During our 2014 National Conference Sinclair Ferguson, W. Robert Godfrey, Steven Lawson, Albert Mohler, and R.C. Sproul answered questions ranging from addressing how we should speak with those who have embraced a homosexual lifestyle, to the use of images of Jesus and recent movies featuring biblical themes.
Questions:
1. How do US army chaplains stay faithful to God and His truth, and provide the gospel to same-sex couples? How do they stay faithful amidst the persecution? (00:00)
3. I have a son who has entered in to a homosexual lifestyle. How do I handle this, how do I act, what do I say? (02:58 )
4. I have many Christian friends who are libertarians and say the state should not be involved in marriage at all. Is this a correct position? (14:13)
5. I have a relative who is constantly trying to say that if I try to say something is false or sinful I am "condemning" the person or the thing and am not being loving. What do I say in response? (23:13)
6. Is personal peace and affluence the biggest impediment to Christian witness? (28:37)
7. How do I explain the reality of sin? (29:41)
8. Since there is one God, why is it that we have so many different views and denominations? (30:27)
9. We live in a rural area without access to solid biblical teaching, let alone Reformed teaching. The nearest church with such teaching is 2 hours drive away. How should we agree to meet with and serve when we don't agree with things taught from the pulpit? (36:04)
10. Dr. Lawson, could you elaborate on the Lord's concept of salt and light in the Sermon on the Mount and how He describes Christian character? (37:40)
11. Dr. Mohler, is homeschooling a retreat from the world? Can we put children in school and expect them to engage the world? (42:05)
12. What is the biblical way we should think about movies such as, Son of God, Noah, God's Not Dead, and Heaven is for Real? (45:25)
13. What words of advice and encouragement would you give to someone teaching three and four year-olds? How do we prepare them for a world that will be against them if they follow Jesus? (54:20)
Note: Answers given during Questions and Answers sessions reflect the views of the individual speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Dr. R.C. Sproul and Ligonier Ministries. Here is our Statement of Faith: www.ligonier.org/about/who-we-...

WhipperJesus How about Voddie Baucham or Conrad Mbewe? Would you have mentioned race had they been involved, because they are in plenty of conferences and plenty of Q&A sessions. The only reason anyone should take offense by what these men are saying is if they are answering against the sins of those who are offended. In that case, I'd recommend you search the Scriptures to see that these things are indeed so and repent.

They are great men. I wish though they address more the problem of toxic feminism and how it’s corrupted our churches and society. It’s now 2019 and we not only have gay marriage but male transgendered athletes demanding they compete with females. Who knows what’s next. The root of many of these problems is feminism. It’s toxic and it must end. Women must be taught how to embrace their femininity, they must start raising boys to be masculine. They must start managing their homes and properly raising their children. What good is it to protest abortion and gay marriage if we are silent about toxic feminism.

@@artcurious807 I think there is a basic underlying root cause of feminism as with all other manifestations of humanism. And the root cause, to name a few, is sin and hating God.

Wow! Thank you, RC! I have been SO deeply blessed by this Q&A. Hearing/Witnessing the Word of God so exemplified by these precious Brother's in Christ is such an encouragement to me. I love you all in our Savior Jesus Christ who reigns supreme! With absolutely no disrespect for the others here on the panel, I so appreciate Dr. Steven Lawson. I saw a 20 min. clip a while back of Brother Steve who (on the spot) shared the Gospel in what was a very secular crowd. Without blinking an eye, the unadulterated Gospel of Jesus Christ was presented in the hearing of dozens. It is quite a lesson to me that not only my life is a testimony of God's work in my life, but also my verbal testimony is even more important. How will folks know the source of my strength unless I share Him with them? Thank you, again! My spirit just soars in the presence of Truth! All praise to the Risen King this Easter season! He is risen indeed!

