Ok, here is a comment that is not idiotic!!! 😊( for the people more concerned about their being seen as opposed to commenting about catching!) Catching is a repetition skill. Catch 1000s of balls. Get a tennis ball and just spend time every day rebounding it and catching it. All diffrent speeds and angles etc.. Example= bounce it into the wall and catch the rebound. Stand back and throw it straight at wall catching the rebound. Do it harder and faster as you get better at catching. You start with good technique and as you increase the speed and angles and high balls etc, you will slowly form reactive skills allowing you to instantly react and catch without thinki bout ya technique. As a kid i was sport obsessed, so when no friends were around to play i would throw at the wall making my own games whilst unconsciously gaining my super fast reaction time. I was also lucky enough to have some big backyards so when bored and alone i would set 3 or 4 individual stumps at diffrent spots and literally just spend hours throwing at a stump then sprinting as fast as possible and practicing gathering the ball and throwing down the stump. It was a constant game, no stopping, just throw as soon as the ball was gathred as if i was trying to affect a tight run out. As soon as i released the ball, and i always chose the stump as i was running to gather. The ball would bounce off fences and watever else was floating around. I dive threw, i jumped and threw at pace in the opposite direction i was running and so on... Trying to emulate my heros of the time, steve waughs, dean jones, odonnell, AB... mostly steve as he was the all rounder and one day cricket was worshipped in the mid 80s. Nearing 50 now and still playing indoor cricket its these skills which still help me to be competitive with the teenage players . Mite be slowing down a bit but i rarely drop catches, however hard theyre hit in such a enclosed playing area. I still value those early games for allowing my throws to hit from anywhere. If your still young enough then utilise the techniques these boys are showing but make sure you drill the catching skills into your head by repetition repetition repetition!!!
