Here we are, the Orochi Saga. The first of the King of Fighters Sagas, the one that sets the ground for everything to come after. The Debut of many classic fighting game characters such as Kyo Kusanagi & Iori Yagami, it all starts here. There is many characters throughout all the Orochi Saga but this video will be covering the main plotline otherwise it'd be 6 hours long.

Ideally the NESTS and Ash Crimson saga videos are both up and live before the King of Fighters XV launches. Give me a few weeks for each one. Other than that still in quebec over the holidays so the channel will probably be a bit slower in terms of video output until I get back around mid january. Hey, sorry I made you wait so long for this one but its finally here, The Orochi Saga for the King of Fighters broken down in full! From the dawn of creation, to the King of Fighters 97, this spans quite a series of time! Timestamps are in the video but you should probably watch it start to finish so you know whats going on. This is the first of the 3 KoF Sagas, with the 4th currently ongoing starting with KoF 14, and you can expect the other sagas covered in similar depth over time. Just one small correction, Gaia is the will of the earth and Orochi is basically a servant of that will. Idk where but I think somewhere it was said that Orochi is doing what it thinks will please Gaia but it isn’t necessarily so that Gaia wants humanity out of the picture.

KoF 96 was planned by Chizuru Kagura, for non-evil reasons. Goenitz just showed up because he thought that he could rid himself of the sacred treasures for his Lord Orochi.

Leona is also sorta important in the Orochi saga, at least as a side story. Although I suppose all the important parts of her story were explained in your KOF XV Leona analysis video.

The idea is to cover the "A" plot. Leona is a very small fraction of the side of the orochi stuff. I thought about it but if I made exceptions for her then I have to start making exceptions for other characters. Video already long enough as it is so I had to make the call somewhere.

@@juanca2567 it's a mechanic that was there until 98, basically if you're stunned and close to your team in the background, press ABC and they'll jump in to help you out

@@juanca2567 yeah it's because in 99 they just stopped having the rest of your team hanging out in the background. Kinda wish it would come back without the assist part, was cool seeing them react to the match.

Giving the Kof sagas some justice! I'm really glad you are taking care of these roofle, every individual video was very insightful and cover a lot so I know these will be great, too My only addition would be about Leona's riot of the blood, not just because it happens but because her father was one of those Orochi gang similar to Goenitz/Mature/Vice/new faces (the Hakkesshu) so it comes from that side of the plot, but also get it that it can be as one of those separated story bits from the main one (I was surprised by how close to the main events the ikari warriors tend to be everytime)

Thanks for making the video, I really enjoyed it. If SNK could only have a big enough budget to at least make an Anime about this Franchise, it would be great. Or even more have the production quality of NRS with the MK & Injustice Story Mode. KOF has the best story/lore in Fighting Games in my opinion. Just wish SNK had more money to really tell it.

Nice video, it's always fun to relive the Orochi Saga. Some important details that I noticed were missing and might be important for XV: * Yashiro commits suicide after killing Shermie for the last bit of energy but even so, Orochi doesn't resurrect at full power and that's why it was beaten. We still don't know what final-form Orochi looks like. * Leona's father Gaidel was a pureblood hakkeshu (unlike Iori) and that's why she can also enter the Riot of the Blood. Even though she can tap into that power at will nowadays, things might go south again for her with the seal broken. * Yamazaki is also a hakkeshu and apparently he's gonna be in XV (though we still don't know if he's playing a part in the plot).

I was under the impression that it was established that KOF is in a separate continuity from AOF/FF/etc. and that's why the AOF crew was the same age in the AOF games as they are in KOF even though AOF took place in the 70's and why Geese is alive in KOF even though he's dead (like three times over) in FF. Does anyone else remember seeing that or did I just make it up to make myself feel better?

Basically they are all the same timeline until stuff conflicts, then they aren't anymore. Like geese is dead in fatal fury but alive in KoF cause he used the scrolls in kof but not in FF. If it conflicts then KoF wins out, if theres no conflict then don't worry about it is basically how it is.

AOF and FF are "semi"- alternate timelines, KOF sort of rebooted them so everyone is closer in age.

There's a sort of a tacit retcon in which Geese never died and the AOF team isn't that much older than the rest of the cast. Everything else is pretty much the same. The only inconsistency nowadays is Rock canonically being an adult imo

This is really cool. As a kid I played Mugen a lot and also made some pics and videos using sprites. I always loved the style of the KOF characters but never took the time to learn the actual story. I would just look at the sprite sheets for hours and just imagine what their personalities were like lol. Didn't know a thing about Rugal but he's always been one of my favorite fighting game characters just off of how badass he looks. But yeah its cool to finally learn the story.

Jumping into KoF with the 15. Though I've played 13 and 14 but not seriously just casual fun at a friends place. To learn about the lore and how crazy it is is awesome. Can't wait to here about the rest of the sagas.

man fighting game lore is so cool, it's good to occasionally take your nose out of frame data and tier lists and just enjoy the world the devs and designers came up with, and frankly ill go so far as it say it's easier for me to mentally stick with a main if i can even find one nugget about their lore that clicks with me

I love these videos! Do you think we'll get a special ending in KOFXV with a team edit of Leona, Shermie & Iori for an explanation tying up their Orochi bloodlines? Or has this been officially explained since?🤔 Bali's BGM in KOF97 is still my favorite! It gets you pumped up to keep winning. I used to have some good winstreaks in one of our larger local arcades (Game Room)on Saturdays during its original release! 懐かしい～❗

what about FATAL FURY? and its connection? u should do a video game on how great and bad character crossover lore can be like Kula Diamond in DOA 6 or 2b from nier automata being in a game with humans and coming from a world without humans and a story heavily influenced by that fact and being completely reactionless to the human fighters in the soul calibur crossover as a couple of examples. lot of kof and doa crossovers out there and many more crossovers from other games that ppl have shown little coverage of

Fatal fury is connected in that it shares same characters, but there is hard disconnects in the timelines as Geese is dead in fatal fury but alive in KoF.

"Geese is a sore loser to put it mildly" Lol what? He's one of the few fighting game villains that respects his underdogs, has a tragic backstory, and has quite a dynamic character arc for a "evil" character.

ive never had any other background music im happy with as I find them too distracting.
