In the novel, the main character often correlates his fame to his fans spending a lot of money on him and the group, and he feels guilty about it. When it came to dating rumors, one of the members (who is a foreigner) didn't understand what is the big deal about dating, and others explained that "our fans consider us their boyfriends". It got me thinking, that Korean idol fans learned to have certain expectations from idols because they spend a lot of money to support them. And because it is never discouraged, it persists. I think about it every time I hear someone say "s/he should work, instead of dating". They're probably thinking their money is paying for their dates. 🙄