Lol. I am at peace with my Lord regardless of the situation. The only thing you were meant to do is hear the Word of God as it is written. You did hear it but the god of this age made you deaf. You did not answer the verses of Scripture I sent you and since you do not understand it anyway, I won't waste my time with the spirit of error in you. May the Spirit of His grace lead you to repentance and believing in our Christ the Lord.

You have no idea of the chronology of Scriptures. You are prejudiced and have no idea about the way His Spirit made it I inffalable and He did not start with the English speaking world. You haven't a clue about the other ones and how Luther did his work or Tyndale. Let alone our early Church fathers. Your profile is empty just as you a cloud without water for whom darkness is reserved forever. That is a true statement! However, I hope that you will repent and except Jesus Christ as your Lord in humility and many tears as we all have shed and continue to repent daily with tears of joy after we have been disciplined. Question #1 about military chaplans is why when I was in the US Navy I never changed my rate from AE to RPO. Too many compromising requirements for chaplans, but even more so for those RPO's that assist the chaplan even back in the 1990's. I was told as an RPO back then that we would have to assist and be involved in every religious practice whether Christian or not. Back then the way it was explained to me was that they required RPO's that professed Christianity, assist Wiccans, Buddhists, Islam, Hinduism, Roman Catholicism, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc. The Chaplans back then did not have the same requirement, they were allowed to practice only their faith with the help of RPO's.

But just in case you were wondering, skin makes no difference in a man, it is his heart which determines his outcome. In other words it is what they do with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

WhipperJesus given your comments I would strongly urge you to reconsider your perspective that elites wrote the Bible as means of control ... more likely elites used the Bible to misinform the public at large and used it as means of control. My point here is explicit in its historical context when you consider what the reformation was about. Way back in the day reading the bible or owning the bible was not allowed. If you're not making these comments purely for the purpose of trolling I would like you to read just one chapter: Romans 12 (ESV) ... My fav chapter

With R. C. gone now to be with his Lord, any and really all of these mostly older men, decades as pastors, admitted "theologians," we are going to very soon see much confusion and false teaching...R, C.and Sinclair Ferguson...mostly R. C. the only one who understood the bible completely or so very near that. He constantly corrected all these men and they teach, preach and write books...so often simple questions many of us "layman" know, these men struggled with or could not answer. I still stay into writings and audio's of Albert Martin, Dr. Lloyd-Jones, Spurgeon, my favorite Puritans...Ligonier will only be as good as they are if they keep all the Sproul teachings, by him, on the air, and in the bookstores. Sadly, Ligonier was held together by this one amazingly gifted man...no others can keep it going. Sad indeed.

Wonderful discussions..I do think Mr Godfrey may have been misunderstood a little regarding images and movies. In movies he indicates he does not like Christ being portrayed as personality emerges that could vary so much. This is different from static art imagery from antiquity. The distinction was not seen by the other panelists.

Regarding all the discussion on marriage, I didn't hear the fundamental value of marriage as recognized by the state at all. That is to say, even in a secular society, there is a meaning and purpose for marriage and it isn't about love nor sanctity. It was never about love nor sanctity. It was always about supporting orderly strategies for maintaining and perpetuating a healthy society, and by this I specifically mean the family unit--a man (a father), a woman (a mother), and a natural order to support having children and raising children, who themselves are encouraged and supported to be trained up in the way they should go. Without a society that collectively supports (via government) this structure, the demise of the society is guaranteed, as procreation is itself a mandatory component to the human race. I think "to do otherwise is forgetting God" is just about the WORST argument towards a society that refuses to recognize religion.

The genetic research has already been done on this too. Dr. Joel Wallach, Nobel Prize nominee for his work, in his resource "Epigenetics: The death of the genetic theory of disease transmission" and his "Rare Earth's Forbidden Cures" has identified out of his 26,000 autopsies performed that necessary mineral deficiencies were the cause of "gay behavior" in animals. It is not "genetic" in the sense of the genes coding for gay behavior, but "epigenetic" in the sense that the absence of necessary minerals which act as co-factors for the genes structure and function, there is a key absence of normal range of coded material in the blood stream degrading the default programming toward gay behavior. That is the medical science on the issue.

