My father's family emigrated from the area near Maniago following WWI. I grew up around these hard working craftsmen. Maniago pulled itself out of crushing poverty after WWII by developing its knife and tool industry. So making high quality cutlery for the world is a necessity and point of pride for Maniago. I've owned and used a T5 for 4 years. I love the knife and it has endured a lot of hard use in the Wyoming mountains during frequent hunting, hiking and camping trips. The handle is very comfortable even for guys with very large hands. The blade holds up well and can readily be resharpened. The quality of the knife is, as you've noted, is outstanding. Hopefully, LS will offer the blade in CPM 3 V at some point in the near future. I believe that they've produced the M5 in 3V for the European market already. Thanks again for this review. Keep producing outdoor content, Aaron. It's a welcome break from the doom and gloom of this crazy world.

The bigger Lionsteel M7 (same Molletta design), in Sleipner steel is a wonderful knife too. This Niolox steel is even better, and the only defect they share they are a bit difficult to resharpen. Anyway Lionsteel, Extrema Ratio, Fox, etc. are the pride of the fine italian outdoor cutlery.

Hey Aaron, I have the Lionsteel T5 and believe it's almost perfect for an extremely capable fixed blade. Hunting, camping, and tactical bushcraft do everything knife. Great for field dressing game with the best handle ever designed for wet grip tasks. I love the sheath, but would 100 percent agree that a kydex sheath would be extremely beneficial. The M4 and M5 models are also great choices. I put a 17-degree mirror polished edge on this beast, and it's amazingly sharp. Mine has some battle scars already, at 72, I appreciate a good working tool, and this is one of my favorite tools. I got mine for $139 2 years ago. This knife was my choice over an Essee 6, which is still the same quality as the T5. Nilox is impressive and functional for all scenarios, but the handle is extremely comfortable. In your first review of this knife, you were impressed, and I was also. Reviews of the T5 are mostly positive, but the blade steel isn't a super steel. It will hold an edge just fine and has great value. Great video, Aaron, be safe, and have a blessed Christmas!

Steel iis the last thing you should care for in a knife.Heat treatment, proper grinds, even handle and sheath, are all more important, than steel type. If you for reason, want a knife that has it all, then stay away from Lionsteel and check some higher level knives, like the TRC Mille Cuori or LT Wright Forester, which is only a step down and not lower, like the T5 Lionsteel is.... @@alexbergmann2817

I have a T5 with the black coated blade. I hunt bunnys, birds, and possums here in New Zealand. I've used it weekly for over a year now. A bit big for serious craftmen-like skinning jobs, but disemboweling bunnys to feel the eels in the creeks, slitting possum throats, I even decapitated a huge turkey I shot (sorry if that makes you squeamish haha) this is a great knife. It holds a good edge, and the knife has enough blade steel to take on a few bone crunching tasks, like bunny legs etc. I dulled the knife completely once cutting up an armchair... it didn't like the foam rubber cushions much... Hunting with it is good, and ya just gotta touch it up with the honeing steel at home later and it's back in bisniss, but dulling it needed my diamond stones. I had to re-sew the sheath though: the joining rivet for the loop and molle bit popped getting caught whilst climbing a wire fence. Otherwise, no probz. I haven't cut any wood with it, come to think of it.

@@MrBlessed70 Gidday mate, I sharpen it with the Fallkniven diamond stones e.g. DC4. Works realy well; then I stropp it. After a good lot of cutting I usually hone it with a honeing rod. It takes a edge well, and it's not as hard to sharpen like M390, for example. Hope that helps. God Bless :)

I’m on the fence with this knife Aaron. I’ve found that every time I carry a 5 inch blade, something comes up that I wish I had a longer blade fixed blade knife on me (chopping or batoning). It is a sweet knife though and the handle looks great. I’ve been very happy with my RAT6 so far and will probably keep that as my choice for a fixed blade. Thanks for all of your continued hard work and excellent content you provide for us.

I really want the M7 but I already have a 9 1/2 inch Ferhman blade. A very nice knife indeed. I think I’m gonna go with the T5 mainly because I can legally carry up to a 5 1/2 inch long blade in Texas so this thing will be on me always. Not so much for protection because I have a Glock 26 on me for that. But you never know. It should perform great no matter what role it’s pressed into. Just so much better than a pocket knife.

