Tim Pilbeam has a new toy - and he tries it out on fallow deer. Swarovski has brought out a new super-scope. The dS Gen II does a lot of the heavy lifting for deerstalkers and other hunters. It provides you with the data you need to make the show, plus it even superimposes a second, red reticle in your scope for long shots.

Why shoot deer?
There are more than two million red, roe, fallow, sika, muntjac and Chinese water deer in Britain’s countryside and semi-urban areas, the highest level for 1,000 years. Numbers have doubled since 1999, according to the Deer Initiative, the UK government’s deer agency.
Deer are an attractive and an important part of our wildlife. However, they have no natural predator in the UK so numbers must be sensibly and strategically managed to keep them in balance with their habitat and to prevent damage to crops, trees, woodland flora, gardens and other wildlife.
Deer cause £4.5 million-worth (Forestry Commission Scotland) of damage to plantations and other commercial woodlands in Scotland. Crop damage is estimated at £4.3m a year according to DEFRA, with the greatest damage on cereal crops in east and south-west England.
More than 8,000 hectares (Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology) of woodland with SSI status is currently in ‘unfavourable’ or ‘recovering’ condition due to deer impacts such as browsing and fraying. Deer can also influence the variety of wildlife in woodlands and other habitats by altering structural and plant species diversity. According to the University of East Anglia’s Dr Paul Dolman, that has resulted in a 50% decline in woodland bird numbers where deer are present, impacting particularly on nightingales, blackcaps, chiffchaffs and warblers.
Deer are susceptible to Bovine TB and may be responsible for the transmission of TB to cattle. They are also the likely driver behind the UK’s increasing tick population (Scharlemann et al 2008).
Happily, venison is a delicious meat. It is wild, natural and free range, and - almost fat-free - it is one of the healthiest meats available today. Results from research commissioned by the Game-to-Eat campaign (Leatherhead Food International Research 2006) suggest that there are real health benefits to eating game. Venison is high in protein, low in saturated fatty acids and contains higher levels of iron than any other red meat.
We’re proud to promote enjoyment of fieldsports and the countryside. There are three guiding principles to everything we do on Fieldsports Channel:
▶ Shoot responsibly
▶ Respect the quarry
▶ Ensure a humane, clean and quick kill

I am from Germany which is similar to Austria, there were always good engineers, the first in big numbers produced riflescope for hunters was a Kahles 4x produced in Vienna mounted on the legendary Mannlicher Schönauer Stutzen Mod 1903. A roedeer at 100m fills the space between the horizontal parts of „Absehen 1“ of a 6x riflescope - at 200 m half of it. So ist is not a big thing to estimate the distance. There are copper bullets 3 Band Classic made by „Labor für Ballistik“ with very high muzzle velocity (.275 Rigby 945m/s) so there is no need for mathematics because of very flat trajectory even when using non magnum cartrigdes. Very good shooting at these distances over a shooting stick I think. Nice video thank you very much.

Hello, One month ago I have buy ds 5-25x52 ds gen II. I`m really happy with riflescope on day time. But in evening and dark time this riflescope is not possible to use. Evening time visibility unsatisfactory! Swarovski didn`t give information for customer about this. It not possible to use clip-on front devices, because not possible to use distance measuring. Rear clip-on devices also not possible to use, because can`t to see infrared flashlight through riflescope .

@@Gongolongo yes but why kill an adolescent deer rather than a larger deer who’s nearing the end of its maturity. I completely agree with hunting but this goes against conservation and normal hunting principles

@@amackie1474 never orphan a calf/ fawn. Always shoot the calf then the hind. Often hind goes off the. Fine if th calf goes then you have to go and find it. When you have a hind and calf always take the calf. That is the proper conservation and and welfare decision.
@longlowdog
@longlowdog Жыл бұрын
@@amackie1474 no it doesn't. Taking the calf leaves a deer that is capable of fending for itself. Taking the doe would leave a naive animal to fend for itself. How do you know the doe was 'nearing the end of its maturity'?

I have the similar burris eliminator mk2. It's great on a 22 or 17hmr vs rabbits as you are dealing with much drop and small targets, but why on earth against deer? You wouldn't even begin to need this until at least 250m and then it's just deer sniping rather than hunting.

Careful buyers, check parks and wildlife laws where you intend to hunt! A friend pointed out and I confirmed and copied verbatim as of May 2020, Colorado Parks Wildlife CPW Chapter W-0 General Provisions for hunting, Article iv, Manner in taking wildlife > Aids in taking... "Smart-Rifles" 1. All firearms used to take or attempt to take wildlife shall be fired only by humanly controlled, manually-operated mechanical triggers. No person shall use a smart rifle to take or attempt to take wildlife. 2. “Smart Rifle” means any firearm that is equipped with one or more of the following: a. A target tracking system; b. An electronically-controlled, electronically-assisted, or computer-linked trigger; c. A ballistics computer. Apparently this isn't the only state that has a similar law. Without checking, getting a $5k scope confiscated or dealing with loss of hunting license isn't worth it. I would like to see this be exempt for disabled hunters though. I guess at what point or where do you draw the line with technology. Advance far enough and you want the gun to hold itself upright and fire "automatically" when it see an animal?? This scope definatley has a place, but I'm not sure if I want something taking or reducing the challenge, experience, or gratification out of a hunt. Maybe if I'm in my 70's and want what I already do to be way easier lol.