+The Rebel Wolf I feel confident that Dr. Mohler would affirm that the Roman catholic church does NOT teach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. No Gospel, no salvation. Secondly, I don't know his exact eschatological view but I will add this one last note; I don't think it's fair to categorize any believing, faithful, orthodox Christian as "loonie" based on their view of eschatology. There are quite a few Orthodox views. Some are more solid than others.

I myself am an Army Chaplain. I see no problem with ministering to homosexual soldiers because the Army is not the church. If they want to marry, I will simply direct them to another chaplain who can provide that service for them. And if they say they want my advice, I will give it to them straight from the mouth of Jesus the strongest wisdom they can receive, which is this: "It was not so from the beginning." What does that mean? Read Genesis 1 and 2 to see the God's version of the beginning: man and woman was the original wisdom of God for family, culture, and the human race. Since the fall there are three God-ordained institutions: the family to train morals and faith into their children (which homosexuality destroys at its heart), the church to pass on the Gospel of Christ to future leaders (which not even the gates of hell itself can destroy), and the civil authorities which train fear into the criminal (which are constantly being cycled between raising up and tearing down). But that is a separate issue than what they are discussing here--the soon coming impossibility to function as a gospel representative in the military context. I have personally experienced direct, and outright opposition to any free expression that mentions Christ, and/or any biblical morality. The Chaplain's job is to advise in matters of morality among other things. And many of them are giving up the wisdom of the Scriptures to maintain the position of their occupation. Many are sincere devout Christian Chaplains who are ministering to many commanders who are not only not Christian but increasingly ANTI-Christian out of a vein ambition to try to represent all faiths when all faiths are simply NOT compatible. When it comes down to it following Christ wherever that may lead is priority for those proclaiming the true God and Gospel. I see Sprawl's vids like this and it reaffirms in me just how much of a reformed Christian I am.

***** There is no "fear" involved whatsoever. And you really need to withold your mouth before you research these conclusions about Christ that you assume to be true. 12 apostles? Yea. Gay? Hardly. No first century Jew would have been. There is no "good theological case" for homosexuality within the sphere of Christianity. Once again--read Romans--particularly the first few chapters and how they fit into the rest of the discourse. If you had the guts to actually check yourself which clearly you don't. You don't show a care for truth, you show a care to back up homosexuality. Sproul is right--you people love the destruction of marriage, family, and everything that stands as a symbol for God himself--which the union of a man and woman does in every way--by wisdom, by complementarity, and especially by the longevity of the human race established through it. Your hatred for everything God drives you into your own grave.
@5crownsoutreach
@5crownsoutreach 10 жыл бұрын
***** Wow. There is so much ignorance here its hard to know where to begin. Firstly, and most importantly--"Jesus" and "Christ" refer to the same person, at least from a biblical perspective. The epistles use the designation "Christ" in the same way we use last names today, and this is the reason why Paul tells us he only "preaches Christ crucified"--because "Jesus Christ" was the one who conquered death from the cross. So talking about one necessarily implies the other. You clearly thought there was a difference and now you know there isn't. Secondly, to challenge his historicity completely reveals your historiographic ignorance. His life death and resurrection--yes, all three--are more historiographically verified than the existence of Plato and Aristotle combined. I know your pagan mind can't fathom that but it is a fact that every historian has to deal with. Oh, and let's deal now with your pagan notions of "loving God"--sexual love is not something the true God demands for himself, but in the Christian/Jewish view it is a gift giving between the original male/female pair that he created (and humanity has been traced to an "original" couple from a genetic perspective, look it up) so this is an act enjoyed not only designated between that pair alone for functional reasons (unless you devalue children, which all pagans have through history, that's why they sacrificed them to their so-called gods) and so your need to include "sexual love" in the same sphere as the loving God reveals your pagan mind. This is a pagan mentality--its why the Greeks in the first century and many others had temple prostitutes to honor their pagan gods, and was also the reason the Apostle Paul says to stay away from them. So no--I have not "fantasized" about any man-god figure because the Holy Spirit that rose Jesus Christ from the dead would not fill anyone with such images. And turning to your genetic argument (the most common form of "I am born that way" argument) also reveals your ignorance of genetics. Modern geneticists have demonstrated that specific regions of the gene code are affected (turned on and off for protein production) by the choices and practices that are made in the lifetime of the individual and that the residual of these effects made by these choices on the gene code is inherited up to the fourth generation ahead of them, leaving their kids to deal with it by their own sets of choices. (a number of TED talks on this issue) There is a great deal more to say but you have enough to chew on now. The only "arrogant" one in this conversation is the one who feels the need to air the dirty laundry of opinions outside of the need to do some research before opening your mouth. Why? because hiding behind your opinions keeps you from having to face the facts since you are to scared to change them, and then accusing me of being "arrogant" keeps the argument off those very facts. In other words--get over yourself. Quit talking like your a Christian because you have revealed your pagan mentality through your testimony. I don't personally care whether you are or not, but don't talk like you've got something to say about Christianity cause you're a pagan.

