Coming from the arguably the greatest manager in football history we should know how good Fernando Torres was at his prime. Moreover Perez tried to sign him since he was in youth team of Atletico but Torres didn't even consider going to Real Madrid because of Atletico Madrid.

In all honesty, Torres really did well for a team, that was not really that great in comparison to Manchester (and Arsenal and Chelsea) at the time. Liverpool were a bit of an upper mid tier team at the time. And he did well to perform at the level he did in that context. Unfortunately he then signed for Chelsea, who did not play the kind of game that was suited to him.