My current favorite knife :) Regarding kydex sheaths, aftermarket options are available; I picked one up from Armatus Carry, and it's excellent. One thing: My knife couldn't strike a fire steel at all (it has a coated blade, maybe that's why), but it was surprisingly easy to adjust the spine for this purpose.

I've had a T5 for a few years now and couldn't disagree with anything you've said. Carried it lots in humid environments and never once have I oiled it. Zero rust whatsoever. I sharpened the factory 25° edge on the Wicked Edge and haven't had to sharpen it since. I will probably drop down to a 21° edge to improve it a little. The designer is a bushcrafter himself that probably beats on his designs more than 99% of owners do so there is a ton of experience behind the design features. Overall I'd rather have a ferro rod loop in the sheath instead of the molle attachment but otherwise its a damn near perfect overall package. I think dropping the edge angle a few degrees will improve finer tasks like feather sticking without compromising edge stability. I've hacked dead limbs off trees to make sticks for the dog on winter hikes, batoned firewood, chopped sticks and batoned through them to cut them to length without rolling, chipping or any noticeable edge damage. I think the steel choice is perfect.

One thing Lynn Thompson said which i look for now in blades is a smoothly curving blade from butt to tip, meaning no long flat spot in the edge geometry. This makes the entire edge one big slice. Very effective efficient cutting power. My Espada xl has that and is very deceptively a huge cutter, far above its size.

I have had the Lionstell t5 for a couple of years. It is a sturdy, sharp knife and very comfortable to use. However it is also rather heavy. I would like to see and alternative with wooden handle that should make it lighter and also warmer to touch wit bare hands.. Another thing that I like to see is a cnange of the belt loop of the sheet. It is almost impossible to attach a Casström dangler to get it hanging lower because it is to broad at the top of the sheet.. In Sweden at this time of the year I often use a down parka expedition style or an Anorak. They normally end at the end of your bum. To have the knife attached directly to your belt makes it difficult to get to without unzipping your jacket and and pull up you pullovers.

After your first review, I bought a T5 with the black micarta handle. Thank you 😊 Its a beast if a knife and does all the bushcraft tasks with no problem at all. The Niolox steel certainly holds an edge and doesn't rust. Plus the leather sheaf is a work of art. I also own their M5 which is a special edition in CPM3V, as well as the M4 with Bohler M390 steel. All are fantastic knives that do different things. The M4 throws the best sparks off its pommel base. But the best grip is the T5, and the knife feels indestructible. I would say its more of a heavy duty survival knife out of the 3. While the M5 is a little smaller, but still very capable. The M5 and M4 both have rounded spines so more difficult with your firestarter. The pommels are your friend 😉 I also have a Spyderco Urban CPM S90V, that is made by Lionsteel in Maniago, Italy. Which is a really neat little EDC. Lionsteel are a great brand and IMO gives you great quality and performance for a fair price. Keep the reviews coming, they are always appreciated 🙏 👍

@daviddickinson7219 6 ай бұрын
@gillessprecher4674 Hi, yes, I do have both knives. To choose between them is really hard. They are both excellent, and you'd be happy with either of them. If I could only have one for bushcraft, I think it would be the T5. The handle is so ergonomic and comfortable in the hand, and the blade is a bit of a beast but will easily handle all bushcraft tasks. It can also be used as a firestarter. The M5 I have is a special edition with CPM3V steel and is lovely. It's very tactile and a bit more subtle than the T5 being slightly shorter. The blade isn't as broad, and the knife is lighter. Again, it easily handles all bushcraft tasks. However, it has rounded edges on the top of the blade and pommel, so firestarting isn't easy. You would have to straighten a rounded edge to use a fire steel. Both knives have the same fantastic leather sheaf. Either knife would serve you well, but the T5 edges it for me, but only just. I hope that helps.

