A stable workbench is critical to most, if not all, cutting operations and assembly work. The inability to move the workbench from the workshop to the jobsite can be limiting. The MFT/3 multifunction table system is a versatile, flexible, and economical solution that can easily be carried to the jobsite or kept in a workshop.
In this video, learn how to setup and calibrate your new Festool MFT/3 portable workbench. We also cover many of the typical uses for the MFT/3 for cutting, clamping and other tasks.

I have 2 of these and the MFt3 plus the Apex table. They are work together amazing. Festool is worth every penny. Well... when I bought these a few years ago I thought the price was crazy at $450 but I maned up and made my purchases. Now I want one more really bad, but at $605 I feel that is just WAY to much for work bench. Not sure if I'll pop for one or make my own at this point. But I do love these tables and use them weekly in my shop.

Even though the table top is sacrificial, it makes me squirm to see it cut purposely. At some point in time, it might have so many 2mm cuts in it that it could become NON supportive at certain points on its surface. Has this ever happened and what is the cure? I have a TS 75 and it is so beyond my skill level that it was definite want and not a need. Still, when was the last time you regretted owning the best?

Its absolutely amazing what can be done with the bench but it's not portable. My opionon of portable for site work is something you can grab inside quickly when it starts raining and this isn't that, for shop work or areas where its sunny all year round its glorious

How accurate should the MFT table be? For instance the Festool MFT and such. Reason i ask is i purchased jig to make the grid and was not happy with the accuracy. I could not get past a 6x16 hole layout with out seeing runoff due to the guides locking in the jig had some slop. I might get it to be better if i add around the template guide to tighten the tollerances. But when i contact the manufacture they claim that tables are never accurate its the fence system that makes the accuracy and i was expecting too much even thought there jig was at a premium price off $199. Purchased this one due to UJK was out of stock but now i have one but have not used it yet. This was the response when i gave them the numbers that either the jig was off or the supplied Template guide was off. Hello Cliff. There is a big misconception with MFT tables and tops. The accuracy of a Festool MFT table comes from the actual rails that are part of the table itself. All of the Festool attachments are attached and referenced off of the rails. Not the table. If you think about all the “connections” from the router to the actual hole there are a lot of variables at play Router bit. Bushing to router. Bushing to template. Indexing pin to template. Indexing pin to hole. Locating pins to the template. Locating pins to the workpiece. potential runout in the router collet There has to be sufficient clearance between each of those for them to work. As you add holes, that “stackup” error will grow. The only way to avoid that would be to key off of the same location for each hole. Essentially what a CNC does. You want to make sure that there is no movement in the template when drilling the first holes. The template must be firmly clampled in place. The Festool MFT table is a clamping/work table. Without the additional fence system, it cannot be used to make accurate cuts. Once you install the Fence system, you must calibrate the track to the fence. At no time are the holes a part of that calibration as the holes are only used for clamps and stop etc. Even if done on a CNC, with the movements and wear in MDF/wood, even the Festool table is not very accurate. Check the Festool marketing data and you will not find anything about using the holes to make cuts, only for work holding. The accuracy comes from the MFT table rails.

***** At 08:20 the mark was made and the rail placed on it. That's why I wondered about the final cut. When I saw it again after your response I see they moved the rail so it's not at the mark. So it seems to confirm your claim of multiple takes.

