I fully believe that this was the feral's first hunt after being blooded which is why he is so desperate to prove his skill and honour when compared to the jungle hunter who has assumadly been hunting for years they use different tactics the jungle hunter isnt trying to prove himself he is hunting for a challenge which is why he uses the plasma caster so much until his final fight with duch the feral is using close combat because he is fresh out of the ceremony and wants to prove himself

Bit off topic but I love how the Predator wasn't able to kill the Grizzly bear straight away, the bear actually posed a decent threat as it would if it were real.

The whole plasma caster thing could be that, given the Feral Predator is from a different habitat, his weapons may be more suited for his regional needs: he's from the desert, he relies on thermal vision, so the last thing he needs is another heat source blurring his vision. Maybe even cultural differences within the species, same as humans, lead to different types of weapons used according to the region they come from. Or even just pure personal preference. Idk, but love your content!

Personally, I think the reason the predator killed the fur trapper (Rafael I think his name was, the one who gave the flintlock to Naru) was because he surprised the predator. Remember the predator couldn’t see him due to the orange flower, so when the predator stepped on his leg and he screamed in pain, I think that startled the predator and he reacted by reflex. Similar to how some people throw punches when someone jump scared them. Also regarding Naru defeating the predator, yes she had shot him point blank in the head, a major wound. But also remember, the predator takes a lot of damage through the movie. I think this predator takes more damage through the movie than any other predator in any of the movies. the wolf bit his leg and bear messed him up. The warriors from Naru’s tribe are able to stab him in the foot and the fur trappers are able to land several blows with their traps and muskets before being slaughtered. All of which takes place before his fight with Taabe. Taabe spears the predator through the shoulder which can be a crippling injury, then shoots the predator several times before being killed. By the time Naru actually fights the predator, he’s taken several serious injuries, he’s tired, lost a lot of blood and none of his injuries have had any time to heal.

From what I've read, the predators for the most part try to "match" the offensive capabilities of their prey. Hence the wrist blades and combi sticks to match the claws and tail of a xenomorph. Feral may have earned a plasma caster, but decided to use the more primitive version to match up with the arrows and muskets of the time.

the more I watch Prey, the more things I find little things I love about the lore of the Yaitja. Also, this might sound silly, but the teenage daughters and wife love Naru, and I haven't seen them cheer for the hero overcoming and killing the villain since Brody blew up the shark in Jaws. I'm very happy the movie showed a lot of that indigenous spirit. And I find it fun that everyone in the whole house is enjoying watching this movie a lot.

Just to keep films chronology aligned with one another. I'd argue that the Feral Predator is simply the first of his clan and subspecies to hunt on Earth, and that other predators have visited the planet before.

The thing that bothered me about the ending was that she didn’t take the arm with her. She seemed like she would have the mindset to see value in the weapons the Predator had against either more of its kind or the colonists that encroached on their territory. On the other hand, she may have been ‘encouraged’ to return the body and all of its tech to the clan.

I think the reason it doesn't have a plasma caster is due too A. It's name as a "Feral Predator" so it may prefer more close quarter combat and maybe it's clan does not have that many high tech stuff per say B. It's bit of origin we get from the creator may indicate that the feral predators are a sort of outcast or disconnected group of Yautjas from the main clans

This is really something that's set prior to the original Predator movie, and the Predator creature in this one, this is its first time travelling to Earth." - Dan Trachtenberg Additionally, though you may be doing so, I really don't think we should be taking the comics into consideration for movie continuity. Considering the movies have a pretty strong habit of ignoring them anyway. By all accounts from the films, AvP is still canon to the Predator films.

He killed with way too much skill in close quarters. He was extremely reckless but dangerous. I think it was just his Style and personality. He’s definitely blooded but probably a young blood. In the bear fight he got whooped for a second for being Reckless and Overly aggressive but then Immediately switched up his style of fight and took the bear out with one strike. Same thing happened against The guy at the end.

