Today is a follow on from yesterday's video. Here I check the quality of the spark and do a compression test.

Just a tip, compression test is always done without any spark plugs to rule out a blown head gasket between cylinders, my teacher said it over and over again

Hi Buddy hope your well and your family whats your plans for fergie a full restoration or just good running order had to laugh when you tried to start it and when fired sounded like a cow going mooooo lmao keep up the good work🐄

haha cheers mate. Hope you and the family are well. Hopefully give the fergie a good tidy up and overhaul the oily bits. Don't want it to be too perfect as it still needs to do work from time to time!

I would be scrupulously cleaning every bit of the ignition system first. When i was a lad my father had an old Guy lorry with a Meadows petrol engine, it would have been of a similar age to your tractor. With the slightest bit of dirt combined with damp on the distributor and plug leads, she was always a real pig to get started on a cold damp morning. Once cleaned it would always immediately bust into life and run well. I dare say the fuel system would benefit from a clean out too, thats regardless of the unique fuel blend you're using. As for the hydraulic issue with the bucket, just keep well clear of the danger zone underneath it. I knew a man who got crushed to death under one when it dropped all on its own a few days later. I cleaned the ignition parts that didn't fall apart in my hands! The ignition leads are very brittle and barely holding on. I have cleaned out the fuel tank and the father in law rebuilt the carb. It was starting well before he put the diesel/petrol mix in! Yes indeed, I will be very careful working with the hydraulics. I adjusted the lever which seemed to help and hopefully they do as they're told now. Fuel prices are down quite a lot from where they were. Petrol is around £1.40 a litre and diesel is similar. We don't pay duty on diesel at the pump, you have to purchase Road User Charges on top of that at a cost of £42 per 1000kms for a standard car.

You just love those hydraulics, admit it! I suspect a new rotor arm, new leads, cleaned or replaced points, new condenser etc would have it singing. I also suspect the bores etc are fine and you just need to decoke the cylinder head and re seat the valves.

I managed to adjust the hydraulics and get them working better. What a mission! I cleaned up some of the ignition parts, the rest started falling apart in my hands. It'll get a good spruce up and will be starting first pop like it used to

Just as a matter of interest, what pressure should the compression be within the acceptable range?

The best I could figure out, 100 PSI or more is fine

@@Badgertronix What with one of the cylinders showing 100PSI, I guessed as much. 80PSI for the others is amazingly good, even so.
