I wanted to make a series of videos to better explain the Festool LR32 system and how it works. This is the first video to simply explaining a little bit about the LR32. In the up coming videos I will go more into the LR32 and how it works with the European frameless 32mm cabinet building method. So make sure to subscribe for more fun with the LR32 system. It's a fantastic accessory to help speed up your production and to simplify door and drawer installation. Thanks for watching. Eric

I was fortunate enough for Festool to provide me the LR32 system for the purpose of the videos. I'm sure any Festool dealers can help you with the purchase of the system. Every Festool dealer I have purchased from has been top rate guys with great service. Thanks for watching! Eric

Fantastic LR32 videos, easy to watch, you are great in front of a camera. Really appreciated all the tips, would never have figured them out on my own. Also, especially liked the secret information in the last one. Watched all of them, one after another, then ordered the router, vacuum, and LR32 system. Thanks.

Eric, I recently picked up an LR32 systematic and then went looking for a couple of videos on how to. I wanted to thank you as your videos by far the best. You explain the process very well. And after watching was able to but a couple of cabinets together with few issues. Thanks. Keep the videos coming. Take care.

Super, All the rails can be joined together with the rail connectors. It's recommended to use 2 rail connectors. So you could connect a LR 32 rail with any of the other rails. I have the FS 2424/2-LR 32 rail as well. I use it for cross cuts on a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood. My opinion is, that it's a pain in the butt to use a regular rail with a LR32 rail for drilling a long row of holes. I've tried it for on project, and it drove me nuts, so I bought the 95" LR32 rail. Just bought the LR32 - have a bunch of cabinets to build and was putting off the purchase, but the upcoming price increase kind of pushed me into it - your videos, found on FOG, REALLY helped with the decision - thanks so much!

The "upcoming price increase" has become an annual tradition with Festool. I strongly suspect it's just a scheme to increase sales each year without having a price reduction "sale." The annual boost in the cost without any product improvement (or in some cases, an actual decline, such as the $70 surcharge for changing the imperial scale back to metric on the TS55) soured me on new Festool purchases. I already have, use, and enjoy a lot of their tools, but I have stopped buying anything new in Festool line. As their patents have expired, other companies have made quite respectable versions (or sometimes even better) of many of their products at 1/2, or less, of the cost of the Festool version. If I'm going to be charged a premium price for a product, it had better be a really premium performer. Hello, Mafell.

Thanks for the video ... I know you mentioned it, but to make sure nobody missed it like I did the first time, it would be helpful if you add some text to remind people to calibrate the parallel stop rods before clamping down the rail...

Your videos gave me a reason to purchase almost an entire Festool system including the LR32. since their are so many posts, I was hoping you could share all the cut dimensions to these upper cabinets again. This will be my first build using the metric system. I have 704mm and then........:) Thanks!
@thepoplarshop
@thepoplarshop 8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Meyer I don't have the dimensions for the upper cabinets. Sorry man. A while back I did some rearranging of my shop and got rid of the upper cabinets. And dumped the base cabinets down into my basement. But if my memory is correct. The depth of the upper cabs where 381mm or 15", which is a standard upper cab depth, I think? LOL! As for the height, man you can make them any height that fits your needs. If you're using the LR32 system I would suggest making the height of the side panels increments of 32mm. So for this video, if the height of my upper was 704mm, it's divisible by 32 and is around 28". And for the width, again man, make them to fit your needs. But I think the upper in the video was 457mm, 18" wide. Sorry I can't be much help to you bro. Take care, Eric

+Daniel Meyer Yeah, new shop tour video is coming up. I'm building a dedicated 26' X 26' shop in my backyard. I insulated it this weekend and will start the drywall work next weekend, if I can. I've been building my new shop for a few month now. Getting a little done on the weekends.

Excellent video quality. Sadly, the sound has a decided "echo" that takes away from a good instruction KZfaq aid. I do wish that all would use a lavaliere mic. It does wonders for sound. For whatever it's worth.

I took a week long Festool sponsered class that included the LR32 system. I have a ton of Festool stuff, but I really couldn't justify this system. Perhaps its good if you're doing the exact same thing all the time, but its not really for the weekend woodworker. We only spent a few hours with LR32, but it wasn't as intuitive for me as all the other Festool equipment I use. I'm sure if I made cabinets for a living, and had a small operation, this would be a great system. However, if you're doing a serious amount of cabinet building, you need a line borer, not the LR32. I guess this is for the guy that builds a small amount of cabinets per year. Also, the router plate is temperamental. The little aluminum holes begin to get worn down and become inaccurate over time. If you want to have a cabinet making shop, buy a line borer. Yeah, they are expensive, even compared to Festool, but the LR32 system is simply too complicated for anyone that just makes the occassional cabinet and someone that makes a living making cabinets really needs a system where they can just place the sides in, pull the lever and bore every hole at the same time with more repeatable accuracy. The speed and accuracy difference between a line borer and the LR32 is like the difference in speed and accuracy with ripping wood with a handsaw or with a cabinet saw. To be honest, I'm not sure what niche the LR32 is filling. That Rockler jig will work for most people, or better yet, use Woodpecker's system. Everything else Festool I own, well worth the money. I also feel the same with the CMS router table. It's limited in use (but love the slider) and there are finer router tables for the same amount of money and are much more accurate, better dust collection and more versatile.