To be honest, i watched prey several times and the second time he had the skull of the rattlesnake on his belt but it was hard to make out since they are small and when naru shot him and took his mask he was more mad that she took his mask without killing him and just running away, and when he cut off his arm accidentally he wanted to end the fight quickly to not get more injured for how dangerous she is, but overall he fought with honor and so did naru in the end despite just using tactics to her advantage

I heard a fun theory that Gray-Back was so enraged that a predator had its head taken as a trophy that his tribe wiped out the Comanche village and that's how he ends up with the pistol.

Some ppl thought it was strange that the predator was killing animals. But considering that it was that predators 1st time to earth, how would it know that humans are at the top of the food chain.

It's lowkey hilarious how Naru hands down fought & beat her Predator in the most intelligent and strategic way out of every movie protagonist thus far; but *certain people* swear up and down that it makes no sense.

An explanation for the crossbow instead of the plasma caster that I liked is "personal preference". There are many gun owners here in the states but they don't all keep the same type of gun. This tribe or individual might just like arrows better

I always had a sneaking suspicion the feral predator was likely more experienced than a young blood at least, but lacked the clarity to point it out. i really do enjoy his habit of getting getting into personal grapples with his prey while not being afraid to get nicked. in defense of the feral predator killing the one legged guy. We have to keep in mind that the feral predator was the one to cause that injury while the man was armed. By right of shedding his blood The predator should be allowed to Finnish of his prey. I really dig how the Feral Predator is a desert dweller, but I would have liked to have seen a design akin to the original Jungle or City Hunter under the mask.

Let´s just be honest here, Feral is an impulsive fool who underestimated every living creature on Earth. Not one fight he managed to leave unharmed, he was less hunter and more like a thrill seeker.

I don’t think the plasma blaster is “not invented yet” as those ships are pretty advanced. It seems like they could be taking certain weapons and excluding others based on the planet. That cloaking device is also advanced

I always thought that the Feral Predator used the "Crossbow" and his melee as a preference to him specifically. Kind of like how some people like to hunt with hunting bows instead of guns.

Bound by honor and fearless. But after he was heavily injured he was careless, that's why he lost. While in the meanwhile Naru gains more experience and focus. Was proven before that humans have the ability to outsmart the Predators.

Animals fought feral predator because they could smell and sense it. The feral Yautja is dishonourable because when he kills humans he was (in the most part) cloaked. He kills Taabe whilst cloaked and from behind him too. That’s what a badblood would do. It’s a unique hunter because he picks and chooses his codes of honor as he goes. Some of his kills seem juvenile and others works if mastery. Great look at this kind of hunter. /_\

10:15 don’t forget that the Feral Predator also took a ton of damage before this, I mean it’s own weapon had deeply penetrated it. I don’t care who you are getting hit by something like that in that particular way is going to make you weak and tired.

There's this review I read of Prey... Some dude just blatantly saying "The pred in this movie runs around on the ground like a stupid newb instead of sticking to the treetops". Like, bruh... How many trees exist on a hot, desert land? This video makes so much sense, story wise. I love Predator lore.

Naru winning is actually impossible. Some people brought up that Scout forgot how does his weapon work, and that he couldn't have killed Naru with it because his helmet wasn't on his head, and although this is still a fair point, its not the best example. The Predators (including Scout) are monstrously strong, strong enough in fact to best a grizzly bear in close combat. Then, how can Naru survive being punched into the ground by one? She just walks away like if nothing happened, while she should have had her spine broken.

I do agree what you have said but When I first saw the movie I thought the predator was more of a brawler because of the excitement or adrenaline he gets from it.

Each clan has somewhat different tech and type of weaponry, which makes me like to think. That as a warrior they design, build and customise some of their weaponry themselves (individually not the whole clan) to suit them or make them stand out as an individual and as right of passage as a hunter.

