The Fieldcraft Survival Pillars of Preparedness are EDC, Mobility, and Homestead (or Safe Home). All of these work together to better prepare each of us for whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. They are tied together by the umbrella of Mindset and sit on a foundation of Community.
In this video, Mike Glover talks about EDC and how what you carry and have access to on your person is integral to the successful planning and execution of any preparedness plan. Through his Special Operations career, he was able to find what worked and what didn't work in terms of kit and tactics.

I get that from some friends and family. They call it being paranoid, until they need tweezers to pull out a splinter while 3 miles in the woods... then I pull out my Swiss army knife, and then an extra pair of gloves. And that's on the easy end of things.

Me and my gf were just talking about last night! Haha I fully agree. If you're inside and see the other person down, clear the house before attempting help. You can't help if you're not situationaly aware and get attacked too.

On the motorcycle I can be first responder. In the USA, if you're not from California, you may not know how well bikes can slip thru stopped traffic I carry a personal kit on leg, TQ guaze scissors etc..and a larger bag on the luggage rack Europeans are used to bikes legally moving thru traffic, Most Americans are not

well done. When I flew medical helicopter ( medevac ) I was amazed how unprepared the med crew I inherited was. They knew nothing of after crash procedures, prep for emergency landing, prep for survival after a forced landing and procedure for evacuating and extracting survivors of our ship. They thought I was trying to scare them by talking about emergency after landing procedures, expectations , situation awareness and keeping track where populated areas were along the way if they had to pick a direction to hike after a landing.

A simple case in point, I just recently traveled to NH. We drove there with no issue utilizing my Bro-in-laws phone for GPS directions. I drove back having never traveled any of the roads that I took back. I have always made a point to carry my tool bag with me on road trips, just to have some basic tools to maybe be able to remedy an issue. On the way back I found a good spot on the dash to prop my phone to follow the route, I had to push it upright into a tray on the dash. While doing that it somehow must have dislodged my SIM card to where my phone was unable to connect the SIM. In my tool bag I just happened to have a paperclip that I use for my work. I popped out the SIM, repositioned it and I was back in business. If not I would have bought a map somewhere. I was prepared by just thinking of bringing my tool bag with me in the first place to be able to fix my SIM issue easily in less than 2 minutes.

Tailoring a kit suitable for my day to day situation, a truck driver in NJ, was difficult. I travel up and down the state, from populous and dangerous Jersey City, to the more rural pine barrens and southern shore coast. Even in your free time in NJ, you can easily go from rural towns to populous cities to dense woods to mountains in a short period of time. Staying prepped in these situations was tough, even more so with a family, but I think I have it figured out.

Those boots are from Buckle...I have the black pair. In comparison to a pair I got from Rocky Boot...I would say that the ones from Buckle are not as comfortable and I wish the soles were thicker. Not enough between the feet and the ground....but they look ok....just won't last long in the elements especially doing any kind of outdoor work. Cheers.

Hey, Mike what happened to the S&W 38? Love the H&K p7 but don't have the bankroll for one so not a knock on it replacing the S&W but honestly when you showed the old .38 revolver as your edc in the bag it earned a lot of respect from me. It is a much more sensible choice for the bag than most modern Glock type pistol which you spoke to in this video. Totally jealous about the P7 btw.
