And, it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters ... The magic of, "Field of Dreams."

I have never played baseball. I have never seen a baseball game. I cry floods of tears at this movie every time. "People will come" - Cynthia Irwin-Williams.

I was just here last weekend with my father, brother, and sister. When Terrance Mann says "Unbelievable" and Ray replies"It's more than that. It's perfect." is the only way to describe it

it was once said that it's hard to not be poetic about baseball. even a retiree one hit wonder writer who lives up as a recluse in Boston can find something so alluring and romantic about a sandlot.

I’m now 71 and I’ve seen & heard the best - The Dodgers in The Coliseum, Roger Maris, Yogi, The Mick hit a home run at Dodger Stadium (Angels vs Yankees, 1962), Sandy Koufax, Willie Mays, Don Drysdale’s shutouts, Pete Rose, Nolan Ryan, Dale Murphy, Fernando’s no-hitter, Hank Aaron, Vin Scully’s call of Kirk Gibson’s 3-2, 2 out bottom of the 9th walk-on home run in Game 1 of The World Series, and so happy to have snagged SIX foul balls with my best friend (3 each)! I consider Bill Kinsella, who wrote ‘Shoeless Joe’, to have been a friend. He graciously signed 4 copies of his famous book . . . And 3 more which I still have, along with a personal note with each one. These very likely the last Bill signed. He passed away only 3 days after sending them to me. As it turned out, Iowa was Heaven for my friend Bill . . .

I find the concept that Terrence Mann was a ghost too so fascinating. It makes this scene have such a different feel. Annie's brother isn't hearing Mann's speech at all.
@nocturnalrecluse1216 Жыл бұрын
That's not true. He shook man's hand as he was introduced to the brother. Mann is definitely alive and kicking.

The music in combination with James Earl Jones' speech makes this scene magical. A movie's score is so important in my opinion

I played baseball as a 12 year old kid (I'm now 69). I'm aware that to new generations, baseball seems like a slow moving dinosaur. But, baseball has a legacy beyond any other sport. I hope we don't lose that legacy.

But I fear they have, look at the millennials w/no dreams no respect no work ethic lacking morals. Look at antifa, violent protestors, amount of petty criminal punks on the rise. Antifa punks have a great love to destroy and be violent becoming the norm.

You don't even have two countries playing baseball to call it an international sport. What legacy?

With all the crap in the world in the last 24 hours, I've been trying so hard to mentally send myself to Iowa. I've got a trip planned with my parents to the field in October and hopefully my uncle can join us too. How I long to enjoy the peace that is there in Iowa. Every video I've seen of the field gives off 2 things: peace and quiet. It's incredible to see just how silent it is at the field, aside from the wind blowing on the corn and the occasional sound of a ball hitting a mitt/bat. I can't wait to be there and see this slice of Heaven for myself.

Yes, they’ll come. Most of the players from the 50’s, 60’s, and some 70’s and 80’s will be playing. Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams, ....etc. will all be playing. Seniors got retirement monies, they’ll come. Yes, I’ll come. Too bad they can’t give autographs. Packed stadiums. 75 year olds grew up in the 50’s. They’ll be there. Build a senior citizen town around it. Hospitals and malls with 50’s themes. People will come, Ray, they show up to Iowa. Pass over $20 like nothing.

It's not as articulate as Terrence Mann's, but that's the entire point. It's the exact same feeling and sentiment coming first through the mind of a young child, and then coming through the mind of a wise and acclaimed author.

"Editing is Everything" could easily turn this into a horror film. LOL I love it so much, it's one of my favorite films of all time (even though I hate baseball...go figure!), but if you didn't know anything about it and just heard this little girl saying, "People will come," it might sound kind of creepy.

I like that the little girl is talking to her dad about how people will come, and then James Earl Jones sees that she needs a bit of help. So he tells her dad basically the same thing she was saying, just in a more James Earl Jones-ish way. Don’t judge me.
