Sor wrote a mass for his daughter, who died in 1937 - his last work. I should like to know, if it has ever been recorded.

And remembering Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, who published this concerto in 1773, five years before Sor was born.

Wow. You can really hear the Mozart influence. He *almost* quotes Eine Kleine Nachtmusik in the first movement, but then you hear some of the familiar harmonic devices he used in the guitar works. I definitely need to listen to more of Sor's orchestral work.

Except that this concerto was published by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges in 1773, 14 years before Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Sor is a great composer, often mentioned as "the Beethoven of the guitar", but he was born in 1778, and it's pretty hard to imagine how he could have written this. As about influences: it's more likely that the young Mozart was influenced by this, than the other way around.

This is apparently NOT by Sor, this concerto is composed by Chevalier de Saint-Georges and published in 1773.

Chevalier de Saint-Georges is the composer, that comes to mind first - but F. Sor might have studied him.

never knew that Sor composed for the violin... its pretty diferent from his work on the guitar, where he is more romantic than clasical. And what suprises me more its that he never composed a guitar concert. well it supose to be a Concerto in D for the guitar, but ive never listen to it.

+Sergio de deus nascimento I don't think the Grand Solo was meant to be a part of a concerto. We so desparately wish that guitar giants like Sor (and personally, Tarrega, Aguado, Barrios Mangoré) have had written guitar concertos (for Sor, my personal expectation is at least 5 guitar concertos, especially after hearing his Fantasies and other giant pieces), that modern day guitar composer like Nikita Koshkin composed orchestral part for the Grand Solo! What dissapoints me is that such great composers, like Sor, compose a violin concerto, ballets, etc. and not a single guitar concerto! Just like Chopin's saying (I hope it's a true statement) that "Nothing is more beautiful than a guitar save perhaps two" (he meant two guitars), and yet he did not compose even an iota for the guitar! Some kind of mystery is behind this picture (not writing a guitar concerto), that I haven't been able to decipher. On a positive note, I hope one of our living guitarist legends (like Pepe Romero, etc.) would embark on this violin concerto and arrange it into a guitar concerto! THAT would be treat! :)

WindsorPro well there are a lot of concertos for the Guitar but all with the modern and contemporary language , l would love if today composers wrote in the Clasical , Romantic and Baroque styles. Actually l was hoping to read a link to the suposed Guitar Concerto in Re from Sor :/ because lve heard everyone there is between 1500 and 1900 and they are just a bunch.lm gonna check the composer you mentioned, and for the arrangement that would be awesome, but l still have a doubt if its really from Sor

Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829) composed three guitar concertos (many recordings available); Ferdinando Carulli (1770-1841) also Luigi Legnani (1790-1877) and Francesco Molino (1768-1847) . Baroque lute concertos by Antonio Vivaldi, Adam Falkenhagen, Johann F. Fasch, Karl Kohaut, Johann L.Krebs and Johann S. Weiss have been performed and recorded by guitar soloists.

This concerto was published by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges in 1773, five years before Sor was born. Mozart was 17 at that time, Beethoven about three. Most Romantic composers weren't even born yet. So don't worry, the problem is not at your end.

I don't believe Sor composed a violin concerto while he did not write any guitar concerto. And the music is definitely not Sor's. It's close to Mozart.

If you know F. Sors style well enough, you should be able to recognize him. He is using the "gestures" of his time, which, at certain times could remind of Mozart.

Es posible que este concierto no haya que atribuírselo a Sor; pero es completamente seguro que Sor escribió un concierto para violín. Es algo que indican sus biografías.

This concerto (Op. 2. No. 1.) was published by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges in 1773, five years before Sor was born. Mozart was about 17 at that time, Chevalier de Saint-Georges 28. Chevalier de Saint-Georges and Mozart lived in the same mansion for over two months in 1778, that's when they could influence each other, and it's very likely that they did; however Mozart's influence on Saint-Georges was probably less significant than the other way around.

Not bad but Here he tries too hard to be like mozart, at some parts even sounded the same as mozart, I still love his guitar compositions tho they are top notch.

This concerto was published by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges in 1773, five years before Sor was born. Mozart was still a teenager at that time, so it's more likely that he was influenced by the much older composer's music.

His music here is not in the same quality as Mozart's or Beethoven's. The lack of 'depth' in his composition is obvious.
