Correction:
At the first part, first bar, at the 4th beat please always play an E with the left hands pinkie for one beat instead of the C I played in the video, I missed this originial voicing when I did the tutorial, sorry, so to be really accurate and like the original please amend the left hands playing here. Thx.
Additional Info regarding your fingering:
In the New York live recording and the Making Of John plays the alternating rhythm pattern between the single C bass tone and chord tones E,G just with the right hand and with the left hand a one finger base or an octave bass, but it is is easier and better to learn it the way I show it in my video.
But it's up to you of course.
And also please note:
John actually does not play the D with the right hands little finger during the little lick explained at 3:48.
Instead he plays the G with his left hands little finger.
D is a harmonic overtone of G that is why we hear a D allthough not played. I added the D especially for electric pianos wher the overtones of the G do not ring the D strings. At the end of the road it is your choice to play the D or not . If not, just play a G /C Base in the left hand instead of a C/C octave. Thanks to Lander Vervaet and John Lennon Fanatic for your input!
Important:
Remember that people love to sing this song, they just do not recall the lyrics by memory.
Print out the lyrics 5 or 10 times and bring them to the next invitation/party and play the song on the piano.
People will love to sing along. It is a great experience.
Enjoy playing it it like the original!
All The Bes!

Don't forget it's all thanks to you. And it's not a "little bit" easier..with your help, pianoplayers will explode in numbers in no time, piano could be the no. 1 instrument over the whole KZfaq because of your videos, whole world..don't know how you do it, but you send out such..SUCH an amazing energy..aura, I don't know.. :D It just grabs and drags us into it, I'm sure most wanting to learn feels something like that too. Much more alive than most..hard to explain.. Even from a recording, it's hypnotic somehow. Not talking about a crush here haha! =D No worries, you can tell from most comments, people are really moved. Some part of you must know some of this, all I know it's crazy-rare. :D Just terrific!

I am close to 70 yo, been playing guitar for many years by ear, at an amateur level at best with these tiny and short fingers, and always wanted to play this piece on the piano (midi keyboard). With perseverance and your EXCELLENT teaching, I am seeing the light in the future, even my wife is surprised. You are an amazing and dedicated teacher, this is an incredible tutorial, closest to the original song, nothing on the internet comes close to you. I am so happy to have found this video. You are simply the best. Thank you very very much for your generosity.

@@legendaryTMNICO Yes and No, I play by ear, so to me both are hard because of my short fingers, so I have to adapt , they are very different instruments, but I can't barely play guitar anymore cause one of my left fingers is mostly out of service, so now, I spend my time on my newly acquired Korg SV2. The goal is to have fun, that's all that count really. Do you play any instruments? TTFN.

So is “Let it Be.” And “Hey Jude.” These thoughtful videos, compiled by watching John and Paul play the actual pieces, are pure joy to play. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Kindness comes through in his approach and playing. Would be eternally grateful for more - I would stand in line for hours if necessary (but it’s KZfaq so I don’t have to). Thanks again.

I have dabble with the piano for all my life but other than a one finger song, never really learned to play. I am now 55 and I never learned how to read sheet music but could sometimes figure out a simple melody on my own or if I copied and practiced what someone showed me. On October 31st of this year I made a promise to myself to finally learn how to play a whole song. Something more than Twinkle, twinkle little star. This video was perfect. less than one month later and I can play this song. I practice about an hour a day, sometimes more on the weekend and each day I got better. By the second week I wasn't even watching the video anymore. I knew what to do I just had to practice doing it. Great tutorial. Thank you very much.

If he kept on posting, taking on a couple of suggestions as he grew, I would have no doubt he would become the most popular self learning piano channel on youtube. For readers, the pdf came in handy. Just work at it, and you can get this one under your fingers. But, remember: don't use the sheet music, if you can avoid it. Use if for reference; that way, you will retain the song by memory instead of having to use the sheets. Thanks, Birdmann!

Bravo, sir! Thank you so much. Imagine is my first song on the keyboard. I've played drums as a teen, guitar for 36 years, and just picked up a bass a year ago. I was fat-fingering the guitar and muting strings unintentionally. I do NOT have guitarists' hands! The keyboard seems a bit easier. I'm enjoying myself immensely. It's only been about a month. I can almost play this song--almost. Your tutorial is bookmarked. Thanks again.

It’s is a good tutorial, and the way of playing looks different (and better) than that found in scores online. The later parts are done more quickly, but downloading the score does help. Would be good to have the lyrics with the score, rather than separate though.

This is a great tutorial! I've had a completely different way of playing this for years, but always wondered why the right hand of the main motif was so awkward to voice, including the rising figure on A/Bflat/B, now I know - I also never noticed that extra D! Your version makes far more sense from a players point of view, so many thanks - it also offers great insight into Lennon's playing style, as the style of Imagine is similar to that in I Am The Walrus and numerous other Beatles songs on which John plays.

First of all: I wish you , your youngest son and your family all the best!!!! It is an honor to me that my tutorial helped you to give your son a perfect start into music in this life. But let us not forget to thank John Lennon who composed this wonderful piece of music. I played a lot of Guitar and piano to my son and my daughter when they sere very young and both love to play music (piano/drums/guitar). Hopefully your son will have fun doing music too. Kind Regards, Birdmann

Sir you are an amazing teacher! I play by ear, and a beginner, and I’m old as well….it’s interesting how many techniques there are to learn, most I just don’t understand but yours is very step by step and easy for me to follow. Thank you for being so patient cause I know it takes a lot of time to make these videos.

I played it the way almost everyone else was teaching and it sounded good. Then I played it your way and for the first time in my life I felt like a pianist. I've only been playing for 3 weeks. I want to donate to you but I don't use paypal. Can I donate with another method?

thx Joseph, I like your comment. Regarding a donation: You can use a friends paypal account or alternatively: just give a small donation to a talented street musician in our town, if you like her/his music, just to give something back for what you have received. Everything comes around.