I feel like Feral's probably a Young Blood, maybe freshly Blooded. It's the Predator universe, so you kinda have to ignore AVP canon. Unblooded would imply he's completely inexperienced, which he clearly isn't. He clearly has a preference for melee combat, and hubris is straight up the reason he chose to engage most in close quarters. However, there were some blatant mistakes on his part (wolf bite, bear knocking him down, getting caught in traps) that indicate he may thrive on injuries during the fight, but he isn't a perfect fighter and battle rage gives him tunnel vision. Then his screw ups with his spear gun indicate that not only is he inexperienced with it, but that it might have been his very first hunt using it. He forgot numerous times that the spears were laser guided, or simply misjudged how strong the tracking was. He's a mostly honorable hunter, with some mistakes that he likely would have been punished for. Cloaked fighting against animals may have been permitted since it was deemed that animals can sense him past the cloak. Feral killing Raphael may have been forgiven considering the scream may have reminded Feral of the Comanche war cries and even startled him. The way he killed Taabe was dishonorable. He was right to cloak when injured, but he should have either disengaged to heal, or re-engaged head on. Stabbing him from behind while he was distracted would have been cause for penalty. All in all, he's a really neat take on Yautja culture.

I'm glad that more and more people are getting into Predator with the success of Prey, like Key Issues; but as a older fan, I have a few issues with the overall analysis. 00:36 AvP is still considered Canon, to the Predator universe at least. This is supported by more examples than a quick rundown in a Marvel Comic that may also be incorrect. The AvP Requiem Movie has a special feature in it's extras that serves as a In-Universe dossier that details events from all Alien, Predator, and AvP films and some outside media like the Concrete Jungle Video Game at the time of AVP Requiem's release. The Wolf Predator from AvP Requiem also appears in the Predator: Hunting Grounds Video Game alongside a detailed biography that establishes that the events of the AVPR movie occurred in the game's setting, which is in the year 2025 and officially continues the story after The Predator. The game also has definite Lore from recordings by a older Dutch, Sean Keyes from The Predator, and even Isabelle from Predators. (The Marvel Comic's Timeline may be incorrect due to the Hunting Grounds establishing that Predators may takes place around 2024 due to Sean Keyes describing Isabelle spending to around a year on the Game Preserve Planet. That combined with her Lore Tapes and In-Game Biography, there is no way Predators does take place in 2010. The Year was never even obvious within the film so the writer must have took the release year and ran with it.) 3:47 Completely unsubstantiated. Even the Director themselves have confirmed that this was this particular Predator's first hunt on Earth, not the first Predator to arrive on Earth, despite what the marketing said to drive attention. 5:37 I would have waited to see what the NECA figure for Feral would have said, as well as the Ultimate Greyback figure to really start going for this but it's a cool theory, not a lot of concrete information. It would be very hard to place any Lost Tribe member, at least Greyback there. 6:09 The City Hunter being Blooded is a little inconsistent with the Hunting Grounds game calling him a "Youngblood" but there's honestly little difference since he was "newly Blooded" like the NECA bio says. I personally don't believe Feral was Blooded for a reason. Let's say City Hunter was Blooded and was easily killing gang members in the beginning of the movie. Feral was taking his time in analyzing a snake, wolf, bear, and then ended with human. I can get the "showing off for clan" thing, but different clans work in different ways like you have mentioned with the blooded naming conventions so Feral taking the time to study Earth creatures and being characterized by this after supposedly killing a creature known for surviving on pure, cold blooded instinct doesn't make much sense to me. 9:00 Director has stated that Feral not having a Plasma Caster doesn't mean that the Plasma Caster was not around during that time. He just thought the weapon was too OP. Also like before, different clans work in different ways. The Isolated Clan from the AvP Movies do not work the same way as the Jungle Hunters or in the same way as the clan that Feral belongs to does. Overall though, I enjoyed your video and like seeing a new voice enter the discussion.

