It would be fascinating to see how some striking being involved would alter the dynamic of both the sword play and the grappling. Just going from memory the only strikes I recall in the various manuals are simple straight punches and front kicks, but that is still plenty to work with I would think.

I think some of those kicks would make a HUGE difference if thrown with bad intentions. The up kick that caught the face looks goofy but would REALLY hurt and potentially change the flow of the exchange.

Catching an up kick to the face is such a bad time 😅😅😅

Why do you think they have that much higher of a chance for injury?

@@diomedes39 kicks are an inheriently brutal and forceful action same reason you don't see a lot people throwing hard punches and headbutts in grapples, they carry a lot of weight and can put you off balance if done incorrectly and falling wrong is a major cause of injury in HEMA more so than getting hit with a sword. if both people are trained to use kicks or expecting them its not to bad but from what I've seen most clubs dont train to use kicks in there grapples. plus if you miss a kick or you put your weight in the the wrong spot it can cause some real harm, for instance if you go to push kick someone in the stomach area for a descending cut to the head and you slip and put all the weight of your kick into there knee its gonna cause some damage. all in all they can work they do work just a bit more risky.