I recently bought the LR32 system and I find a spindle line boring machine to be far quicker and much easier to use on long gables, unfortunately I can't afford a spindle line boring machine at the moment so I'm in the middle of designing a bench that can secure the work piece and the guide rail securely and quickly. Would you have any tips on what would be the best solution? I was thinking of building a portable bench roughly 8 ft long and buying the MFT profile to attach the rail at either end.

How easy is to use FS 1400/2-LR 32 guide rail on long peaces as i don't want to invest in FS 2424/2-LR 32. 2424 would only serve as a shelf hole cutter. It is too short for cutting 8ft sheets with circular saw

I have a question im going to make cabinets wich are 2000 mm high for driling the shelves i use my festool lr32 set i own a fs1400 rail wich is only 1400 not 2000 mm is it possible to start driling holes from the top and than move the rail for driling the bottem holes ?
@thepoplarshop
@thepoplarshop 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's possible. But you need to be careful and stay mindful of what's going on. Figure out a way to clamp the end of the rail that does not overlap the work piece will be important so that the rail does not move on you. If you have another rail (standard rail) and two rail connectors you can connect the rails so you have a place to clamp the work piece to the rail. I've done this, but it is a PITA because you will be connecting and disconnecting the rails a lot. But if this is the only way you have to tackle the job you can make it work. If you do this, then try to drill out all the holes for the front of the cabinets before you drill the back set of holes. This way you won't have to do a lot of fumbling around with the two rails. But if you only have the one rail, just figure a way to clamp the end of the rail that doesn't overlap the work piece. That's the main thing. Good luck! Take care, Eric

Sorry, I just noticed your cabinets will be 2000mm high. That's not an increment of 32mm……so I'm not sure how well this will work for you. If you're cabinet sides were in 32mm increments, then you wouldn't have a problem just moving the rail down to the bottom of the work piece. But since your cabinets are not increments of 32mm…..when you move the rail down…the holes will be off and you'll be mad at me! LOL So maybe modify you cabinet height ? Eric

Eric if you only had the 1400 track that comes with the ts55 what Holy Rail size would you buy for the LR32? I could use a longer rail for the ts55 but is the 2424 too long and presumably awkward for the LR32? Or should I buy the 1400 Holy Rail and connect it to my ts55 rail? Please help haha too many choices.

Steven Brown Hey Steven. Let me try to help. It's always tough giving someone advise on what to buy. Since it's not my money. LOL The 2424 LR32 rail would be awkward for standard base and wall cabinets. I use it for pantry cabinets, that's it. So having a 95" rail for drilling the holes for a 32" base cabinet would drive me crazy. Way to much rail for the task. I tried connecting the 55" rail with the LR32 55" rail for drilling a long row of holes for a big cabinet. IT SUCKED ! So I put the project on hold and ordered the 95" LR32 rail. So if you know you'll be making a lot of large cabinets that would require the longer LR32 rail, then go with that. But if you know that the majority of your work will be under at least 50" (leaving room for the end stops) then the 55" LR32 will work great for you. I own a lot of rails. The 118", 55" and the LR32 55" are my most used rails. All the others are just nice to have available. IF you have not purchased the TS55 yet, then ask your dealer if they will swap the rail that comes with the TS55 with the LR32 rail. A lot of dealers will swap them for you. Not sure if their is a price difference or not. If you haven't bought the TS55 yet then adding the 55" LR32 rail to the order will give you the best of both worlds. The ability to make long cuts and drilling a long row of holes when the rails are connected. Hope this helps. Eric

MrBigerock Awesome thank you kindly. I have the TS55 but didn't know about swapping the rails at the time. The last thing I'd ask you can you break down the 48" side of sheet goods with the parallel guides and the 55" rail or is it too short? I have the set and want to use them but only have the one rail (1400mm). Eventually I assume I'll buy all the rails you mentioned. Again thanks for your response and videos!!! Steve

Steven Brown Steven the Festool parallel guides take up almost 4" at the beginning and end of the rails. So using the Festool PG's with the 55" rail will not work for you. You need to make sure that the base of the TS is completely supported at the beginning of the cuts. The PG won't allow for the saw to be completely supported at the beginning of this cut. For cross cutting the 48" width of sheet goods with the Festool PG I use the 75" rail. Now you could always use an aftermarket parallel guide system with the Festool rails. I have not used them but I've heard great things about them. Plus they cost a hell of a lot less then the Festool PG's. They are made by Seneca Woodworking, the same guys that make the Domiplate that lives on my Domino. Check them out. I have no affiliation with them, but they make fantastic products. www.senecawoodworking.com/products/parallel-guide-system-for-incra-t-track-plus If I didn't have the Festool parallel guides and all the rails already. I would buy the Seneca system. Take care! Eric

While I don't know of anyone who doubts the quality of Festool products the LR32 system is obscenely overpriced for what it will do. The cased portion of the system plus the rail (long version) plus the router will run you, with tax, over $1400.00. I have a friend who has the Schmitt 32 mini system which he purchased on Ebay for $350.00 and a DeWalt DW 621 plunge router purchased from Amazon for $250.00 for a total of $600.00 plus tax. I've owned a DeWalt router for over 12 years and have only had to replace the brushes twice. Do yourselves a favor and check out the Schmitt 32 mini.

+fishman211 Bosch has a system that is somewhat similar to the LR32 system. It's not readily available in the USA but searching on Amazon UK or UK eBay you'll find a dealer that will ship the Bosch system to the states. I've heard good things about the Bosch system. You are correct, the price of the LR32 system is shocking if you don't own a Festool router. Take care, Eric