I will say, this predator was impressive, he was bitten by a wolf, mauled by a bear, shot with arrows and bullets, and took a shot in the back of the head all before the final fight. Big guy took some major hits before going down.

the only reason i thought he may be recently blooded but still a youngblood was because it would make sense in his parallel to naru, showing that this is both of their first true experiences hunting to prove themselves to the clan. maybe the predator did kill a xenomorph, but only barely (or in an unhonorable way) kindve like how naru basically killed that lion only to get knocked out from falling out of the tree and having her brother finish the job… so both of them had 1 unhonorable kill and then were tested with a true hunt (each other) to determine which one was truly worthy

He’s monstrous and probably a little psychopathic, even for a predator. He goes out of his way to put himself on perilous situations and I think his choice of weapons reflects this. He loves violence and domination.

If I was a clansmen of the Feral Predator I was impressed especially when he fights and kills the bear that scene was awesome.

In regards to the xenomorph blooding ritual i do think that has been retconed. Blooding might just be a case of hunting something considered a challenge ie. a river ghost or a clever human or some other alien out there in the galaxy.

I think it was the first time a Yautja came to Earth in this version, because AVP and Requiem are not cannon. Hence killing every other threat like the snake, the wolf, the bear, and finally humans. Working up the foodchain if you will.

I'm glad someone else is finally able to recognize the timeline changes and discrepancies made by Prey. People keep lumping the various continuities together, but it's not that simple when new movies are introduced which serve to retcon past films. While I appreciate what the AvP films brought onto the lore, I always felt like they seemed out of place in the timeline with both film series, and it worked in Prey's interest to simply retcon its history by making the Feral Predator the first Predator hunt on Earth. Similarly, even Prometheus and Alien: Covenant have gone on to retcon the AvP films from the Alien film canon. Also, I agree that although Feral Predator was arrogant, it was an experienced hunter and most likely blooded. Rather it's worth noting that since Prey is working under the assumption that this is the first time a Predator hunted on Earth, it meant that the Feral Predator it was still learning from this new environment.

What many forget is that the director stated that it was this predator's first time on Earth, not the first time for the species itself

I'm with you on thinking the Predator is blooded. The idea I have about the lack of the plasma caster is that the weapon would be too big of a cheat against the primitive weapons of the natives. The predator showed himself to be honorable and took a more conventional ranged weapon on this hunt

Regarding the canonicity of the AVP films. If you look closely at the lab in The Predator 2018, you can actually see the spear Lex used in the first Alien vs Predator, so those movies are still canon as long as The Predator remains canon.

Definitely Blooded, but still looking to prove himself. Showing off by doing stuff like hurling the bear trap. Wading into combat like a berserker. Feral was awesome, and if his ego was better tempered he would have been a force of nature. I chalk it to the pride of the young. He had the potential to be another Wolf.

I love that the Predator was almost designed to look like a WENDIGO, and when Naru heard the ship in the sky she mentioned hearing the "Thunderbird" stuff like that is so effin kool to me.

I think he was an unblooded predator and this was his first hunt, also he was way to overconfident which led to his defeat he couldn't have killed a xenomorph to become blooded because they aren't canon anymore. I think he was sent there to find the most challenging opponent, and bring its head to make him blooded.

I believe that all the predator helmets would be functioning in the same manner as the ferals did. It just so happens that their helmets were locked and a simple blow to their heads wouldn't have taken them out. I also believe that the events which transpired during the end of prey forced the yautjas to invent the locking mechanisms for theirs helmets as they saw the design fault of the feral predators helmet through the live transmission.

