Hey Momo! I've been enjoying the Dawntrail content, but I must say I don't quite get why you consider Seraphism to be so much stronger than Philosophia. Visually and creatively it is of course the much more interesting ability, no arguments there, but powerwise I feel like they are extremely similar. Sorry if this comment comes across as ranty or hostile, but I feel like you're making a bit of an unfair comparison regarding their use cases. I feel like you are putting too much emphasis on Philosophia as a better Kardia, and overlooking how it competes with Seraphism's output if both are forced to gcd heal (which is the only situation you'd use Seraphism) To begin with, their main effects are essentially the same two things: 1. Increase your gcd healing by 20% (Accession and Manifestation are just 20% stronger Succor and Adlo, respectively) 2. Grant a regen-like effect to heal the party without using healing gcd's (100p regen vs 150p "Kardia") You say Eudaimonia has potential to overheal when it's not needed due to the necessity to roll your gcd for dps, but isn't that even more true of the Seraphism's regen effect, which you have NO control over? At the same time, Eudaimonia heals for 50% more, and will of course also heal more often than the regen ticking every 3 seconds (assuming you're rolling the gcd of course). Furthermore, you say Seraphism works well because healing gcd's are expected to be timed well. But Eudaimonia also procs on those healing gcd's, essentially functioning like a Plenary and adding a flat 150 potency to each gcd (which somewhat makes up for E.Prog being 100 potency under Succor by default). Isn't that just more healing per GCD than scholar can put out, even with Seraphism active? Seraphism obviously has 2 unique effects over Philosophia: Instant gcd heals for the duration (which are baseline for Sage shields), and no cooldown on Emergency tactics. While this is strong, I feel like this is only advantageous over Sage if you somehow require an absolutely massive amount of healing and there is also no concurrent damage to break shields between the casts. In that situation, Sage would be forced to spam normal Prognosis due to Pepsis not being spammable or buffed by Philosophia, which obviously is nowhere near the output Scholar can do with Emergency Manifestation. Is this a situation you see realistically happening a decent amount in prog? Is this just a case of Seraphism solving a bigger issue for Scholar (mobile, continuous gcd healing) than Philosophia does for Sage (Kind of just more of what Sage is already good at), thus ending up a "stronger" ability? Or is it something else that makes Seraphism complement Scholar's kit so much better than Philosophia for Sage? If you got this far, thanks for reading!
@FFXIVMomo

I don't think you we're being hostile and I don't mind engaging in conversation :3 The biggest difference when I consider Seraphism is the ability to spam 672 potency AOE (+100 if you want to consider a tick from the regen) raw heals through Emergency Tactics spam whereas with Sage, because Pepsis doesn't scale, you can do one 620 potency heal in your Philo window before being forced into using raw Prognosis' which only heal for a 510 potency in conjunction with the Philo tick while also locking them into the 1.5 castbar. It also feels doubly bad when using it for raw healing purposes since not only are you forced into castbars but you technically nerf your HPS potential since using E.Prog under Philo is 702 potency total. Granted, this is a niche since realistically you'd be using a GCD shield > raw heal > gcd shield > raw heal etc but is something I consider a difference as SCH doesn't get punished for using it from a raw healing perspective always being 672 + 100 potency heals. Whereas Sage is always 510/702. I also take into account on how the action synergizes with the jobs existing toolkit and while Seraphism fixes the mobility issues for Scholar for a short period of time on top of giving them a consistent way to output raw heals - something they struggled with previously. Philosophia doesn't really give to much to the Sage except fill their already jam packed healing kit with more healing; which isn't a bad thing by any means but it definitely feels less impactful. It's a Similar issue to where White Mage does more healing throughput than Astrologian but can Square Enix make a fight where that actually matters? And historically they haven't really. This is also just my initial thoughts, something that might change once we get to use it more in Savage and Ultimate. That being said I don't really consider Seraphism that much better than Philosophia at all. Seraphism's hype previously mainly came around it serving as a mitigation tool as it was thought that Recitation would work on Manifestion/Accession but because it doesn't the value of the skill goes down pretty heavily. It will be an extremely strong prog tool but outside of that it will be much worse off than Philosophia.

Thanks for putting this together. As a sage/scholar main in high end content. I also agree that Philosophia has a more positive vibe than mentioned in the video ( although I respect your opinion Momo). The non emergency tactics version of the skill have almost the same power in fights when thinking hps while. In places were the emergency tactics spam matter (none for the current fights so far for me as the damage is better but not crazy) it gives the edge of healing to scholar for sure. However in places were both healing abilities are enough I do love the positive of not loosing any GCDs to healing while blasting with sage and Philosophia is on taking care of the party. Finding places where panhaima or Philosophia is more optimal becomes a good optimization cealing that sage has currently based on the nature of the damage. Still agree 5 seconds in the regen skill is boring. I wish every day that Rizomata could give both stacks or turn an addersgall one into addersting.

@@FFXIVMomo Thanks for answering! I guess when it comes down to it, Seraphism lets Scholar borrow some of Sage's usual strengths temporarily, while Philosophia doesn't let Sage snatch any of Scholar's. I still feel it's a bit odd to describe Philosophia as "restrictive" and Seraphism as "flexible", when in reality there will probably be more situations where Philosophia is useful (either for the regen, heal spam, slight mitigation, or a combination of these) vs Seraphism, which will only really be used to spam heals (using it just for the regen is probably not worth desummoning the fairy?). But I guess it's more along the lines of "It could already do all that", so the situations which call for even more power are very rare.

@@FFXIVMomo Since SCH is locked out of using Seraphism with Dissipation, I wonder if Physis II + Philosophia gets SGE on par, esp. given the flex to proc a 165 tick when doing damage.

