it seems I’ve missed a couple entries on the iceberg. here you have my explanations. -USA vs England 1950: it was the match I talked about in the “Joe Gaetjens” entry at the bottom level of the chart. It is regarded as an historic clash for both national teams. England views it as a stain to their pride because they were beaten by a team of amateurs; on the other hand for the US it was their biggest win ever. -India 1950: the Indian national team had qualified for the Brazilian World Cup in 1950, but they were later forced to withdraw claiming the costs for the trip were too high for their federation. Many believe the real reason to be the ban that FIFA put to playing barefoot (the Indians did it at the 1948 Olympics). -Iran vs Bahrain WCQ 2001: was an infamous match that saw Bahrain win 3-1 by wasting time, playing dirty, and, most notably, after the final whistle their fans were spotted raising flags of Saudi Arabia.

In 1974, hosts West Germany refused to play Poland on a field with proper conditions in what was essentially a semifinal. They were the top 2 teams in the group going into the last day of the second group phase and Poland had a much stronger passing style of play that was severely limited by a recent rainstorm over the field. Poland asked for the game to be moved to a pitch with standard conditions, but the West Germans refused in order to limit their opponent's superior talent.

The main problem in the 1966 WC wasnt that goal. The referees of the marches uruguay vs germany and Argentina vs england were choosen two days before the matches in a meeting betwen german and english officials. The uruguayans and argentinians were invited to the "oficial" Meeting one day after. But the meeting was down. They had already chosen the referees. A german for england vs Argentina and a inglish for uruguay vs Germány. Both referees helped A LOT the european nation. Thats why 1966 was rigged a conplete robbery made by the queen

A few others I can think of: Romania 1998 with their squad having bleached hair France having to borrow a local team's kit against Hungary in 1978 North Korea registering a striker in one of their three goalkeeper places in 2010 The curse on Australia and why they didn't qualify between 1978 and 2002 Chile v USSR in 1974 qualifying

23:31 To be added for that Serbia & Montenegro team. The reason why they ranked as the worst team in the tournament is pretty shocking even with the Montenegro's independence declaration thing, as there was only one Montenegrin in that squad. The S&M was considered as one of the strongest team prior of the tournament as they conceded for only one goal in the entire 10 qualifiers. This is even more impressive considering they won a group above a contender Spain. Unfortunately their defence crumbled due to injuries and everything collapsed not long after.

1966 was definitely fixed. England were supposed to play Portugal in Liverpool for the semi-final but the match was switched to Wembley last minute, meaning the Portuguese team had to spend the night on a bus from Liverpool to London where they got 3 or 4 hours of sleep the day before the match. Absolutely despicable and it's the reason why I hope England never even comes close to a title again. They have ONE major title and it has been proven over and over to be a robbery.

32:41 important to note, this was done by a famous brazilian influencer who's known for trollings such as these. He fabricated all of this to see how far his lies could go and was shocked when big media vehicles started to share the videos. He eventually got a letter from the North Korean embassy after he revealed the truth, claiming that they actually found it funny but, if anything, that proved how terrible western media can be

Ricky Martin's "Cup of Life" for the France '98 World Cup is the most notable and most superior of all. It was played even after the world cup and it's been used for tournaments of other sports. It also has the most "football" vibe to it.

11:35 Klose goal record is suddenly in some danger after Mbappe's 8 goal haul this year He currently has 12, and will be just entering his prime in 2026. He will also be playing in a team which is almost certain to be a strong contender for the World Cup that year. It is not unreasonable to expect it to be broken in 2026. He then could realistically play 2 more World Cups AFTER 2026. Mbappe's inevitable World Cup goals record will be untouchable for several generations.

after 2014, I was positive Thomas Müller would’ve been the one to break the record (he had 10 goals in just two world cups). but then Germany did what it did and he scored 0 goals in 2018 and 2022.

@@francescobilleci Certainly nothing is certain until it's done. But I would bet today on Mbappe breaking Klose's goal total next world cup. And if I had to guess, I suspect he will end up with a ridiculous 30 World Cup goals. He is going to put that total completely out of reach.

The Andres Escobar incident should be much higher on the iceberg (at least up to layer 4; below the surface) due to how wildly controversial that incident was along with the amount of pres coverage that story got. 2. I'm also a bit surprised that a few entries such as the Ronaldo Wink incident and Jimmy Jump weren't included on the iceberg as well.

There was one Thing that they forgot to add. “The Football War” also known as the Hundred Hours' War or 100 Hour War, It was a brief military conflict fought between El Salvador and Honduras in 1969. Existing tensions between the two countries coincided with rioting during a 1970 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

I know Luis Suarez has an entry for what he did to Ghana, but he should have another for "the bite of Luis Suarez": during the 2014 World Cup, he bit Italy's player Giorgio Chiellini in the shoulder (yet, he was not sanctioned for it despite leaving a mark). It was not the first time either, but the 3° time. After that, he was put in obligatory psychiatric treatment for his anger issues.

There's also the Argentina vs England match were an Argentine player got randomly expulsed, and the England vs Portugal one, where out of nowhere they changed where the match would be, so that the Portuguese players would get tired and less prepared because they had to travel and arrive just at time for the match.
