I stumbled upon a sander that looked like the Festool ETS EC 150 a lot, kind of like a counterfeit. So I bought it but I also bought the Festool one to compare them and see what this random orbital sander was all about.

Hi 👋, I have had cheep Chinese tools over years, mainly because I could not afford top quality tools, but over the years I have saved up for better quality, I am now in my 70s retired and I still have most of my tools still, Maffel Festool Makita , and maintenance is a must on all machines. Even on these tools, I still think one is better than the other, depending on what you are using it for , Maffel makes the best router, Festool best Sanders. Makita drivers, Stay safe, Phil from the moulin France.

I have the Mafell jigsaw and the KSS 80 cross cut saw . Both are the best you can buy. But have you ever tried any of the Festool routers Phil? The two smaller ones are an absolute joy to use one handed and the 2200 with all the extra bases and the 95% dust collection is just so innovative, smooth and powerful. I get excited when I take it out of its sustainer 😂.

Hi 👋, I hope you are all keeping safe and well, I have all 2 Festool routes, 110 2200 . Both are excellent routers, I started working for my self back in 1978, I brought a ELU 98 1/2 Collette , but found it on some jobs to big so I brought some other make that a 1/4 collett but that stopped working after a year or so, then I brought a Makita 1/4 that seems to be fine, I then needed a second large router that didn’t last longer, so I brought a ELu MOF 177 E , I did have 2 of these up until the 99 both of which I think that I must of replaced the bearings low’s of times, then in the 2003/5 I brought my first festool 1/2 , then the OF110 , however the OF2200 did have to go back once. I have had lots of different jigsaw over the years, but I finally brought a MAFELL Jigsaw in 2015/6 this is the best jigsaw ever, I have Festool larger tracksaw 70m it is okay but lacks power, I have used the Maffel on a site that belong to someone else, this far superior machine, most of my work was in my workshop so I didn’t need a larger track saw as I have a 10Hp saw bench with sliding table, I have a fell other Maffell tools Dowelling, Door Lock Mortiser, Chain Mortiser , from around 2008/9 I was involved in a lot of barn conversations were I was making a lot of doors and windows, most of the doors were 75m or sometimes thicker, with multipoint euro locks fitted, one job had 7 doors so the door lock Mortiser made short work of fitting them, and I have a large 10H spindle moulder with sliding table, so the grove for the lock to sit in easy work , I also have Wadkin EKA tenoning machine, with Windows sets and Door sets tooling, Leitz tooling and some Whitehill , I am retired but still have a lot of tools. I am hoping to finish my windows and doors in my property in France later this year, My work came to abrupt end in 2019 , as I had found out my ex female partner was having affair with some one, and she had scamming me over the years as I had been putting a lot of money in 2 projects one in the Uk and France. I hope this gives you some insight into what I have been doing, and tools and machines, if you need help with any further information don’t hesitate to send me a message. Phil from the moulin France

Over the last 6-8 years I've slowly accumulated all three Festool Rotex sanders, a Domino, and their OF 1400 router. I've owned a number of sanders and routers before, but I finally feel like I've bought my last ones. The Festool ones are built to last and a joy to use.

I have had Ridgid, Milwaukee, and Craftsmsn sanders in the past. All caused numbness in my hand after use. And those that had dust extraction were a joke. I bought a Festool ETS/125 and it is a joy to use. No numbness in my hand and no sanding dust all over. I own a Festool track saw, dust extractor, jig saw, and Domino 500. Not a single regret. They bring joy to me when I use them. My next Festool is like a Rotex sander. I have held off buying a Festool router, I own 4 other routers. So maybe I’ll hold off getting the OF1010 for another year. 😀

I splashed out on a Mirka DEROS convinced I’d have buyers regret but am so glad I did, makes sanding so much more bearable. So yes I agree, ditch the cheap counterfeit crap and buy a trustworthy brand, as high quality as you can afford to get, or are willing to spend. Another good video Pierre 👍

I'm no stranger to Festool sanders and extractors, so I will always check out a clone sander vid that pops up in my feed. I've seen more Mirka styled sanders than Festool styled sanders though. The noticeable loss in dust extraction is a deal breaker. Did the vac just need to be ran a little higher than the EC? You never pointed it out in the video I don't think, but the Festool knockoff cord came off like the Festool? Or just mimics the connector look with a fixed cord? 😅 Were the pads interchangeable? If I can't easily source pads for a sander, then it's another deal breaker. Pads are a consumable and they wear out. Especially in helpers hands lol. Without easily sourced replacements the Chinese sander is dead in the water. Speaking of pad wear, I'm sure someone's mentioned it, but both those sanders needed a protection pad with that net paper. You'll melt the hook and loop, and cause premature pad replacement.