@@FFXIVMomo Do you think Squenix will make it so Recitation can work with the Seraphism abilities? As strong as I think it'd be, isn't it still similar to using it along with Dissipation? They both give a 20% buff to our healing so it feels a bit odd to me that it doesn't but maybe there's something I'm missing?

I was looking forward to this and fully agree. I saw Philosophia and said "wait.. what? why?" I kind of genuinely hate it? It's thematic, funny because "WOW AOE KARDIA!!!", but like.. you can do anything you would want from this skill normally in SGE's kit? It's another big regen. Pneuma has burst healing covered and we have a million ways to slow burn HP bars back up. Hoping content shows up that really makes this button worth caring about more.

A lot of people seem to forget or completely overlook the new Eukrasian Dyskrasia. It's at least a very welcome new tool in dungeons on trash pulls, where Sage can sometime struggle keeping a tank up that is poorly geared or doesn't use their own mitigation properly.
@FFXIVMomo
@FFXIVMomo Күн бұрын
I actually disagree. I forgot to bring it up in this video but it almost felt completely useless when leveling since you should be multi dotting on the way between each pack and by the time you end up reaching the end of a pull everything is generally dotted and by the time you need to refresh it's almost not worth using it unless you have really slow DPS. I only actually even found myself using this skill more often once I reached the expert dungeons because the leveling dungeons have such small amounts of mobs per pack. Maybe it feels better in the lower level dungeons though.

I think a problem is they need to identify what things are essential that all healers should have and what things are not. For example, Raise is essential (as is Esuna, but that got moved to a Role Action). For example, with all the party mitigation checks, having several partywide mitigations was essential FOR HEALERS in EW, but WHM had only one every 2 mins (by comparison, AST had 3, since Collective was every 60 sec and it had Neutral allowing partywide shielding THAT STACKS WITH SCH and SGE shields every 2 minutes on top of that). They need to make sure all the healers have a version of a tool, or some comparable tool (and no, Lilybell is not comparable since it doesn't give more than 100% health buffer AND has a longer 3 min CD vs Panhamia and Seraph's 2 mins) to deal with those situations. The pure/barrier split is already a problem, but when it's just one healer that's the odd man out, it really hurts that healer, which is why WHM was less desired in a lot of content in EW. So they need to figure out what is essential and homogoenize THAT, but then heterogenize all the rest of the stuff. For example, Expedient's Sprint isn't essential, but is a "nice to have", and so that being a point of uniqueness is good. Eos and Cure 3 being able to be healing totems are nice things as well, but again, not essential things. For all the flack it gets, Synastry is pretty unique. For healers, the "does healing" tools are where they could use some heterogeneity, since there are a lot of different ways to accomplish that allowing differences that don't screw over the Job or Jobs that don't have them. But there's clearly essential stuff that all healers need, and that's where there should be homogenization. Again, imagine if there was a healer Job that didn't have a Raise and the problems that would cause.

@@SubduedRadical Whm having less mitigation was only really a problem when paired with sage in DSR, but that's more an issue of sage having less mit than scholar. This also only showed up in fights that were very mitigation demanding. For all other content whm has been totally fine. Comparing pure healers with shield healers doesn't really make sense since it's very clear Square Enix isn't balancing them that way. Whm and ast have comparable kits, while for shield healers sage and scholar have a comparable kit.

I was looking at Philosophia trying to decide where it'd be most useful and it occurred to me. If I had it during HH on P10S that mechanic would have been far easier to get through. Yeah Philosophia is restrictive.. oh wait we wiped once today cause Seraphism doesn‘t work after Dissipation, and without you still cannot move and heal to the extend required with the current lackluster kit and potencies. Your fairy potencies are almost non-existent, Indom is better, but doest even heal one hit back up, nevermind 3 back to back. In that sense Philosophia is actually not restrictive at all, you can just use it whenever and it will be able to do it’s job, without any arbitrary conditions that make a old system feel even worse. I agree that it sound rather lackluster in comparison, but Sage is already hands down overturned and overpowered as it is, while staying rather simple to use and being extremely fast and responsive. So this extra, comparatively strong, HoT, is just another bonus imo
@SubduedRadical
@SubduedRadical 9 күн бұрын
It's more yet another reason Dissipation is a bad skill. Seraphism is amazing, imo. It's my "well, the crap has hit the fan" button and every time I've used it, I've been able to pull people through stuff. Flipside, I genuinely never use Dissipation unless I've been farming a fight so much I'm FARMING the fight. I hate Dissipation in general and won't use it until I'm at that point, so I never have the issue of being locked out of some of my skills. /shrug

Sure, in low optimization environments you'll likely not get the maximum potency of Philosophia, but at the same time in those exact same low-optimization environments people are likely taking more damage than necessary from mistakes, underutilized mitigation, or taking longer to kill trash due to low DPS. So frankly, in that sense it pretty much cancels it out. You'll probably find more use out of it in Duty Finder than you will in mid-optimization environments like when you first start progging a fight.

honestly as a scholar main, while seraphism is better, i like sage's lv 100 skill more. why? Because unlike seraphism, sage can continue with the same gameplay pattern of attacking with gcds and healing with ogcds. The whole kit of both sage and scholar is meant so you almost never need to use a gcd to heal, and instead weave your healings between your damage skills, specially sage, and now while in seraphism i need to choose between dpsing or healing, meanwhile sage will be doing both.

It seriously does help your hand longevity to alternate some like that. I'm not too far from off from 40 here, don't be like me and wait until your mid 30s to start thinking about it.