At 5:56 you're setting cutting depth to 7mm on the upper scale. I assumed that this scale takes the guide rail into consideration, so that it will actually cut 7mm into the table, not 2mm as intended? Shouldn't the depth be set to 2mm on this scale (or 7mm on the lower reading)?
@herrklein
@herrklein 10 жыл бұрын
***** Thank you for your answer. I'm afraid this is not correct. I just purchased an MFT and a TS 55 REBQ, and I watched this video before triming the guide rail. I did use the setting in this video of 7mm on the "depth with guide rail" setting, but fortunately, I added a piece of scrap material instead of making the first cut into the table. I can confirm that the setting in the video will cut 7mm into the table and ruin the MFT where you should never cut more than maximum 5mm. You can actually see at the start of the cut that it is far too deep. The correct setting for cutting directly into the table with only the rail is 2mm on "depth with guide rail" and 7mm on "depth without guide rail". It would be advisable to make a note of this in the video.
@MREJ63
@MREJ63 7 жыл бұрын
I agree with Lasse. Unfortunately I cut as indicated in the video and it cut 7 mm into the table instead of 2 :( When I sat down and thought about it, I realised that the video should have shown the FS scale set to 2 mm not 7mm as it did. If they had used the non-FS scale 7mm would have been correct. If you look at the blade depth when they start the cut at 6.00 you can see they make the mistake described as you can see its way deeper than 2mm. Additionally, I believe you can even see this erroneous cut at 10:57, but they have turned the table upside down by then. It is disappointing that this was pointed out 2 years ago and the video remains up and unchanged. I wonder how many other people have followed this official Festool video and compromised their table like me, but without even noticing? Please do something about this Festool to help others in the future as it leaves a very bad taste in the mouth and not a good way to start off with my new MFT.

It's not rocket science to set the depth of cut up, I use the same technique as festool advise, put your saw in the rail drop it down until its hitting the table and add a couple of clicks. It's basic set up.

Bought a MFT/3 yesterday after years of wanting one. Very disappointed in how out of square it was out of the box. I'm working out of town and didn't have a good square with me. Setting this up by way of trial and error (making a cut, then flipping piece over, make adjustment, repeat, over and over) was very time consuming. Later in the day I had to slide the fence back to allow for a wider cut and had to repeat the whole process. This morning it was out of whack again. After stopping work to go back to the tool store and dropping another $100 for a woodpecker 1281 it was super simple and quick to set up, but why in the F do I need an additional tool to make this work?!? When I forked out $688 for a precision table I assumed it would include what was needed to make this work correctly. Why can't they include a simple square, or a 12" square chunk of wood, or something similar to make this work properly. Between the time I wasted yesterday and the time spent traveling to purchase needed tool today I'm quite annoyed. On a side note, for some reason my fence does not line up with the holes worth a hoot. Table/saw is currently cutting perfectly square, but hole closest to the guide rail has about .5 mm between fence and hole, the hole farthest to the left is about 3 mm from the fence, and the guide rail brackets are tight against stoppers. Any help in solving this would be appreciated.

+rusty cartman Just letting you know that we made a layout Square which is ideal for squaring Festool MFT table. It is a perfect replacement for the hard to find, expensive Woodpeckers square ($200+), ours cost only $24.95. Our customers love it here in California. It is actually featured in Festool training center in Las Vegas. It is a CNC cut and we made the Square from rigid Phenolic European plywood for durability. The holes in the body are designed to accept clamps and also to make it easy to hang from the table. www.andersonplywood.com/square-for-festool-mft-square/

I don't think this is watched by Festool but the answer is no - the track has rubber grips and you are pushing against the fence. Of course you can always clamp and might need to do so depending on the specific situation.

Thanks for the video. I would have eventually figured out how to put this together but this was a lot easier to assemble with the video. The assembly document that come with the MFT is utterly useless. The diagrams are far too small to show enough detail. The written instructions are pitiful. Festool should just have a QR code that links to this video and just abandon the rest of the document! Thanks again.

The saw itself looks good, but that table looks pretty cheap. Pretty good demo guy but you can see it wobble every time he touches it. Also for a table that costs almost 700 dollars they should have a feature that lets you lock the saw in place and rip like a table saw.

Note to self. This table does not come with any of the clamping elements. I have a Kapex so don’t need a table to cut up while making precision cuts on small boards. Ordered this MFT for the clamping, but it only arrived with a bunch of tracksaw accessories I WILL NEVER USE. Should be made clear in this video. Buyer’s remorse. I should have just got a table with clamping accessories, not this overpriced substitute for a miter saw.

Believe it or not I don't have a table saw. it seems like for the space it would take up I would be better off with a mft , track saw and one of your vac systems. a lot more capability it seems then a dangerous table saw. Am I wrong in thinking this would replace a table saw?
