Just want to +1 this. The parts of these videos that really work are when you're talking about the event we're also watching. It's so confusing to be watching some dragons in the background while trying to listen to something totally unrelated

I've just reached Shadowbringers and I can't help to feel like Stormblood was almost like a filler arc, while the main and really important facts happen in the last patches before Shadowbringers. Also, thanks for the work on this great recap video!

there's so much hate on this series, i found it really helpful for someone whos played through it all but i need a reminder so I can go into shadowbringers feeling fresh! Nice thank you for the summary! Wow Ascian seem to be everywhere I wonder if they are or were Necromancers (Job) before they became this immortal beings...the way their abilities behave almost seem like the basis of their powers are inspired or derive from this Job from Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade... Hmmm I guess maybe in the future we might know now that we become the Warrior of Darkness or maybe as part of the Job story if this Job Class ever gets added to FF14.

Could you please do a deep dive on Tataru? I want to know why the warrior of light feels the need to make her tea after saving the world in ARR. Surely she must be the most powerful cross dimensional being. Perhaps she is the true god above Hydaelyn and Zodiark hinted at by the trailer? Everything makes sense now.

The hardest part for me was references to characters who's names I already didn't remember because some of the names in this game are hogwash lol. Especially the Imperial names. Maybe more purposeful editing, adding pictures of things and people that are referenced. Also, thanks for summarizing the crystal tower raid! I did that raid YEARS ago and skipped all of those cutscenes as well lol!

I really appreciate you trying to put this together. You hit the beats that matter but at times I feel that you are slurring words together and reading too quickly making it hard to follow- along with the already mentioned images of events not matching up. Honestly, reading slower and clearer and even repeating cutscenes or flashing the correct characters would do the trick. Thanks for making this though!!

@@Work2Game Hey Butcher of words, I enjoyed it immensely and can't thank you enough for doing this. I started playing a few months back and felt like I needed to rush in order to get caught up for ShB launch, and thus I hit that escape key on every cut scene and didn't really read anything lol... Thanks to you I don't feel NEARLY as lost in the sauce anymore, like this seriously gave me a good understanding of the plot and everything that is going on, I no longer feel super confused :D

I'm not gonna fault you on pronounciation, I'm aware you're somewhat dyslexic, however I will call to attention your use of the name "Zenos van Galvus". Van is the title given to someone who is a legatus (Regula van Hydrus, Gaius van Baelsar, Nael van Darnus) Zenos's title is "yae" which signifies his status as the crown prince.

Throw wide the gates! Seven shards are gone after the Calamities, but if the way is opened, perhaps the other shards will be accessible. Perhaps there's a Crystal Tower in every shard. And there has to be a way for the WoL/D and thousands of adventurers to travel between the First and the Source.

You're not stupid, the story is genuinely awful. I just skip though all the dialogue and cut-scenes and definitely don't regret it. I was glad to see this video series to see if I missed anything interesting by doing that..... yeah no, even condensed into 28mins I wound up falling asleep 5mins into this video, I got through it though after I woke up. It's just so bad lol.

Most people say the story is pretty good. These videos aren't the greatest for telling the story though. They skip a lot of important details and make it more confusing than it needs to be in the interest of time.

@@Work2Game That's partially correct. As it is spelled out in the game where the A and E are separate characters, it could potentially be pronounced Ay-thur. However, when using the Æ grapheme as in the archaic spelling of the word Æther, it is pronounced with a long E. Given that it is an archaic spelling, most modern fonts do not support the grapheme Æ, instead opting to spell the word with two separate letters. It therefore falls on the reader to discern whether the word is meant to be spelled with two separate characters or if it is intended with the Æ pronunciation. Given that the voice acting in the game consistently pronounces "Aether" the same as you would the more modern spelling "ether," I am inclined to support that pronunciation as correct. My one issue with this is mostly your manner of speaking. You don't really enunciate well in certain parts and your words sort of slur together to become undecipherable. Like in one point it became a bit hard to fully follow, then heard 'ul'a' rather than 'Ul'dah' I knew what you meant, but still. Additionally some of the visual choices made the story hard to follow where you'd be talking about one thing but showing another.

After playing through all of the expansions except Endwalker (yet) without skipping anything, I struggle to understand why so many people adore the story of xiv. Everything is either standard things we heard dozens of times by now (war, deception, betrayal, bla bla bla) or its contrived beyond believe. I assume its fanboyism? I have yet to find a single MMO with a good story. I understand the struggle though. Telling a well paced and original story in an MMO is extremely difficult, due to the nature of an MMO (people being on different stages of the story; the need to stretch playtime; etc.). Thats the reason why so few people play MMOs for the story. Like, compare the storytelling of xiv with lets say Horizon Zero Dawn or Cyberpunk 2077 (dont comment on the bugs, I'm talking solely about the story). The levels of immersion are just not compareable. And the fact that the graphics of xiv are 12 years old by now doesnt help with the immersion either, even when using Gshade. Dont get me wrong though, I'm having a blast playing xiv with my friends, its really fun. But definitely not because of the contrived story. I'm still so confused... So, like -- The point of everyone going Comatose is that they've crossed over to the First (the one the warriors of Darkness were from in ARR?). To take the fight to the tyrannical Light? Does this mean Mynfillia(sp) and those Warriors of Darkness failed? That being why we must cross over now? --And if so...why do WE care? It's not our shard. We have our own issues going on over here. Why are we trying to save some other shard?

I'm not surprised people are having a hard time following this. Please, please slow down in future series videos and read the names correctly. Calling Yotsuyu "Yosetsu" is very confusing, especially when you get to the part where "Suyu" (or as you called her, "Soyu") is travelling alongside Gosetsu. You also couldn't decide on how to pronounce Allagan, frequently calling it either the correct pronunciation, or "Algean". At 22:14, you pronounce G'raha as "Guarana". I was having a very hard time following everything due to these mistakes.

The names in this game are straight up blah. They can't name NPCs Towns or anything without it being complicated. I'm trying to follow the lore but it's meh....
