Looking good Tom, lets see some Massey combine action next! We use those tube aerators across the pond here too occasionally, but usually only in a small wagon of seed grain or something like that. The steel grain silos we use here all have full floor aeration; one big 5hp fan at the back of the bin and you are good to go!

No wonder you polished the concrete floor during the pour. Looking good Tom. Once the shed is full of grain, it would be really cool if you can show us how you measure the temperature of the stored grain in a future episode :)

I’m sure there’s a lot of people like me that had no idea what happens to grains once they are combined. There must be a high cost to storing grains from the grain store to electricity for the fans and the manpower and plant. It must be a bit of a gamble knowing when to buy or sell

We had wire mesh tunnels covered in hessian material connected to a wind tunnel along the side of the store. out side we had a diesel Lister engine with a four foot fan. probably the noisiest machine on any farm. Father would fill the diesel tank and let it run for a few hours. It was my job to turn it off. when I approached the engine my teeth would vibrate with the noise. No PPE just get in there and shut down asap. Also the vermin loved the Hussain tunnels and chew through, grain would then fill the tunnel making it useless.

Before we saw you walking on the corn, I'd been wondering if that was possible. It looked like liquid coming out of the truck, and I know there is a danger of sinking into silos. Zach on Millennial Farmer supports an initiative to train farmers and keep them safe. Having seen you barley sink into the grain, I am now wondering if it would be a different story if the fans were blowing air into it? Would that make it the grain more liquid and dangerous to walk on? I am also wondering why the screw in fans came without a plug? Here in New Zealand we are not allowed to do any mains electrical work. Not even fitting a plug! They are super strict about it. There are huge fines, and even prison time.
@TheRealInscrutable
@TheRealInscrutable 26 күн бұрын
Can't do your own electrical work? Wow. Here in the US you can do your own residential electrical work. Only if you have to pull a permit do you need an electrician and that is generally only if you're messing with the meter/breaker box connection - or if you need to remove the meter entirely. Are your rules created by the government or by the electricians using the power of government to make themselves necessary to every process? We do have some of the latter here in different areas.
