As an experiment, I wanted this to be more of a nod to the original Final Fantasy VII OST, so there's more synths than usual and it's quite fast for an orchestral track (178BPM).
In my opinion, that makes it sound a bit chaotic though and it's less in my style than normal. I'll probably make a more orchestrated and less synthetic version later on.

Game: Final Fantasy VII Remake

As an experiment, I wanted this Arrangement to be more of a nod to the original Final Fantasy VII OST, so there's more synths than usual and it's quite fast for an orchestral track (178BPM). In my opinion, that makes it sound a bit chaotic though and it's less in my style than normal. I'll probably make a more orchestrated and less synthetic version later on. But before that, what FF7R track should I do next?

Yeah, it's synthetic, but it sounds AWESOME. For your next cover, I think maybe a bit of softness could be great, I love Tifa's theme

Found you thanks to Reddit. This is pretty amazing. I don't know if it's from FF7R, but I think this track kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adiGZ5Oq1dDJZ6M.html deserves a good remix, and you sound like the person to get the job done. That was always a personal favorite track of mine because it sounds so simple, but very spooky.

I do too, however if im gonna be honest, I like this one better because it doesn't have the slow orchestrated part at the beginning like the remake track does However, that has its own place too because it really creates a "2nd round, FIGHT" feeling when the tempo really picks up. :)

I've always heard "The prelude" in jenova themes in my head but had never heard another person put in it the song!

I loved the lore of how Jenova almost killed all of the Ancients by disguising itself as their dead loved ones (perhaps that explains the "feminine" appearance when Shinra found it). If there ever was a "M rated" horror/RPG type Final Fantasy game then it would definitely be one about Jenova.

I think in the next part of the remake there will be a flashback of Jenova's slaughtering of the Ancients. The female form it takes was likely taken from its final victim before its defeat.

Honestly between her and Hojo, they were the real villains of FF7. Sephiroth just looks cool and appealing to people. Now I'll probably get smothered for saying this... :P

Finally, a good version of JENOVA that isn't the original. Seriously every new version or fan remix just keeps making it rock and the reason the original (and this) works so well is because it sounds so alien.

That's literally my grievance with a very significant chunk of remixes. Not to discredit the people who do rock remixes, but it doesn't work with everything.

One thing that this song has always made me feel, and I think that Alex Moukala's rendition seems to emphasize, at least to me, was that of like holding onto hope in the face of hopelessness. I just mean the vast majority of the song seems really oppressive and heavy, but then it has these moments that almost scream at me "Get up and fight!". I love music but I have a terrible ear for the stuff so my interpretation could be horribly off base here. That's just the feeling I get when I hear the OG Jenova and this rendition.

There's a reason for that, there's a section where the track modulates to an "epic" major key! (the one where the JENOVA synth arpeggio stops, and where the brass takes over). In the way Uematsu wrote it, I think supposed to make you feel heroic for a second

Bro this one is the best one. Seriously. Like some other people have said, it really just has a perfect contrast of "don't stop now, you got this" In my opinion, I think this the best rendition of the Jenova theme, its just so gosh darn GOOD!

Alex.. you have the ability to go inside the composers head and find that raw energy they must have felt when creating the original... If Nobuo Umatsu was a young man, I could imagine that this would be what a generation listened to.. thanks for peeling away the limits of the old tech from the 90s PS1

I totally understand a f2p game needing a steady income to keep the game going but hearing DE will have a hand in managing that does give this game way more credibility on what I can expect and I’ll definitely be trying this game out on release. So glad you brought this game to my attention.

I could imagine this being the direction they'd go for jenova's theme in Rebirth, with each fight with BIRTH, LIFE, and DEATH having a different instrument thrown in

This was SUCH a good arrangement. I got to 4:55 and was like "WAIT.... is it JUST NOW getting to the original material??" I had to rewind and confirm YES! you kept us engaged for 5 whole minutes and then gave us a straight up updated version of the original. YOU'RE going places! Square Enix will have no choice but to notice you!

This is how the original track FELT when I was a kid. Also, that sneaky FF arpeggio is such a good addition! It feels like it was always a part of the song, it just flows so naturally with the measures you placed it in. Ugh, this whole arrangement is just sexy.

The original always made me feel a mix of epicness and hope mixed with a sense of oppressive foreboding and this version does the same. I know nothing about composing, but as a listener I say well done in preserving the piece's atmosphere.

This is way better than what they used in the first two phases of the Jenova Dreamweaver fight, and about on the same level as the music in the third.

Jenova's theme is one of my favorites. But, this version gives off an ominous tone to it. It's almost like a sense of dread.

The best Jenova theme candidate for the Remake I have heard. Can totally imagine the final boss for Part 1 with this music (as I wouldn’t be surprised if they move Jenova Birth fight to the end of Midgar)

Just always a reminder, the face we see in like official artwork of jenova, like in this video. That is the corpse of a cetra jenova overtook and used her body as an avatar. Jenova was the first time I was introduced to lovecraftian horror.

I personally love the more synth approach! That was one of my favorite aspects of the original. Really drove home the whole mad science feeling. If the remake version isn't close to this, I don't want no part of it!

All I can picture listening to this is, if FFX3 happens You as Tidus/Yuna fights a monster at the end of the game, when you finally do enough damage to it, it changes into the character we recognise and the music changes from the boss theme to J-E-N-O-V-A's theme

I think the chaos adds to it. Lore wise it makes sense. It's nice to hear a new take on it. It kindof makes me think of Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3.

This seems more Shimomura like, as if it was a Kingdom Hearts 2 or 3 like boss, I'm impressed by its power and ferocity, very intense, and the choir is a nice touch, very well done, looking forward to hearing more, and could you imagine this as a KH Boss!? It boggles the mind.

This makes me wish Jenova was a secret boss in one of the Kingdom Hearts games! Jenova might be a little off brand though for being too creepy compared to everything else in the games (which is why she's/it's so effective) ×_×

While I like the more stylistically orchestral/choir rendition of JENOVA by Pontus Hultgren, I think your version is most likely the direction that Square Enix will go with as it's a more appropriate match to the ominous and alien atmosphere that the Jenova boss creature exudes. Fantastic job and keep up the great work, Mr. Moukala!

Only give away is that this isn't official is that there's a big "chasm" of reverb mud in the low mids. That doesn't mean that there hasn't clearly been some excellent mixing overall. The wideness keeps it from being abrasive but quite a bit seems to "disappear" around 150 and 300khz. And, honestly, only weirdos like me are going to appreciate the effort it takes to to compress/mix/sidechain articulation phrase by phrase. WIth so many "full spectrum" tambres going on, it's a programming nightmare. Overall, well done mate. This whole thing has been done in style and taste.

As a kid, I never understood quite why Sephiroth was able to be everywhere at once. Then that scene towards the end was all the Sephiroth clones are dying.... I just never understood it. It wasn't until recently that I played through this game again that I'd realized it was never Sephiroth to begin with. All those instances of him were Jenova. Man this game is wild... what a great story.

Sound ist definitely great but for me the most important thing in Jenovas theme is the constant accentuation of the strong straight 4/4 beat and it seems you interpreted that in a different way :D
