Why shoot wild boar?
Most of continental Europe has a wild boar problem. There are millions of animals causing possibly billions of euros of damage to farmland. Happily, there is a control system, based on sport hunting. In some countries, where sport hunters do not manage numbers effectively, they have to pay reparations to farmers.
Wild boar are omnivorous and approximately 400 species of plants and animals have been reported to be part of their diet. Their habit of rooting through the floor of woodland and pasture leaves a clear indicator of their presence. They take both eggs and nestlings of ground-nesting birds. Damage to agriculture can also be extensive and concerns have been raised regarding collisions with traffic. Boar have no natural predators apart from small populations of wolves, meaning culls are necessary to control population growth.
Wild boar are susceptible to the same diseases as domestic pigs and therefore have the potential to spread infectious disease such as swine fever, foot & mouth and Aujesky’s disease.

Way to go Setrgio! Couldn't imagine this for you when I first talked to you several years ago when you started to make videos about your roe deer hunting back in Scotland. I'm really happy for you because of what you have accomplished.

I really want to try driven boar hunting for a change. Here in Texas we either are in blinds in crop fields or setting out corn or just stalking them. We do use dogs sometimes but it's usually just a few and the dog handler is the only one with a gun. With dogs once the dogs have them in place we use spears or big knives. But most of time we see them doing other things around the properties and shoot them as we see them. Of course there is hunting via helicopter which is always fun. Down here I usually use an AR15. I used to use a sig 556r which is a 7.62x39 but am faster with follow up shots with an AR. But down here it's all about getting as many as you can. So there is usually at least four of us with AR's or other semiautomatic rifles and some with night vision. They cause so much damage. With all the hunting and trapping we barely put a dent in the population. You want a fun time come try the helicopter hunt!

Excellent with Paul in Portugal. I had been hoping for some boar hunting and was well served. Great stuff. I hope David had his Kevlar lined undies on as that looked a bit full on.

12:02 "and then everything goes to Spain..." OMG, that must be some crazy eurocratic bullshit law and regulations. How on earth the boars can not be processed locally in Portugal? It is easy and tasty, so why not to process that on a backyard of a restaurant and serve to the guests (after checking for trichinella, etc, of course). ASF is to blame? I think it's just EU.
