I always thought it weird that the Scions didn't know how to seal away voidsent when the White Mages did it so easily back in the 5th Astral Era. Oh well. So lets talk about and oldy but a goody when it comes to dungeons!

Soooo i got curious and followed the names and origins during the void ark raids. We all know cait sith is pronounced cat shee. But dun scaith is actually pronounced doon skawk. And mach? Actually Vawch

This is awesome, I knew about cat-shee as it’s a pretty cool bit of Scottish folklore (yes I’m Scottish) but it’s so interesting to know Dun Scaith and Mach are pronounced differently too.

I love how FF14 makes a nation of White Mages a terrifying and powerful force that stands on it’s own. It’s a refreshing change from how they’re normally portrayed in the history of Final Fantasy.

So...if he got sent back to the Void after his defeat...who brought him back then? I know Diablolos is a rather tricky fellow but he shouldn't normally have the resources to summon his buddies from the other side...unless I was missing something from the Mhachi raids.

The honest answer is, I don't know. Ferdiad and Diablos both deformed after their defeat in their respective dungeons, which normally symbolizes their banishment back to the 13th. Yet its implied they were able to get back, somehow? It's weird. Either they had different ways of returning to the Source via other voidsent minions or they were special and could hide away after their defeat somehow. And if the latter is true.... man the WoL is terrible at confirming kills.

@@alanclw6024 Hard to say. Until I get more concrete data on what made Cagnazzo and Rubicante special I can't say for sure. Maybe the aether of a dragon made the difference, but then it begs the question. Why? Because Azdaja is an alien not from the Source. lol

I think the reason diablo came back wad cause he faked his first defeat, possibly the same with ferdiad. We've seen diablo use bat familiars to sneak away or remain inconspicuous

Wait so, defeating a voidsent in the source doesn't kill it? (Send it to the source's aetherial sea?) This confuses me in relation to recent post EW MSQ that suggests that coming to the source and dying actually works? At least that's the idea I got from Spoilers: Rubicante?

I'm going to be completely honest. I have no idea what's going on with Rubicante and Cagnazzo. So far the lore has been very clear that when a voidsent is killed, its essence returns to the 13th. There's even dialogue that says the Source rejects such corrupt aether and wont take a voidsent into the aetherial sea.

@@SynodicScribe My guess for that would be that most Voidsent in the Source are possessing a body with their true body in the Void, while Rubicante was still in his true body in the Source.

@@mcsweeney202 The problem with that is minor voidsent have been coming over to the Source in their full body for thousands of years since they can just slip through tiny holes in the veil between worlds. Yet never was it said they became part of the Source upon defeat.

big retcon here depending on your sources, Golbiz' whole plan is to travel to the source so that his voidsent can enjoy true death, a fact confirmed by Zero who told us voidsent go to the source to feed and/or die for good.

I believe the voidmages had some sort of magicks that prevented their summons from dying proper. that or they did indeed retcon the voidsent to make them more human.

Yeah the problem with the post EW story is that it's contradicting a lot of previous lore with no real explanation as to why. If they want to change/expand on the lore, that's fine, it's their choice. But they need to clarify why and how we didn't know this stuff before hand, which FFXIV honestly fails at quite often. =/

@@SynodicScribe To be honest, it could be explained by some of the lore we were given before going to the 13th that often the voidsent we fight ain't in there in physical body so therefore they return to the 13th when they are defeated. meanwhile a voidsent that enters through it's own flesh will perish alongside with it, as it will rejoin the life-stream as it was meant to.

Yet no one has even said anything about their essence joining the Source, in fact, I have screen shot dialogue that says the Aether Realm rejects such corrupt aether and will not take it. If the writers aren't gonna care about continuity, neither am I. lmao

iirc in the post endwalker msq we learn that voidsent are only "immortal" in the void , but if they are killed in the source they actually die forever. I got confused as well.

I guess they did another retcon. Ferdiad dying sent him back to the void. *SPOILERS* . . . . . . . . . . . . But Cagnazzo and Rubicante both died when they were in the Source.
