As a former truck driver I always emphasize to new folks that are just starting out pulling a trailer for the first time, your not so much driving a truck as you are guiding a trailer. Always be aware that your truck is a tool to guide your trailer.

Good checklist before taking off; we 100% didn't check for windows once when we took off... got to our next destination and were missing a window on the fifth wheel 😅 . Great visual aids with the tail swing bit 👌 . Hahaha, those dogs are lawless little beasts--they will not be held down by frivolous things such as seat belts!! Great video, guys; even had some great reminders for those of us who have been doing it for a bit! -Keith and Raini

Great video guys! This is the first time I’ve seen one of your videos. I’m surprised that you’re able to pull the toy hauler with your 2500. I couldn’t tell if you have the Cummins or the Hemi. We had a 2500 5.7 Hemi and it couldn’t pull our fifth wheel. It struggled badly so we ended up getting a Ram 3500 dually with the Cummins and it can easily pull our 14,000lb rig. If yours can do it that’s awesome. Have fun and be safe!

Great video. I’ll add that even if your truck, motorhome or whatever can go 120 mph, that doesn’t mean you should. Trailer tires have tops speeds they don’t want you to exceed. Many are 65mph. I currently pull a small 20’ travel trailer and when I’m on an interstate I don’t go over 62 mph. It’s much safer to go slower. The 18 wheelers have “truck speeds” and in my opinion, we should go a bit slower than even they do.
@AdventureEndeavor
@AdventureEndeavor 3 жыл бұрын
Yes we agree! We tend to drive pretty slow in general.

As a heavy haul driver I would add this comment. There is nothing you do fast in a big rig. You don’t speed up fast, you don’t slow down fast, you don’t make any sudden movements. Take your turns slow, you have more control on your position in the turn.

I didn't realize how inconsiderate most driver's are until I started towing and I had to somewhat rely on other driver's not to be stupid. It still amazes me how many people will cut us off, turn without signaling, weave in and out, etc. Those are things that in a normal vehicle are annoyances but things you can still safely avoid or maneuver around. But, when you're towing there's less margin for error. A few months ago we got brake-checked by some jackwagon in a Mercedes because he wasn't happy with our pace. Like, you're really a special kind of stupid to do that.
@AdventureEndeavor
@AdventureEndeavor 3 жыл бұрын
Yes we totally agree. It's almost like to get your licence you should have to tow something larger to understand the stopping and turning capability. Thanks you watching. Hopefully you enjoyed the video.👍

Do you have any recommendations for Trucker/RV GPS apps? We didn't think about height clearance until we drove to Maine from Maryland and got lost in NYC because we had to get off an exit at the last minute to avoid a low 10'6 inch bridge. We downloaded an app (and I can't remember which one, now) that allowed us to put in our height, axels, weight, etc and find the best route. It was a 45 minute detour to get us back to 95 safely. I remember having to pay like $20 for that first month using the app.
@AdventureEndeavor
@AdventureEndeavor 3 жыл бұрын
Garmin makes an RV GPS. Copilot is decent, RV parky shows bridges but you'll have to check your route b4 you take off.

I have a 2004 ram 2500 with the 5.9 24v Cummins looking to get into full time rving. My wife and I love the lay out of the carbon in the shortest model. Do you think I could pull it safely in my truck?
