If i remember correctly Koji Fox the lead translator for FFXIV came up with these lyrics when they were under a massive time crunch and he was delirious from the lack of sleep that's why some of the lyrics is pure nonesense.

Soken loves to use non-convential/homemade instruments in his songs as well. In place of a traditional rattle/maraca he just put some thumbtacks into a ramen cup and shook it for example. Also when playing a piano concert during Fan Fest in place of normal percussion he just kicked a box to the beat he had set up under the piano.

Locus is more the generic theme for non-specific bosses (although I think most people think of the Pepsiman fight when they think of it). The synth is one of my favorite parts about it, how it chimes and just sounds sort of techo-etherial. I'm commenting backwards after watching all three but I'm super pumped you enjoyed them all and I will definitely give Infected Mushrooms a listen!

This is the generic boss theme in the Alexander raid series. It plays over about half the boss encounters. Alexander is the location the raid takes place in - A super-massive robot with a city built inside of it (And is also a god of time). Gordias & Midas refer to sectors within Alexander, specifically the arms and shoulders. Michael Koji Fox (lead singer of The Primals and I believe localization director of the game) is the singer on Locus and a lot of the boss themes with lyrics in the game. The Primals version of Locus (which has an actual music video, btw) is actually used in-game against the boos of The Twinning: The Tycoon (A reverse-engineered Alexander). The only major change is the addition of guitar to the song. Lastly, the remaining two boss themes of Alexander you've yet to get to: - Exponential Entropy - Rise

This is one of the few perfectly looped songs with both lyrics and music perfectly transition from the end to the beginning. It’s because in the lore, the Alexander raid is created by a time loop and was also closed by the players. So this song also loops infinitely as a closed loop.

"Is that Alexander?" That is a subject I refuse point blank to touch, elaborate on or try to explain because that leads to some mental loops that'll cause the universe to implode.

I absolutely adore the duet parts and the lyrics in the Alexander songs, they're nothing like I've ever heard before or since.

So my interpretation of the random/experimental drums is this: Alexander is a giant machine and runs entirely on logic, like a computer. It could just be me, but the drums and the distortion sounds a lot like an old, 90s PC booting up, and the static/clicking noises they would make.

so this is the music from a series of raids. in this raid you are fighting a time travel cult comprised of steampunk goblins. I credit the experimental nature of this raid to that context

Caught it in this video, almost all boss themes are 4-5 minutes long and most are seamless loops for 10-15 minutes fights. Really fun reacts, glad you're enjoying Soken's work :>

Locus is such a bop, purely because.... it's got such a nice beat and flow to it, that quite a few classes when you're actually fighting the bosses that play this song actually feel like you're pressing buttons to the flow of the beat; it's SO MUCH FUN!! Alexander is one of those places you go into and go "yeah it's just a big robo- OH MY GOOOOOOOOOD????" You got robots forming voltron in there, an incredible story, dope ass fights and music that you have to actually like... try hard to not nod your head along to or you can screw up and die because you were jamming out too hard LMAO. I'm still relatively new, and it astounds me that like.... every raid I go into, every fight I participate in has music that is just wildly different from another places. This also applies to zones and dungeons - there this one place I got to and got dropped kicked by the community meme "twinning" which is a dungeon but has music that goes HARD from the SECOND you zone in. General advice for twinning is as such: "first time here, what do I do?" "turn the music up"

I love Soken. He is a prure genius when it comes to music, and his passion for his art.

There is a version of this track played by The Primals (Soken's band for Final Fantasy XIV). There are a ton of other tracks from the game his band does including Metal - Brute Justice Mode (Journeys) and Rise (Journeys). Both are from the same raid as "Locus". Oh, and more guitar!

I've done this boss so many times and never really heard the lyrics and it makes so much sense. The goblins are fanatical over their primal, their machine god, and the lyrics reflect that devotion and slight madness. Just singing of technical processes but it brings home their devotion to the machine and their believe in technology and reason. I love this game

Looked up Infected Mushroom just now. I wanna say I've heard them before, but I sure as hell can't be sure but I love Saeed. Just sad it's taken me this long to know them. Good recommendation.

Been watching a lot of your FFXIV reacts recently, and it's given me an even bigger appreciation of the love I have for the game's music and for Soken's, frankly absurd, range as a composer. The man could decide he wanted to make a track entirely out of soundbites made from kicking over the office garbage can, and it'd be an absolute banger. If you want some songs that are lovely, slower pieces you could check out Sands of Amber and Neath Dark Waters. They're two of my favourites from the Shadowbringers expansions, heavy on piano but I love them.

The live version of this song is really good also.

When we first come to Alexander raids, this music is jamming and pumping, and crazy lyrics are great into delivering the feel of the place. There are so many Alexander related themes, but they are all connected in a sense. And I love synth parts here :) Thanks man!

I think this song is very polarizing for people who raid The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate), they either fall in love with it or start to utterly despise of it. I definetly am part of the former ^^

I absolutely love the Alexander raid music, it is electronic and catchy fitting with Alexander's theme of machineries.

I actually quite liked the addition of the "random drums". Gave a vibe of mechanical grinding almost like an engine trying to start, which really fit for a raid series about a mechanical god like Alexander.

So I first heard this song while browsing youtube. The video you reacted to is actually the one I found it with. At first I hated it. Then I finally got to this point in the game where I was doing the boss fights and OMG it was so much better! Since then this has been one of my favorites :)

FF XIV Spoilers: To make it short: Alexander is an artificial being close to be called a god who can control time. He calculates infinite futures and decided that he is the biggest threat to the world. Because he absorbs energy from the world that is needed to keep the world going. So he tries to stop himself and there is a couple involved to, you learn more of their story throughout the raid. The climax is that the couple imprisoned themself with Alexanders core in an infinite time loop so he never is able the return again.

Soken is a musical genius, lol.

This sounds like the kind of thing where you need the gameplay to back up the music in order to get the real rush of emotions, listening to these out of order so after just hearing Equilibrium I can't say this did much for me, hard to imagine they came from within the same game :)

It's been a while since I played that story... but also yesyes you should really listen to "Rise" because that is the song that plays when you fight "Alexander Prime" and for the part where u said that its really experimental... this raid came out in the expansion where we ended a 100 year war between whats essentially elves and just a "few" thousand dragons

Playing FFXIV Wiped few times : can you focus on the raid instead of jamming? Me : oops. Same problem with shiva, I was kind of mindlessly doing the trial. it was lv 50 trial It should be fine right, we never wiped before... dodge, attack, heal, etc. Song turned into oblivion, then when I realized I'm on the floor and actually forgot to heal.
