If Duran had the harder punch how is it that Jones knocked him down and stopped?

He is not the only opponent who said that. They say Duran had “hands of stone” for a reason.
@jrsanti
@jrsanti 3 жыл бұрын
websalsero who knows if he wraps his hands with concrete. They don’t send a rep of the other side during hand wrapping in his time. Sugar ray said, it feel like he got hit with a brick when Duran hits him. With a boxing glove, that should raise suspicion. Besides, it takes more force to knock someone out. If you feel the punch, it means you’re still conscious enough to feel it. Even if you get hit with a sledge hammer on your head and get knocked out. If you survive, I don’t think you will remember how hard you got hit.

Really humble of him to acknowledge Duran was past his prime. Not many fighters would acknowledge beating an old man. That comment alone earned him my respect.

Most of Duran’s hits came from spots nobody could see and his dipping lower body movement combined with his sideways entry mad energy his rotation from the hips functional in his style. Then add Duran should have been at 180.

He’s not taking anything away from Jones. Jones has power, no doubt. It was Jones speed that ultimately killed Paz; because he couldn’t see those hard shots coming. But I’ve seen Duran hit the heavy bag, even at an older age; and his shots had a very deep penetrating power. But even with that, you still need speed to catch your opponent with it.

Jose Barrera Not all punches feel the same. Some punches are a lightning fast pop (which really hurt like hell). Some are a heavy deep thud that moves your feet from place. I used to box; and I’ve sparred with various weight classes. No doubt, you can feel the heavier frames from the bigger guys. And they can hurt you. But the hardest I was ever hit was from someone who fought as a lightweight. He hit me so hard that I felt it down my spine to the point I thought my disc would slip out of place in my neck. Scared the he’ll out of me, where I knew I had to get rid of him. The ironic thing is that I knocked him out about a minute later. Nobody had a clue he hurt me that bad. He could’ve knocked me out cold; and I was glad he was out of there.

The Paz lived in Rhode Island. Don't know if still does. But back in the 90's I lived in Massachusetts and driving through Rhode Island on highway 95 any restaurant I ever stopped in passing through had an autographed picture of the Paz. Of course it is a small state but the Paz got around.

Really glad to see a guy that fought as hard as him has very little CTE or speech problems. Vinny is blessed that after such a long career he still has his health and he's still sharp. Even Sugar Ray is showing speech problems nowadays.

Delltah. And I saw the opposite. Pazienza sounds like he's 75 years old. If anyone has dementia pugilistica, it's a guy like him, who fought with his face, taking one heavy shot after another.

Nice to see Vinny so calm. If he only had more punching power, he would be one of the all-time greats. He was fearless, well conditioned and a tremendous volume puncher, rock jaw . Just lacked real ko power. Awesome fighter though.

Vinny fought Roberto Duran well past Duran's prime. Roy Jones and Vinny fought at a time when both were in their primes. Roy dominated Vinny, and soundly defeated Vinny. I am sorry for Vinny's injuries and so happy that he recovered. Vinny was a capable and noteworthy boxer but would have been no match for Roberto Duran in Roberto's prime, as Vinny was no match for Roy Jones, or for Hector "Macho" Camacho, in their respective primes.
