'Fighting for old Charlie' is a traditional Cavalier song for the English Civil War. It praises the King and his cause, encouraging loyalty and devotion to his leadership. The lyrics show the Royalists as valiant and noble defenders of the monarchy.

Not at all. The death of Charles and the decade of the English Commonwealth is what kept Britain a monarchy. It's the reason why we didn't have a revolution in the 19th century, unlike basically everyone else

@@moraesneto9508 I first fought for democracy and common wealth. I first wanted Charles to be the king, but under some restrictions to prevent him from becoming a tyrant again. Unfortunately, he was not willing to cooperate even after being defeated twice. He prefered staying a tyrant and even tried to call foreign armies to help him with that. When painful decisions had to be made and cruel neccesities fullfiled, I (unlike some) did not resign. I did not return to the warmth of my welcoming home in Huntingdon. I had a country to save from 4th civil war and I decided not to betray it. I never wanted to become the Lord Protector. I had to for England.
