Floyd was always more exciting when trained by his Uncle Roger!When his Dad trained him he was safety first&virtually unbeatable.What he had over every other fighter was perfect balance!That's what made him great.
@mattg35377 жыл бұрын
I think that something FMJ carried with him to the end of his career, but especially here with this version of FMJ, was his ability to implement HIS game plan (whatever it may be) he threw static out there to his opponents mentally and physically and they always were taken into another realm that they were uncomfortable with. He made them second guess themselves which then in turn made them forget about the man in front of them. I think this fight was such a turning point for FMJ he was forced to adapt his style as he was dealing with injuries and it kind of gave a glimpse of the later stage of Floyd's career, more composed, cautious, and efficient because he kind of took a lot of risks in this one i because i don't think he realized he was up against a guy who (although his record doesn't show it) was a real monster in the ring. And i think Floyd took notice to that and started to fight off the back foot more and more through this one. A lot of people forget or haven't seen PRETTY BOY Floyd, but whenever anyone talks about Mayweather that's who i think of. He had the speed as well as the power, he had the movement as well as the heart he came forward when necessary and could fight off the back foot just as well a real frustrating opponent and a true talent. THIS was the Floyd that allowed the foundation for him to become MONEY May.

Notice how Emmanuel consistently stayed at the same semi clinch range while Floyd is trying to back away. The more Floyd goes back, the more Emmanuel quickly advances forward to stay in his semi clinch range where Floyd can't throw fast jabs. Floyd has a very good balance though, he just knows how much power he throws in his punch without going off his feet.

Mayweathers hands have been fragile for a long long time. I think it started around this time and just got worst. He is clearly complaining of his right hand and almost fights this guy exclusively with the left in the later rounds. You never really hear him complain though unless your watching his all-access shows where he is always tending to them.

After EVERY fight Floyd congratulates his opponent no matter how much trash talking he does before. Against Guerrero Floyd Sr was antagonizing Guerrero's camp but Jr stopped him, told him to show more sportsmanship. Against Ortiz, however, it was different. Ortiz threw sportsmanship out the window with obvious, deliberate, and ILLEGAL head-butts. Floyd responded with a legal, yet admittedly unsportsmanlike, KO punch. Two disappointing actions; the initial one illegal, the response was legal.

Comparing Emmanual Augustus's fighting style to Pacquiao's is like comparing an asteroid to a planters peanut. They fight nothing alike, one is long, off rhythmic, and awkward while the other is short, lateral bouncing, and quick albeit with a tendency to get countered. It's difficult to tell what Burton is really capable of because sometimes he's business and other times he's fighting in his own little world. Most of Burton's punches I keep telling myself I've seen before, and I'm wondering why his kind of punches look so familiar, and then I remember they're the kind of punches you'd see from a sparring partner. No disrespect to Burton but he threw too many punches that had no intent at all, lol. Burton threw too many punches as if that's what he was supposed to do, know what I mean? Kind of going through the motions.
@abbeykroeter9 жыл бұрын
Was totally thinking the same thing. It's too bad because I see other athletes like this that have some natural talent, and are unorthodox, and not even as successful as Burton (Augustus?). I coached wrestling for many years and once in a while I would get some kid on the team that had unusual balance and the ability to know where he was positioned before during and after some entangled fast scramble. That's hard to teach, and sometimes impossible to teach. But usually the kids gifted with it were rare AND they didn't seem to know if they worked on it they would really be hard to beat. They almost always have a strange personality to go with it and it's a challenge. One guy that is like that who actually never stopped working on it is Ben Askren. He isn't immortal and has had some losses, but if you look up his matches in college he was a master of the scramble... A.K.A. "unorthodox" and improvising all kinds of funky moves. IT doesn't eve look like he should have come out on top in some of the matches. This Burton dude is now one of my favorites... though he doesn't try to hit that hard, and didn't have a great record, I'm a fan for sure.
@crawlFace9 жыл бұрын
abbeykroeter Great point about such skills being related to a fighter's personality. From my experience I think you explain it well because many of these gifted kids and adults can be quite an enigma. I haven't spent much recent time checking out mixed martial artists I am not familiar with. I follow some of the bigger names I remember from years ago but there are heaps of newer guys I am unfamiliar with. I'm going to take a look at Ben Askren.
