Usability
Overall filen is very simple to use. Both - web interface and desktop app are very minimalistic. Design is good and makes the service fun to use. That said, sometimes it feels a little bit bare-bones. It does not offer any advanced features like dropbox, pcloud or icedrive. There’s no virtual drive or files-on-demand feature but the regular synch folder works fine in this case.
Speed
During my testing I had no issues with download or upload speed. Filen is based in Europe so I can’t really talk for folks over in the USA or other continents but here in Europe speeds are great. It doesn’t seem to max out my network speed so Filen wasn’t the fastest cloud storage provider I’ve ever tried but it’s definitely up there.
Price
You can really get your money's worth when buying plans here. It seems like you get a better deal when choosing lower storage amount however. If you want terabytes of space the price becomes the same as dropbox’s. Currently filen only has one lifetime deal but in the past they had multiple lifetime plans. They change out what plans they offer based on demand. If you even see more lifetime plans available - definitely grab them.
Encryption
Filen offers zero-knowledge encryption. And not only that, they even show you their encryption workflow which is absolutely amazing to look at and I haven’t seen it anywhere else. This makes me trust the company even more. Most other companies hide what process they’re using and use marketing buzzwords to get you to buy the product. However files don't need to do that because the stuff they do speaks for itself.
The bad
Filen.io is kinda in its beta stage. The service has only been active for two years and lots of features seem to be missing. Biggest one being upload access. I also dislike how file preview works since you have to download files to preview them. There’s also no online editing support for office documents such as word or powerpoint.

If you’re looking to backup your files somewhere safe - filen is the service for you. I cannot recommend it for people who collaborate with others. It’s a service purely for one person or teams who all have filen accounts.
