After watching this video, I went out to check some numbers for myself, out of curiosity. Converse to what was said in this video, I was definitely hitting the nuke wall when changing elements. Nuking on Bounding Belinda, all locked into a single gear set: Fire: 4138 Blizzard: 4180 Fire > Fire: 4138 > 3310 Blizzard > Blizzard: 4180 > 3344 Fire > Blizzard: 4138 > 3344 Blizzard > Fire: 4180 > 3310

I finally got around to re-testing and can confirm it does work across elements, I have in my notes where I had tested before but it was one of the first things I tested and it was before I noticed that perfectly timed simultaneous nukes sometimes dodge the nuke wall so maybe I managed to have that happen accidently a few times.

Thank you for this video! I started playing FFXI in Jan and have been taking an unconventional route, enjoying Lvl. 60 gearing and content. Still very information and would definitely love a Magic Damage video!

Thanks for putting in the work, Jakey! I couldn’t quite square up the bg-wiki page with what I observed in my recorded NM fights but never had the resources (or motivation) to test and figure it out. Keep up the good work!

While you specify this mostly applies to NMs, it also seems to be applied to regular monsters, but only in certain endgame events. For example, multiple blus simultaneously nuking on top of each other in Omen will all hit for full damage on the trash mobs, but in Vagary/Dynamis Divergence/Odyssey/Sortie, this wall is applied to the non-NM mobs present.

Ok I can confirm the nuke wall applies to both Ancient Magic and at least some magic blood pacts.

People were saying NIN is not affected by adds to it. I don't recall people saying Blu is not affected. I frequently gets it in Ejnheriar spamming Subduction solo.

Yeah I’ve heard that ninjutsu does not wall itself but it does wall other elemental magic

Pet (smn and bst) is also effected out seems from my experiences nuking on those two jobs. Pup and dry I'm not sure of.

Did you happen to test Ancient Magic as being subject to the nuke wall? The way I understand it, the whole point of AM is to be utilized during cooperative magic bursting. Sort of completely defeats the purpose if it is.....

Just for completeness, are Blood Pact nukes/magic pacts also affected by the nuke wall?

I used abyssdiver for alot of testing as well and He does have increased magic defense from my experience(magic defense bonus in some shape), have you taken those in account? This is something that might have skewered the lunge/swipe numbers

Its not NM only. I can get walled self nuking AoE in Sortie on Acuex for example and they are not NMs.

There are a few endgame events that seem to be an exception, Omen is another one although I chalked that one up to how they randomly assign NM to one of the mobs, makes me wonder if that's one of the unknown objectives in Sortie. Sortie does have some funny business with mini-Nakul's not checking as NMs and they were getting the gravity glitch when that was a thing.
