The "few" rules we have for our children: 1) Do not lie. 2) Selflessly Love Your Family. 3) Take care of the things God gave us. 4) Respect your Mom and Dad. 5) Listen to & Obey Mom and Dad, and any grown-up that we put in authority over you. Most, if not all of the discipline we need to provide our young children fits under one of those rules.

So long as they apologize to the kids in a manner that is at least as public as their play was if they were in the wrong. I agree with your point

My house has 2 rules, inspired by other brothers in Christ’s house rules, which in turn were inspired by the “greatest commandment”. 1: do what you know is right 2: do everything out of love I’ve found that most often when the disastrous “he said” “she said” blame game begins, if I stop them and my children if they followed these 2 rules, they are very capable of answering and answering accurately. By the by, 9 times out of 10 there are 2 (or more) guilty parties and we can work that out instead of unilaterally admonishing the one with whom the grievance was brought to us about.

One fantastically covered topic!!! Talks through parenting and its implications. Are we slaves in society? Are we raising slaves or wise men and women able to think and reason and deduce logically the implications of their actions upon themselves and others. The why matters, let us raise our children to be Men And Women after the heart of God, in His likeness, willing, able, and firm (on the foundation of Christ) to fight against the evils of this present age, in His standards, for His glory.

Should I assume that when Doug's dad said, "Respect your mother," this is really a euphemism for "Respect adults, particularly your parents, and as your father I especially better see you respecting your mother because I love her and she loves you?" I guess, that's how I'm interpreting it and wonder if others are too. Appreciate feedback.

Very insightful! And the other form of instruction is modelling I suppose. Listening to this I couldn't help but think of how generalisations are abhorred in our culture today. You can't make deductions and common sense conclusions without being called judgemental or something else, we can't make connections. I guess we are being primed for slavery

Now what do you do when a parent is far too swift to punish made-up rules pretending to be in keeping with the principle (not consistant but typically an emotional response)?

Keep the lies of gods away from children! Religious children are less able to distinguish fantasy from reality... young children with a religious background are less able to distinguish between fantasy and reality compared with their secular counterparts.
