Conflict in Hodeida, Yemen forced 13-year-old Emtinan and her brother to miss an entire year of school. "I had nothing to do when I sat home. I felt as if we were in the darkness," she recalls. Now she's back in the classroom, struggling to pick up where she left off.
"Children are the first victims of war," says Abdulsalam Al-Hanash, principal of Al-Wahdah School in Marib, Yemen. "It has impacted their psychological well-being."
Yemen's civil war is threatening the future of an entire generation. UNICEF is working with partners to ensure that children in Yemen receive the quality education they need to reach their full potential.
