is no need to use a conditioner after shampooing if you're going to use a deep conditioner after shampooing. What is it that your DC isn't doing for you that makes you feel like you need a conditioner after since you have already detangled with it in the beginning. I think since DCs are usually thick, sometimes they lack slip so if you detangle afterwards, I can see why you might add a conditioner. Or if your DC is protein heavy, maybe you might feel like you should add a conditioner afterwards to balance that out? But generally speaking, the formulation of a conditioner and a DC is kind of like the formulation of an emulsion (moisturizer) and a cream. People with oily skin tend to prefer emulsions whereas people with dry skin prefer creams.

Why? Her hair is gorgeous in its natural state and she has learned what works to maintain it. What would be the added benefit of locing?

Would you say the rich one is enough? Seems like the deep conditioner didn't add much. You are beautiful by the way!
