The stag jump is a connecting move that is a variation of the split jump. It is more often executed by women than men due to the flexibility it requires in the groin.
The stag and split jumps are basically half flip jumps (most common) with a split in the air between takeoff and landing. (The takeoff could also be half Lutz.)
The skater (right handed) enters on a left back inside edge and taps with the right foot. The skater lifts and rotates one-half turn in the air. The left leg is extended forward at the hip and sharply bent at the knee. The right leg is extended straight to the back. The skater lands on the left (entry) foot and steps to the right (tapping) foot. Many skaters do not use as prominent a tap as seen here. For some skaters it may be as little as stepping back on the toe of the right foot.
In a split jump the forward leg is extended straight ahead, with the goal of a 180 degree split, horizontal to the ice at the peak of the jump.
