Killer review as always! FiiO is doing some interesting stuff lately. One thing you forgot to mention is the JDS Labs and Schiit stuff is made in America which for some people might justify the additional cost. Since you like the FiiO K5 Pro you should check out the FiiO BTR5. Little Bluetooth (supports LDAC and Apt-X HD) dongle that also works as a USB DAC/AMP. Out of the 3.5mm it's 80mW but out of the 2.5mm balanced connection it's 220mW. It's got enough juice for the 6XX and Sundara to sound good assuming you have a 2.5mm balanced cable. For a portable unit not sure you can ask for much more.

i haven't listened to this DAP. i'll take your word for it that it's good. but i'd still recommend separate DAC and AMP to new commers every single time. because when you move upwards in the hobby, you'll find that your AMP is the first to be upgraded. me for example, i was moving on to 4 digit AMPs while still relatively satisfied with my $250 DAC. buying a 2-in-1 unit like this Fiio K5 is just going to make your upgrade path more expensive because you can't upgrade DAC and AMP separately.

I highly recommend this amp/dac comco, it can easily drive your HD58x, on 12 o'clock on low gain, and sounds good too.

i spend years researching for the best affordable option for a amp/dac to connect my mic and a nice 250ohm headphones, i also thought getting a big mixer because connecting it directly to the pc was just unfair for my equipment. I ended getting a Scarlet SoloII ... and oh boy i can't say enough how i like it. As a gamer/audio enthusiast this was the best option for the money! great review though!

Yep, I love mine, it's perfect for my use. I needed an optical in and I love the sound of it! This is powerfull enough for my Argons and my brand new DT1990 (btw I now notice the slight sibillance in your voice that I didn't notice with the argons), good review, straight to the point!

I ended up with with this for my Beyer 770's 250ohm and they sound good although I have to push the unit up to 2-3 O'clock on the highest gain level which I thought was a bit underwhelming in that regard. Other than that, I'm liking the Fiio. I'm a 52yr old metal drummer and with years of NOT protecting my ears, it could just be me who is half deaf and the amp/dac/headphone combo I have would be enough for the normal folk.

I love my K5 Pro, I use it to replace my E10K and drive my hd6xx. My only issue is that there's no bass boost like on the E10K. At 300 Ohms, I have to set my gain to 3 in order to drive them.

I love the fact it can output to speakers and headphones simultaneously. If someone is watching me game I want them to hear the game, but I also want to hear the audio through headphones for best situational awareness. I've also had moments when my partner wants to watch movies with lower volume then me, and this solves that issue too if speakers have their own volume knob too

I'd like if you could do a video about balanced/unbalanced outputs/cables/etc. in relation to the the topic of audio for PCs to clarify that side of the matter. Thank you for your work, it's much appreciated.

This thing is sold out everywhere. You gave me an excuse to update my archaic fiio e7 portable to a desktop setup for my Beyerdynamic DT 880's. On the waiting list we goooo~

I'm gonna buy one, I currently the previous K5 hooked to an SMSL Sanskrit 6th for my headphones while my speakers are connected to a cheap Fiio D03K and I'm forced to use window's volume control with those; it's a mess of cables, 3 for power input, 2 to my PC, 1 RCA to connect the DAC with the amp and an RCA to 6.3mm jack for the speakers. This way I'll only have 1 power cable,1 USB and 1 RCA to my new speakers. The K5 Pro also seems to address the only issues with the older K5, which are a channel imbalance when the volume is extremely low (never used it that low anyway) and the shuffling noise when adjusting the volume, both caused by the analog volume knob, now digital. Being able to control the speaker output directly from the unit is fantastic for me and the fact that both headphones and speakers play at the same time is a non issue because I only switch my speakers on or plug my headphones in when I know I'm using either, and never at the same time. Edit: obviously thank you for your review, very quick and concise!

Just got the K5 Pro ESS for $90 with free shipping for Black Friday. My old O2 amp/ODAC crapped out so this was a no brainer to pair with my Sundara.

So I do PC gaming but the main reason I'm shopping for an Interface+Amp is for music production. I just picked up a pair of DT-990s and I'm trying to decide on how to power them to maximum potential for studio use (minimal sound modding) with some gaming thrown in on the side. I think you should take a look at the Ifi Zen Dac too. It's around the same price point (30 bucks less). I heard great things about it but I want to hear your opinion too :)

I just got my K5 pro today, hooked em up to my 58X Jubilees and they're screaming LET"S GO!!!!!! For real! From straight connection to a great x470 Asus Crosshair VII mobo I had to push volume way up. Was still not the kick in the ears I'm getting now! A great purchase even at 240 Canadian!

Any recommendations for this amp/dac but with automatic switching of the line-out and headphones (if plugged in)?

im using this with the Klipsh promedia 2.1 with my bedroom TV setup (optical out from TV and RCA to 3.5 adaptor for speakers) and it sounds damn good.
