Nice pen for your 100th review! ditto on all the other's congratulations -- and I hope you create many more. Like David L., I'll never own and will probably never actually hold such a pen, but I quite enjoy your enjoyment of it. Watching your review of it is somewhat akin to visiting a high-end museum of art. Functional art. I can, at least, do that much. :D THANKS

I sure wish I had $1300 to lay down for this pen! It's a stunner. Your review really showed off the shading of the Urushii. I love the shape of it as well. I'd get it with a BB nib,, myself.

Wonderful review. It may be old, but still informative. The Dorsal Fin v2 is one of my Grail pens and I finally have one on back order though the Heki-Tamenuri color combination.

A Nakaya is on my list. I don't really care for the Dorsal Fin (sorry), but the Decapod Twist is what I'm looking at. I'm saving for it by not buying other pens. Last time I saved for a Nakaya, I got there and couldn't bring myself to spend the money. It may happen again, but videos like yours are going to make it difficult to not buy it. You really did justice to the artistry and beauty that goes into these pens. The edges, as you say, are exactly why I love the looks of the Decapod Twist. This would definitely be a pen that would never leave the house!

NAKAYA. NAH-KAH-YAH. See all those "a's?" They're all pronounced the same. Now... to watch the rest of your review of my favorite pen brand. (Had to get the pronunciation out of the way.) EDIT: I'm about half-way through, and your review reinforces why I appreciate my Piccolos so much. The pens are individually made, and when you think about it... the price isn't so crazy when compared to major pen brands' flagship pens. The other reason I love Nakaya pens so much is the urushi, the tamenuri finishes--gorgeous. (My dirty little secret is that my favorite nib is a Pilot PO.)

feanaaro....the uploader gets criticized for everything from his pronounciation to the way he writes and i think it's really pathetic that you guys completely ignore the fact that he puts a lot of effort into making these videos as professional and as detailed as possible it's jackasses like you and loser miyako that actually think you're paying david's salary seriously, if you used the word cromulent in real life you'd get your ass kicked or at the very least you'd be laughed out of the room but you're probably going to comeback and say "but i own a visconti opera master london fog so respect me yeah!"

The most expensive pen I own was about $170, so no Opera Master for me. To me, you seem entirely misguided in your rage, but to each one their own I guess.

P.S. The Dorsal Fin 2 is gorgeous. The aka-tamenuri is gorgeous. And I can attest that these pens are robust. I haven't broken one yet. (I haven't tried, but I've been clumsy, and so far, so good. I've been pleasantly surprised. And relieved. Although, I have heard of at least one person whose pen rolled off a table and the cap broke. Because each pen is handmade, a new cap wasn't an option, but Nakaya fixed the cap and wrapped it with string, and the owner was more pleased with the pen after that.)

Thanks, Anzan. I can't speak for everyone, but I very much appreciate knowing the proper pronunciation on these things. Without your help (and others) I would absolutely butcher it. That said, it never bothers me if/when a reviewer struggles with the pronunciations (and I appreciate folks like David who are honest in their attempts!) -- let's just say that I understand the quandary! Besides, your comments are always friendly ones!

It reminds me of a Canoe. I love how it looks. But seeing how carefull I am with my MontBlanc 149, I would be too carefull with this one to actually use it.

My grail pen is a Decapod Twist, but I’ve always wondered if the step on it would be too steep for me. I found the VAC700’s step to be too uncomfortable to use, and wondered what the step on the decapod twist is like in terms of how steep it is and how it’s positioned on the pen.

The step-down on the Decapod Twist is slightly more than that of the Vac700. I personally find the section to be long enough that I don't rest my fingers on the transition...but your mileage may vary.

Hi david, I subscribed to your channel recently and have been binge watching your videos. Did you order your pen from www.nakaya.org/en/order_form.aspx ? It looks like even the dorsonfin 1 is not available. A question I have is that when you ordered, do they allow nibs adjustment requests like wetness etc? I bought a 3776 UEF that is too dry writing and ended up having to adjust it, but I don't want to test my luck on such an expensive pen. Thanks

While I generally prefer pilot and sailor to platinum, Nakaya really blows them all out of the water when it comes to higher end pens. And while Namiki is very good, I prefer the interesting ways that Nakaya works with Urushi over Namiki's signature Maki-e.

The socks with slippers is very common in traditional japanese wear. You'll see it all the time if you go to Japan and I think it looks good. Sometimes a lot better than seeing someones nasty corned feet and nails.

I'm not sure who told you it was pronounced Na-ki-ya, but the correct pronunciation is na-ka-ya.

Yeah the pen is nice, but the Nib is a cheapo and the platinum converter with few painted fishes XDXDXDXD a complete turn of. Sorry just my opinion.