John Baker You want humor, you go to comedy central. Those laughing while watching others sifting through history and science are making an alternate function for their mouths in the absence of contribution. Again, you want funny--there's plenty of comedy vids on you tube.

In humility I ask, why be Calvinistic in your answers? John Calvin was fallible. I love Dr. Sproul, but his persistent defense of Calvinism is grievous to some of us.

He's not being faithful to Calvin that's a misunderstanding he is being faithful first to what scripture says.

To be faithful to the Word of God, is to be a calvinist.

Yes John Calvin was fallible, and in spite of his fallibility, he preached the sovereignty of God, who through the doctrine of predestination, has ordained an Elect to join Him in the Kingdom of Heaven. Total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints. He preached the infallible Scripture.

I do find it a little concerning that RC corrects Godfrey by referencing what Calvin did and believed. Okay, so maybe Godfrey disagrees with Calvin. Wooptydoo. I am reformed and I think Calvin is possibly the greatest non-Apostle to walk the Earth. But I don't agree with him on everything.

Are you concerned about the substance of the correction or the subject that was corrected? I hope, no matter my intellectual prowess, that I remain humble and correctable. I love the truth.

You know, when the passion of the Christ came out many were moved to repentance and converted! I agree to ANY tool to gain recognition of him!! Wether in a movie, book, song whatever! As long as it brings in the people to know of him!! Whatever it takes! I love these men but they are so narrow minded in their scope of things and opinions!

They agreed on prudence with respect to images of the Godhead. I don’t see them as narrow minded, rather they’re being reverent toward our Creator. Remember who God is.

99.9 of those like Emeel or whatever his name, end up retrieving back to the darkness from whence they came from and hide behind a photo less picture while they yap off to you as if they are alive in the Spirit of the Lotd and know it all, but even worse that they know our Lord. Then you ask them according to the Word , and they will do everything like slander you and attempt to get you in yo an argument just to avoid the verses of Scripture you asked them about. And here goes another one in the way of darkness and corruption to serve the Spirit of error. No doubt this Teerim or what ever his false name will be back with a another profile to lead someone astray.Thank you Lord for delivering us from the spirit of error. For Your honour and glory for all the ages to come. Amen.

As far as what Jesus looked like, I would submit that He had a large nose and kinky hair. These are typical Jewish features. One verse that hints to Jesus' physical appearance is, believe it or not, in the Old Testament book of Isaiah 53:2-3 : 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Jesus did not look like Fabio, with a chiseled white jaw line like is seen in romance novels. What the world would see as Godly handsome, Jesus was not. This aligns with the scriptures that He humbled Himself. Anyone can say what they want (this is what is projected everywhere in modern culture). Research these texts.
