Thanks for the breakdown Hunter. Love Final Fantasy XI. Wish I could play. They should consider introducing a hard subscription ceiling cap. I used to run 2x Separate Characters plus 1x Mule on the Siren Sever. All three character have 80x spaces with Mog Wardrobes 3 and 4 unlocked. I still needed more room like Wardrobe 5 through 8. The costs add up very quick, and I have to quit until I could afford the time and money involved. Keep up the good work. Thanks for this video.

I cancelled 3 mules and only got wardrobe 5, so I'm saving a bit now. The mules had become pointless for me by now, and since I'm not going hardcore into endgame content and pretty much just enjoy the game by myself, I dont mess a whole lot with 17 different gearsets for a single job. The stuff I do, dont require that much. Most of my gear atm, are lower level gear I've had for years and use it still while leveling other jobs. If I ever get all jobs to 99, I'll probably get rid of that old gear and have even more room. Sure, I would love to try out the endgame stuff for fun and gear, especially with other players. But my daily life just wont allow me to allocate time for endgame. So my choice was to spend all my FFXI time in endgame or just enjoy what I can, when I can. I choose the latter and just enjoy the FFXI world, find my own fun and such. While I do very much miss the social part of the game, I cant see myself spending all my time farming gear nessesary to be part of the social endgame.

I think I heard at one point they wanted to keep load times between zones low but this kind of flies in the face of that unless their servers are upgraded now to handle it?

Back when I was a hoarder, I would actually backfill the delivery box to multiple characters. It's effectively damn near infinite storage, it's just a pain in the ass to cycle through the delivery box and send it back to yourself, and I think is also susceptible to server migrations but don't quote me on that. I know I had been away for the game for years and had a bunch of backed up inventory slots in the delivery box that was STILL there after like, 8 years. I'm not sure if it's still there. I guess I could log in to check during the Welcome Back to Vana'Diel campaign, but I know that was one of my methods of hoarding crystals back in the day.

So i got a quick question, when i tried to purchase mog wardrobe 3&4 it was greyed out and had the message "It is not possible to add a Mog Wardrobe option because an active character does not exist." But the problem is i only have one character and it was midway through it's subscription, so do i have to try and renew a subscription, stay subscribed to the game, or do i have to have multiple characters for me to even have the option to add MW3&4??? currently, i'm not subscribed, but i have been planning on coming back and this was bothering me for sometime.

I'm thinking of coming back and I;ve been away longer than 4 years. I very much like the idea of these wardrobes ofc, but are SE bringing in new items that are unique for maybe 1 job that enhances one job ability? Because I can see that being loads of new items swallowing up that space for people that want to be the best.

Am I missing something? I haven't paid anything extra and I have all 8 unlocked. I had all of them unlocked before the expansion of them. Are they maybe just going to disable them on my next billing cycle?

I don't know if I need the all of the additional but I feel like if you have 3 through 8 they could cut a bundle deal to help on cost that would be very nice. Since you're right this game now became extremely expensive if you need all 8 and on multiple accounts! I am not someone with multiple accounts if I can't do it solo or with trust I just find a group haha...

Awesome to hear they added storage sadly we all know what that means is more loading time for geat/items with zone changes. Been away for about 2yrs now prob looking to return part time in the spring this will be a pleasant surprise. Thanks for keeping us in the loop ◇●□

$8 extra per month doesn't sound like a lot for 320 extra inventory spaces. But it's still more than I'm willing to pay. I already pay $22 a month and with those it'd be an extra almost 100 bucks a year.

Example, I would pick 16 classes from XI that I want to play. 16, is the number of character slots.I seriously do not even like 16 jobs lol......however, those slots are left open for another character in case I do.

unrelated, but im really starting to think the 20th anniversary is going to be some kind of engine upgrade that allows them to have an easier time creating new assets. im not expecting something crazy like a fullblown remake or complete engine change, but something overhauled with their current tools to allow for new expansion releases. all these new systems they're adding are screaming "new things to use these new systems on". after all, what good are increased subjob levels without new things to use them on?

Best solution would be to disallow changing any gear while in battle, I have never liked it, i use it cause its there, but honestly it is stupid. You wouldnt be changing rings, earings, capes etc while in the middle of a battle lol - do this and this would open up lots of inventory space lol 🤣🤣

FFXI is already expensive with 3&4 Exp. I will not be adding any more.

I just got mule characters to hold my stuff.

I own 6 accounts, I've had 2 since 2004. I was already paying about $100/mo just to play the game. If I had done the new wardrobes on my main characters, it would be an extra $40/mo. Which got me thinking that paying $100/mo was ridiculous, just to have fun. So I canceled 5 of my accounts and am doing the new wardrobes on that account. I'm just worried I'll get bored waiting to do content with my friends, since it's hard to do new content solo.

Do what I did. Anything you don't want to touch anymore put in the wordrobe you don't want to drop.

Some people who play 14 spend more then $12 a month on the mog station on in game item or in mobile game people spend more then $12 a month so it’s what ever for me.

Crazy to think the price is going up 20 years into its life cycle. But tbh is still cheaper than most current day gacha games packs.

This may seem to be a bit far fetched but this is what makes sense to me. I think the only reason FFXI is still live is because of third party tools which enables bots. I think they are getting the majority of there income from bots. This would explain why there isn't much activity to get rid of them right now. I think they are going to go in hard to get rid of tools enabling bots in the near future and this is a way they can recuperate the money that they will be losing because of it. Again this is just my opinion.

I have no idea how people can even be divided on that topic, Square should have unlocked a third one as free to soften the mounting cost. I could use the extra space, but having a mule and already unlocked the prior wardrobes; no way and I putting another cent into my sub fee. That stuff and most of all Mastery levels going up and up are going to not only make new/returning players flat out refuse to comback, but is just more weight on the back of weary current players. Which after having master capped 3 of my jobs by jan, count me in.