Festool tools are designed with serviceability in mind as well. I've repaired a couple I've gotten used and abused. They usually work fine afterward and are pretty straightforward to service. Well... as straightforward as tools that high-tech can be. We're not talking about an '85 craftsman corded drill here lol.

Excellent video. I couldn’t agree more. True, most of the budget or mid range tools are manufactured, or assembled in China. Like most of us, I own a number of tools from Mikita, Hitachi alongside cheaper brands, and many of them are made in China. I even own a Nikon camera that is also made in China. Oddly enough, one of my Bosch tools - a 110v drill - is made in Russia. None, however, are knock offs, and all have performed flawlessly for years or decades. I do own some of the red stuff from Banggood, rulers, squares and the like. These are, obviously copies of American products, but, as you state, they are just bits of machined aluminium. Thanks for sharing.

It has all the fancy things, like at 7:20 there is an adjustable counter weight for reducing the vibrations. If I'm not mistaken, that sander must have vibrated quite a bit more than the Festool? At least it sounded like it during the sound test. I would guess adjusting and fine-tuning that weight's position at the factory is one step the no-name brand will skip to reduce the manufacturing cost. Vibrating sander does still sand, so it may pass quality control for no-name brand.

I’m sitting on the fence with this one. I have learnt my lesson on you get what you pay for. So would not buy the cheap one. But I just cannot see the justification in spending that much on a Festool. When it’s market competitors like Mirka or Bosch or even Sealey (budget) are far better priced.

It is a hefty price. I think Mirka is comparable in quality, but I dont think the Sealey quite compares - I have a similar sander to that one and the Festool one seems to be a bit better in all areas. Thanks for watching man!

Choice is choice. If they are not using the name of Festool, then good on them I say. I think they are trying to ride off the name in terms of price though. That tool looks like it should be sold for $50 not $300.

The Chinese companies don't care about building a customer base, they just want to get money as fast as they can. If sales of this sander slow down, they'll just change the color of the button and the name and keep going.

To be fair, you only sanded 5*5cm square blocks twice... wasnt that extensive comparison. Those kind of sanders are made for larger surfaces and true comparison comes from longer use. Vibration, motor heating, ergonomics, stickypad lifespan/grip, sandpaper wear ( yes thats a thing due different kind of pad movements and heating if not papercooling happening like festool multijetstream pads have). All these are also big factors when comparing. But i've personally used mirka and festool sanders over 10 years now and they are best out there. Cant see how chinese copys could be better...

Festool makes a good product but way overpriced. Of course the Chinese version is not going to have the same things inside and it's not going to last as long but at the end of the day it's a sander who cares. I'm not dropping $300 on a sander let alone$700 my bosch is fine.

Chinese made anything has to come with an extended warranty by the big box store or I will not even consider buying it. I prefer to buy USA made and will gladly pay a premium for it. I'll buy from any county that takes pride in their work. China just doesn't make nice things. Even huge brands made there makes me look for made elsewhere for similar items.

Please someone tell me why they would pay sevenHUNDRED DOLLARS for a random orbital sander. First person to say something like "but i use it all day" or "you just don't understand quality" loses the game. 700 dollars does not explain ergonomics, durability, or construction quality. Its a small motor that spins a freaking disc. 700 dollars? Been working with my hands my entire life i and i do not understand why a single person would fall for Festools marketing.

It’s not just Festool. They just happen to be the most consumer facing pro brand. All the pro sanders cost as much or more, brands you may or may not have ever heard of (Mirka, SurfPrep, Ekasand, 3M). But yes, I want to be able to feel my hand after a full day, and no I don’t want to be required to wear a mask all day. In terms of price in dollars and in US, they are around $550. Still expensive, yes. All the pro sanders deliver on those where my cheap ones don’t. I don’t like the price but begrudgingly pay it for the extra comfort and better dust extraction . The argument is valid. Anything you do all day every day that is “work” you will happily pay money to make more comfortable, quicker, etc. It’s like the mechanic that has specialized ridiculously expensive tools I would never pay for to do the same job on my car they do in their work. I’ll gladly give up time or comfort to save that money. I only do it occasionally. Not worth it to me, definitely worth it to them. At the pro level it’s a business decision. At the hobby/enthusiast it’s a discretionary decision. I don’t understand someone paying $50k for a bass boat they take out 5 times a year when I can get out there in my square stern canoe and a small motor for next to nothing. It’s their money and their enjoyment.