Sweet lookin knife!! Kinda k-bar meets bushcraft style. Right off the bat my only complaint is the small choil. I have to have a decent sized choil on my fixed blades. My favorite knife at the moment is my limited edition Treeman Pathfinder (multicam camo). Do it all knife! I do kinda wish it was S30V steel but its 01 tool steel. Which is still nice cause it can be sharpened with a rock but it could also rust if im not careful. Awesome video as always man!!⚔️🪓

I went this t5 over your other t6 recommendations. In the 6+ inch range I already have the Honey Badger, WTG Wolverine, Busses etc. In the 4+ inch range I have the BK16 and a few Bark River styles etc. Had a few GSO 5s etc but sold them ages ago. Was simply lacking in a good 5 inch tough lightweight blade. The leather sheath seems very compact and silent which I like. Everything else I have apart from machetes is Kydex but I do like quality leatherwork (quite a few of my daggers and hunters...super silent and compact)

Now I have it in hand.......I love the leather sheath. I really do. Its a keeper. Only other keeper leather sheath out too many other blades thats sheaths are kydex is the Busse Rodent 9, of whoms leather sheath is unsurpassed IMO (no.idea who.made it).

The knife and sheath are both very high quality. The sheath ride height was a bit tall for me so I added a ring and small drop loop.

Nice knife. Right away i noticed the one piece "taco" style handle the full tang slips into. Nice touch. I prefer longer blades. I EDC a cold steel trailmaster to give you an idea what i mean. But this knife albeit short, has a good grind on the blade and every inch of the blade is usable.

Gorgeous blade Aaron and another great video 🙌🏼 I hope you enjoy your holiday with friends and family as well ❤️. Unfortunately we won’t be having any kind of Christmas this year and it kills me because we usually go all out for Christmas but we have had no heat or hot water for the entire year and we have a very hard time finding apartments for 6 people. We have to be out by January 2nd, probably end up in a hotel, always next year right 🙏🏼

This is an awesome review of the T5. I've had the knife for years and it's awesome especially the handle ergonomics. T5 was my favorite knife until i came across the M311 from ANV knives. M311 handle ergos in my opinion is the closest thing we can get to a perfect design. Bought both knives based on your review. Watching your vids have become a bit painful to my bank account man 😂

In March 2023 I bought a sample of Spanish craftsmanship in the Joker Arrui 9 CO64 fixed blade hunting knife designed and meticulously crafted in Albacete, Spain. The knife features a sturdy & sharp Stainless Steel 420 blade with a hardness of 52 - 54 HRC. The leather sheath is the best leather sheath I’ve ever owned. And the knife & sheath only cost me $35. I know Lionsteel makes some decent knives but frankly I’m not interested right now. But thanks for the enthusiastic review, Aaron.

this comment is a little funky? I'm a huge joker knife person myself and have a few models. they all generally retail for about 80-120 on amazon currently. And this knife retails 145-170. this also comes in a little larger by the inch then anything joker offers often in stock. I can see these two brands being in a very similar category right now price wise with one targeting very traditional thick wood knives and the other being a combat bush hybrid. As a martial artist and bushcraft i appreciate both so much.

@@gideonstactical I only own two knives north of $200. The T6 just kept screaming at me since they announced it at blade show and it took forever for them to release it, which made the anticipation that much worse. When it finally dropped, I instinctively sprang on it. I’m glad I did. I love it!

I own that same knife. I've not taken off the micarta to see if it is in fact full tang. There are a few Lionsteel knives that are advertised as full tang, however when you take them down you will see that they are hollowed out tang which is very disapointing. I really like blade steel, wouldn't change it...especially given that it's purpose is an outdoor knife. It's one of my favorite knives.

Looks like an awesome knife. The "canooed" handle seems like a good thing as long as the tang fills a good 90% of the depth. There are 3 things I'd like to see differently and they are: 1st and foremost, get rid of the choil. 2nd, make the centerline go all the way to the point rather than jut above it, and 3rd, give it a coating.

Niolox steel for this application just works. It’s tough resistant to chipping and breaking rust proof and easy to sharpen. It’s also very wear resistant. It is a stainless steel but with added elements to create a survival type blade.

I'll check it out, it’s just crazing is over $100 more for less than an inch in blade length and this extra, thickness and weight makes it more of a survival knife to me, where the T5 is lighter and quick.
