I never quite understood why BeamNG didn't have operate-able convertibles or sunroofs that slide open. It'd been cool to have these features available on vehicles. If it works for bus doors and such, I suppose it would for that too. This video though, is cool to see the whole process happening. I do love a bit of nerdy stuff, I seem to understand the who's, what's and do's. 🤓

More roof options in BeamNG really needs to be a thing. Glass roofs, convertibles, foldable hardtops, T tops, targa tops, we need all of them removable and moving. Also do add movable sunroofs as well!

I could defiantly see the Burnside as a soft top

This is honestly impressive, even experienced modders struggle with things like an openable roof. I think for the soft top folding you could have reused the original soft top Jbeam and attached it to your moving frame.

Despite the pain you need to be hired by beamNG

For the Bluebuck you could have taken the roof mechanism from the 1958 Ford Fairlane Skyliner and have the trunk open up in reverse and the foldable roof collapse inside of it.

Some of the jank folds at the rear of the soft top are probably due to the original mesh topology. I doubt the devs actually thought someone would actually try to fold it. For best results it might need to be remade just for that purpose, wich is a lot more work than you put already, even more work considering you need to model it planning the topology to fold nicely.... i'm tired already just thinking about the amount of work it would be XD. i wonder if someday you could team up with other modders, they could help you in the areas you dont feel confortable (like material making), i bet something really good and polished would come out of it. Nonethelless you are already making really good content and at the very least, bringing attention to some really cool concepts to be explored by others.

My goodness! All that work to make a foldable roof for a Hopper. It looks like you pulled it off though, fillman! Nice to see a cameo of Spealer as well! 👍

The first one to do this was me, on the first mod ever released for BeamNG, with that 1949 Cadillac Series 62. It was a massive pain in the ass to make it work, and I'm glad more people are making these now, because BeamNG is about the only game where you could do this without faking it.

As an idea of what to do with your newfound power, what about an excavator? A simple excavator we can use to destroy cars with.

There is a car which came as a convertible where the top was a metal hardtop roof that retracted into the trunk/boot of the car and had a similar roof line to the bluebuck and that was the 1957-1958 ford fairlane skyliner, and looking at the design for both the skyliner and the regular fairlane two door hardtops they have a completely different greenhouse and profile. The difference with the skyliner is that the greenhouse is pushed more towards the front of the car and it has a more angular design than the regular fairlane which has more of a bubble top style to it. That would be a cool thing to make in the game with the bluebuck as a template.

The effort to make this looks painful but you did it! I'm always amazed how you create these things. I couldn't do this myself so watching you do it and then download it from the repository will do for me😂

I don't know if it would make it easier but I own a Jeep Wrangler with a soft top like this and the side and back windows are removed entirely before the top itself is folded. maybe it could eliminate the jankiness and complexity of the rear. Otherwise it looks just like the real think. Great Job!

There was a mod a good while back idk if you can still find it I think it was a 68 Cadillac that had a functioning convertible roof and for the fabric to be more lifelike the 8x8 military truck had that on it

My hopes were soured when you said you weren't the best at modeling, but I might as well throw it out there: Could you or someone else make a time machine out of a Bolide? I saw a picture of a mod that did this, but it was in very early stages and it seems to have never gotten past it. Nevertheless, it would be the coolest thing to see my favorite car in the game be turned into the star car from Back To The Future.

not sure if you know about this, but there was a convertible mod for the Barstow, i forgot the name of it but it worked rather well apart from the taillights and i believe the rear quarter windows were kinda messed up

thanks to your tutorial/test videos you made in the past, I've successfully swapped a bolide engine into a pigeon. (lol) I've got some Jbeam stuff and modeling left to do and I'll have it done. as of right now, it actually functions and is in the right position :D
