People are so wasteful with plastic shotshells. I REALLY appreciate your video and im glad to see there are people re-using this wasted plastic. You can get 6 or 7 loadings usually from plastic shotshells before they are waste.

well i save my shells, im new to guns, only 4 months in, but i have all my brass casings and shotgun shells, but for now i dont plan to reload anything at least for shotguns, a 25 box of 16 and 12ga is like $5-8. Not even worth buying powder and primers and lead for nore wasting the time on

Little tip. Get a piece of wood the same size as the inside of your shell. Drill a small all the way through right in the center. Use a small Phillips or some other rod or punch to knock out the primer. It speeds up the process a lot. A long socket with a short extension works great for setting new primers. I always used a rubber hammer. It crazie how fast loading like this can be after a while. LOL. Thanks for the video and bringing back some great memories of my youth.

An ordinary flat washer inlet into the wood block would give 360° support to the base - help prevent a possible angling bend. Clearance hole bored through the block for spent primers. A 1"x1" flat bar steel inlet likewise would help ensure flush seating of primers. There are potential situations requiring removal of live primers - few I grant - but doing so requires very careful movements. You can remove live primers with very slow and gradually increasing pressure. HOWEVER, in most cases, it's better to simply fire the primer and remove it spent. Tapping the primer into place with a punch and hammer is a safe procedure. Lee Loaders have used this technique for decades. You will hear about the rare occasion of a primer going off during seating from someone who says "it happened to me" - and it can happen (rarely), but those rare instances are more in the nature of scareing someone than causing harm as long as ordinary safety precautions are followed. Using a hodgepodge of cases means that internal volume is going to vary. This isn't an issue if mild to moderate loads are adhered to, but anything approaching maximum loads needs to be worked toward gradually in identical brand cases. A safe load in one case can become an overpressure load in a case with smaller internal volume. But this isn't an issue with mild to moderate loads. As with most things, these kinds of videos should be viewed as instructional for SHTF scenarios, and not as a recommended technique for routine reloading. Black powder is much more forgiving than smokeless. Equal volumes of black powder and shot was referred to as a "square load", or ideal, but adjustments were easily accomodated by the shotguns. If someone wants to use a hodgepodge of cases, they should restrict that activity to using black powder or substitutes as this video is doing. The final compression taps on the lead shot, I would avoid. This will deform the shot and give erratic patterns. Wax works but water glass glue is better - alternatively, Duco hobby cement.

From my point of view why do you remove the wood dowel between decapping and recapping? I don't see you examining the base wad.
@wholeNwon
@wholeNwon 7 жыл бұрын
The primer should be recessed into the shell face. If you're going to do it like you show, you could just hollow out a small spot on the block to accommodate the primed area then wack away as much as you like. I know it's relatively hard to set off a primer but why take the chance? Some shooters will find that shells loaded without resizing the brass first makes them very hard to chamber. That's certainly true in several of my guns.

I use a small piece of wood with a 13/16 hole for the shell & a 3/8 inside that, to hold the shell & tap the primer out..weigh my charge, wad, roll crimp, or just recrimp with needle nose turn the shell upside down & press back together, add a little super glue to help hold it..lots of them look almost factory!! Shotgun primers are nothing to be taken lightly, they are extremely powerful and have an increased potential to cause a in lethal injury. Here's a personal experience I had many years ago. I tossed a live 209 in a metal barbecue, when it detonated it blew the cup clean through the side of the barbeque and then nearly penetrated the metal siding on a mobile home. It also left my ear ringing. Do Not Take Primers with a grain of salt, they can be nasty and are capable of causing serious injury or even death. I knew a guy who blew the tip of his index finger off when one detonated. Don't know exactly what he did that caused the detonation, but does it really matter? I don't think so.

@sj L The ones I pick up are usually fired from Semi-auto shotguns, which most probably are Brownings. I find them where Duck hunters practice shooting clay targets. Usually a name brand semi-auto will have a tighter chamber than my single shot shotgun has, so they really don't expand that much.

Interesting video. I've seen this done where the reloader guy cut off the crimp, but you left yours on. Do they always seat nicely when you put them in the chamber? Also - I like the idea of using a cloth patch rather than an expensive paid for fibre wad. What chance the patch will catch fire and start a forest fire? I tried reloading with a dismantled new shell the other day using PYRODEX instead of the nitro powder. I used them in my side by side and the recoil of firing the first barrel dislodged the over shot card and the damned shot ran out down the barrel.... Not great. maybe your cloth patch would work better, and you certainly have more space to pack it in with leaving teh crimp area on the case.
@TwoFeatherChannel
@TwoFeatherChannel 7 жыл бұрын
I use a Single Shot breakdown barrel shotgun with a 3 inch chamber and the Shells I use are 2.75 inch, that leaves me some room to play with like adding more shot. That's why I don't need to cut off the crimped tops. The Powder burns so fast, the small amount of cotton cloth shouldn't be a problem but if it did I would just stomp it out. Could use Wool, it is naturally Fire and Water resistant.
@Tonyv1951
@Tonyv1951 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. :) I tried pushing some empty cases from mine in and out of the chambers and mostly they go in fine. I'm going to try your method. I had a first try out the other day using a cut down case (crimp off) and a card wad glued in... Worked fine as long as it was the first shot. I use a side by side and with two shells loaded, when one is fired, the card breaks out and the shot in the other barrel runs down the tube.... I need to work on it more. Could be a longer case and some cloth pushed on top of the shot will hold better under recoil.

Thanks for the nice demo. But wouldn't a tong be useful to hold the hull while you reload it? (in the slight chance that gun powder/primer goes off and blows off one's fingers).
@TwoFeatherChannel
@TwoFeatherChannel Жыл бұрын
sure if you live in fear your whole life, then by all means wear a bomb proof suit but I know it takes a lot of force to detonate a primer and had fireworks go off in my hand in the 1960's black powder is what is used in fireworks and to make an explosion it has to be tightly wrapped if you spread out black powder loosely in a pile and light it, all it does is a quick flash of fire, no explosion

hi. I am new to reloading and don't have any of the kit, is it possible just to buy shells with the same weight of shot you want to put in, take out the shot and replace it with your own shot and then crimp it again
@TwoFeatherChannel
@TwoFeatherChannel 7 жыл бұрын
It would be hard to remove the shot from a factory crimped shell without damaging it. I don't think you can crimp a shell without a reloading press. That's why I seal it off with wax.

@@TwoFeatherChannel Is it the roll crimper that bolts to a table? or maybe the fully handheld one?? The same guy sells both. I'm waiting on mine to get here. I got the rolls crimper. I just reprimed 35 shells. I have the pyrodex powder, but no wads or shot yet. I also have a big bag of old bore cleaning cloths. Can I use those as wadding? Right now I can do the six and eight point crimps. So I don't need the wax. Not sure about an overshot card especially as I'll be using 00 buck. But I've seen a huge amount of different ways to reload 12 gauge. I guess I'll have to start a recipe book for them lol The manuals seem way too confusing and the info in them seems to change heavily. Like with the different wads and shell hulls. Also, The ONLY problem I have with my reloading kit is the horseshoe repriming base. the primers scratch the aluminum. I get that it's light weight, but they could rivet in a plate of steel. Or would that be too hard? Anyway, it works great!!!
