@@garbomode29I really don’t get the whole ‘Rat Grinders are redeemable’ angle. Like, they’re not on the same level as Aelwyn or Ragh once was, they’re straight-up henchmen for the Big Bad. They’re not useful idiots, at this point they’re co-conspirators. They slaughtered the only member of the party who has any redeeming qualities (young Ruben doesn’t get a pass, child stars almost always turn out to be awful people). They’ve tried to murder their whole town. Just let them be evil and get killed in cartoonishly righteous fashion.

Because the Alamo was mentioned, the true story was simple: Texas was a contested region that was difficult to populate thanks to it's aridity and consistent raids by tribes in the northern borders. Mexico opened those borders for American immigrants to settle, and they flooded in. Over time, there was a push for the U.S. to annex the region. Then Mexico banned slavery, and the American settlers were outraged and ignored the new laws while calling for Texas to secede from Mexico. After a Mexican dictator took control, there was a series of violent raids on Texas outposts and by Mexican militaries trying to take control of the situation. While refusing to leave the Alamo, James Bowie and Davey Crockett sent requests for the U.S. to aid them, but the requests were denied as it would be placing the American military into Mexican territory, and would be a blatant act of war. The U.S. government suggested that they surrender immediately. Instead, they refused to leave and it was basically a massacre. TL;DR: Mexico let white people in. White people refused to end slavery. A bunch of them holed up in a fort and tried to start the Mexican-American War 10 years early; Died.

The candy/food stuff is probably Crown of Candy, a campaign of serious political intrigue and deadly "make the players and audience cry" type violence heavily inspired by Game of Thrones. And because it's Dimension 20, it's skinned over with all the kingdoms being cartoon embodiments of different types of food with the protagonists originating from the candy kingdom (which is sort of like The North in that the royal house is set up for a sucker punch style fall fairly early). Because it's actually even worse when you cry about injuries/death/betrayal/loss involving characters like talking chocolate bunnies, peppermints, cotton candy, ice cream cones, or anthropomorphic licorice. It's also very funny, but you *will* cry.

Dude it was an amazing bit of role-play, as a dm it always feels amazing when one of your npc's can pull some amazing rp moment from your players, it doesnt happen all the time but sometimes you get the storytelling just right where for a moment you can see the player really channeling their character, those moments are some of the most memorable and are one of the things that keep me coming back to this game after 30+ years.

The whole season she was doing shenanigans that still ended up having to fight the guy, so she’s pissed and feels like she wasted so much RP time on Ruben. She was super clever with a lot of it throughout the season but it didn’t really amount to a different outcome like she was hoping.
