Great to hear Scottish music being highlighted like this. And credit to Setagawa - not as painful as most classical musician's attempts at traditional music. To hear the real thing search for performances by the composer Tom Anderson, or by Scottish National Treasure Aly Bain - king of the Shetland fiddlers and a pupil of Tom's.

I am learning to play this song at the moment in my fiddle class. A beautiful tune and a sad story...

Not traditional, John ? I,d say that Tom Anderson was about as traditional as they come ! or is there a cutoff date ? Beautiful tune and tastefully played :)

So peaceful and kind of sad .The fading light ,meaning the fading population on the shetland island's.

that's not the meaning. I had the privilege of meeting Tam when I was in my late teens and he played the tune for me, he told me he was travelling back from playing one might and as he looked back over the island, he could see all the lights in the windows being put out for the night, or slokit ( snuffed out) not for a fading population. it's more in remembrance of loved one's lost.

Not bad, but I prefer It played by Tom Anderson. Or by Aly Bain.

Beautiful , but not a traditional Shetland tune. It was written in 1969 by Tom Anderson.

Just give it fifty years and it should be perfectly traditional

@@gloin10 anyone who ever met Tam, including myself would know he was the epitome of traditional and his composing had the heritage of all the traditional Shetland fiddlers in it.....
