Ferreting in derbyshire with NEW mooching bag!

In this video I meet up with moucheroutdoors and we go hunting for rabbits with lurchers and his hob ferret. All the rabbits will be eaten and nothing is ever wasted.
It looks like someone has beat us to the rabbits at the first destination but we have another place in mind. This second spot has a good number of rabbits. We checked it the day before and the dogs were marking most of the Warren's. Keep watching to see how we get on. Rabbits are a pest in the UK and are in season all year round.
We like to manage the rabbits so we can harvest them through out the year providing us with good quality free range meat.

First trip to try that bag out and its perfect for the job i want it for, not everyones cup of tea but the ferret was comfortable and dry and thats good enough for me. As for the ferrets safety im quite happy, lets put it into perspective we put the ferret into a hole in the ground where there could be literally anything, then we dig right on top of its head in pursuit of its catch. The ferrets life is one of risk so the bag is the least of my worries. A great product from rabbit feaver that is going to work well for me in the future in certain situations. By all means not a total replacement for a carrying box but its going to have its place for me and others im sure

@Be Jaysus foxes, cats, adders. If you fall on your carry box hard enough to kill a ferret your going to be in alot of pain. I cant ever remember falling over in all the years I have been ferreting. Face it, the chances are very slim.

@Be Jaysus we bolted 2 rabbits from One Warren on this particular day before bolting a big stoat. I tend to just get out and try things rather than worry about a worst case scenario all the time, like i said not a total replacement for a ferret box but good for me in certain situations where i want to travel very light and fast like when bolting to the dogs on the fell.

Used this bag a couple of times and now noticed the ferrets are after scraping their way through the fabric part of the zip. A bit soft for only using twice. If could improve on that part of the bag would be a great bag as part of your kit.

Did you try getting the ferret used to it first. I know some ferrets dont stop scratching.

@@reynoldsoutdoors3055 I've put them in every day for 2 months while cleaning out the hutch and they always scratch mate. Was thinkin of stitching sum plastic under the zip .

Only problem with a bag. If u slip and fall you could crush the ferret. I used to use an old pillow case stuffed in my jacket til i nearly crushed it climbing a fence.

Another fine reynolds production asousility quality the dogs working realy well some nice camera work but all in all 100% total dedication form you and ur friend for posting the video

Back in the day,...EVERYONE used a Hessian sack for carrying the ferrets... I went upmarket in the late 60's, and purchased a purpose-made canvas bag from S.Young and Sons... I never saw anyone using a carrying box until I went legal and ful-time on the rabbits; then we were using up to ten ferrets a day on big jobs, so a sack would not have been practical.. Nothing much new in the rabbiting game....