Yeah the prime motivation is obviously money but if everyone had mog wardrobes i dont think the mog house would ever load. Its slow enough as it is. They have said this was a reason before. At least we dont have paid trusts, paid login points and paid get job to lvl 99 and paid story skips lol. Its likely matsui and yoshida were like "yeah we want to do all this stuff with ffxi next year but we need more money" and the ceo is like "ok this game isnt bringing in any new players - what are you gonna do to justify the expense?" and they're like "More Wardrobes!!!"

Unfortunately this is just a square enix thing my GF has maxed out her retainers on XIV which also cost 2 dollars a month and that's been in XIV since 2.0 I believe where you got 2 for free and could pay for 6 more

I am all for it. Square Enix needs the money to keep the servers up and running. This is not a mandatory service. This is completely optional.

assuming the wardrobes are unique per character you can get a better deal by just buying another character slot. unfortunately unlocking everything again on a new character would probably take 6 to 9 months of gamer life

Then there's FFXIV, additional retainers and hell they have a mobile phone app where you have to pay a sub for that to manage items on phone, of course then there's the whole mogstation of content you can't get in the actual game but have to pay real money for accessories

Well, you already deciphered its latent usage~ 😋 Pay once. Dump all Style Lock equipment in there and unsubscribe from the service. Done. Inventory should be good for a long while! I stopped playing, loooong before this service ever came to be, but I even though I only had 3 Lvl75 jobs _(yes, THAT long ago, though I did visit Abyssea... reluctantly.)_ I was often struggling with space, even with 1 mule. Especially when the Mog Bonanza hit and you had to carry those 10 stupid marbles for a month or so...🤤💦

Square Enix is just greedy. Simple as that. They nickel and dime in FFXIV as well. You pay for the game copy, you pay for the expansions, you pay a monthly sub. Then on top they have a cash shop, $2 per month per storage retainer over the two free ones up to a max of 8 retainers, and the companion app. I honestly feel that for the amount of money thrown at the game, both FXI and FXIV should be playable with a single subscription. Just my opinion.

While the price might seem high when it comes to Mog Wardrobes, it's understandable in my opinion. Personally I'd never pay for Mog Wardrobes because 1.) I think the economy is actually built around inventory restrictions and when you're sitting on so much stuff, you're withholding a digital item's accessibility from someone who could more use it in the moment (willing to explain further but will leave it there for now.) and 2.) I actually am fine not only with alts, but alt accounts where I can dual box. Far be it for me to tell anyone how to play the game, but I think it's borderline dumb to pay for multiple characters and expect all characters to be spec'd and geared the same. That's one of the perks of having another character, so that you not only have the varied look, but varied stats, and inventory space to explore a spec that's different from your main. For example, I can't intellectually respect a person who wants to spec two multi class Humes and then complain about inventory space on top of it because they're releveling everything they've already done on one character, on another character. At that point you're just asking to waste time, and that's your prerogative but the system doesn't have to surround it's monetary structure around that particular use case when you could just as easily just pick a general specialty between your characters and have them share inventory between each other. For example, by having one "Mage" character and one "Melee" character makes far much more sense if you're dual boxing or playing multiple alts, than it does to have two characters that are inundated with the same gear across each other. There's a fine line between not having enough inventory and overt inventory mismanagement. I honestly think a full Mog Wardrobe is only for a single character account that wants to multi class, but honestly I would find far much more value out of having standard Mog Wardrobes spread across two single character accounts. At that point you could do the whole Mage and Melee dual box and have double the inventory space for the price of one fully decked out character with more hording space than is necessary in my opinion. Even better if Mog Wardrobes are accessible across all characters on a single account. If you're not into dualboxing, but just want the space and want to double it, you could just have an account with two characters and all Mog Wardrobes. At that point, if you're having inventory or financial issues, you might need to seek professional help as you should start paying a bit more attention to the POL disclaimer and a little less on the time spent organizing your digital character's inventory. This is all without really mentioning the effect hording has on the economy but that's probably another long winded wall of text better saved for another time.

They haven’t increased the monthly fees in 20 years so I think it’s reasonable to charge more. Only hard core end game players will need that much space. I use the moogle to store a lot of gear and don’t change jobs as frequently as I used to anyway.

You know what could be a nice storage idea... Some sort of job specific wardrobe, one for each job, but you can only store gear that only this job can use (not just AF, relic, empy, mythic etc. but also include stuff like the Thief's Knife). And by limiting access to it to only when on that specific job, the load time when zoning can be optimized to load the "not the current job" last.

Ever since its introduction in 2016, it's been a pay to play service everyone in the community was afraid SE would do. Honestly, the first two paid for Wardrobe's don't push the price much higher than most other MMOs paid subscriptions. At the time, I was OK with this and paid for the extra service, as many other did too because the extra space was absolutely needed. With this additional four 80 slot inventories, SE is absolutely pushing the pay to play/win budget onto the players. Why? IDK, much like you, its hard to find a reason for the extra charge when storage and digital resources are pennies on the company. My opinion, they know those that are die hards for the game with front the cost. They will tell everyone else to just not pay for the extra service, knowing full well the game requires the extra space to function as a player in all its capacity.

I will gladly pay. I believe it will be for the better in the future of FFXI.

Sick of SE I play FF11 since 2002 in ps2. They charge a subscription and do nothing for a game for years. That's why I stop 2019 I'm done. GW 2 has no subscription and is a very good game I'm done with FF 11 and 14.

I always thought it was ridiculous to have wardrobes as a monthly fee and not a one time fee to purchase. It's definitely a cash grab. Typical gaming nowadays