from my viewpoint, feral seems more like a bad blood than a blooded hunter. for one, he breaks the honor code a couple times by killing the cowering unarmed frenchman, attacking in normal (non stealthy) combat while cloaked, and killing prey as low as snakes. from my first impression on him, with him being dropped off on earth and his ship immediately flying away, i had assumed he had been marooned by the rest of his clan. we've seen this in the comics before, with bad bloods being stripped of their gear and left on a planet to fend for themselves. even when his clan was coming back in the credits, i had assumed that it was to retrieve the tech naru had potentially exposed to humans. but, i realized that it was likely to imply that the clan was coming back to kill naru. why would they do this if they werent bad bloods? they usually come back and respect their dead yautja, take the tech back, and reward the killer in some way. if they were coming back to kill her, it'd be out of spite instead of honor. maybe the desert yautja are ones that have been outcasted because of their bad blood nature? it'd make sense, they'd theoretically have contact with the rest of the yautja and be able to improve their tech by this point, like scout's subspecies. in general, it seems like they're almost completely different from normal yautja, in both honor and technology. maybe they're all currently spacefaring because of being driven off of yautja prime by enforcers? i feel like bad bloods are a big part of yautja lore that's being overlooked when theorizing about this movie.

For all we know Feral is a Hish hunter instead of a Yautja hunter. The skull he wears as a mask could be part of a Amengi skull. This might also explain the different facial features and slimmer build Feral had vs Jungle/City and Berserker.

There is one dishonorable kill at the end! Its the last human he killed in the film. The guy did point a weapon at Scout, that is true, however it didn't fire and Scout knew that. He actually killed a crippled human who posed no threat to him, and that wasn't by accident like with the translator.

I think the bear trapper kill was a mercy kill. He was one of the people he slayed in a fair fight, but his attacks didn't kill him. so that's why he did it

I think the whole theory that the bolt caster he had in this movie makes sense. They could tie the movie into a sort of interstellar situation. Like the tech in 300 earth years advanced quite a bit but on their planet it could have been thousands.

Well I would love to see and hear about a totally different type of species that live in the desert regions almost like the people in other parts of the world and also he is blooded because typically only the young ones travel in groups of 3 and on there first hunt he was alone so that typically makes him blooded if you follow the typical lore of there kind. But anyway I think it would be fantastic to see a whole new species of them living on the outskirts of the cities like you saw in avp where wolf came back from a huge city like place just to see them like the native americans used to live would be fantastic

Why did the water not affect the cloaking as it did in predator? and ash did? was it a more advanced type of cloaking than the one in predator? I always wondered this after seeing prey

I’ve always had a mind to have a difference when thinking of continuity in the Predator movies. Same with Alien. It’s not until predator 2 that we see the alien skull and actually the comics after started the AvP line of thought. I like having a timeline with out the two species didn’t meet. So now… Prey, Predator, Predators Then have… Predator 2, AvP, AvPR at least that’s my head cannon.

Given that predator tech was simply taken from the amengi when they overthrew them, the feral predators lack of plasma caster use most likely comes down to personal choice opposed to the idea that 200 years would deliver vast technologic leaps for an interstellar race. Especially when looking at predators life spans in general, 200 years is nothing.

He does have the plasma caster he specifically chose not to use it you can see it folded down on his back in the first scene you see him cloaked at 3:59 you can see the shape of the plasma caster but he doesn’t use it because t is his very first hunt after being blooded he only uses the bow and arrow caster because that is all that his opponents had he was very honorable and parts when he killed her brother was him being desperate but not desperate enough to go out of the weapon perimeter that was set

I think the feral species have plasma casters as well, but the feral in prey probably wasn’t deemed worthy enough for one yet.

My theory is that the feral predator is an early Super Predator, and that this is a soft lead in to Machiko's plot from AvP only with Naru. The ships that come at the end of the movie to her tribe are the "tech predators" coming to enlist her aid in their civil war. The next movie will have her becoming BFF's with the Predator 2 Elder when hes a young yautja.

Their honor code is dubious but I think if they know they fought and injured you before they consider the fight ongoing and you fair game unless you make it blatantly obvious you won't put up a fight Which is easier said than done

Yautja must be a pretty old race do to evolving many subspecies considering how long they can live.

Heard that feral has a big claw mark on his back i don't know if it is true. Feral is pretty cool breed
