The NHL hasn't seen a prospect as talented as Connor Bedard since Connor McDavid crossed the NHL Draft's stage back in 2015. Bedard is eligible for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, and he's the first player to ever be granted exceptional status for the WHL.
Note: This video was released in 2021. Check out David St-Louis' breakdown from March 2023: • Connor Bedard is a hoc...

Hi, as the camera guys in Regina it's really neat to see our work breaking down these things. Thanks. Also seeing him a lot definitely we can attest to this skill set. His deception is huge, in how he moves, how hard his shot is coming, and even his size, he plays bigger than he is winning battles in the corners he shouldn't. It's fun to watch day in and day out.

@@mathieuharbour1548 Hopefully not Arizona!!! At least Seattle seems, early on, a stable and solid team with a decent front office. I am confident the potential fan growth would be impressive and their inaugural first round pick of Beniers was solid - Bedard would mesh well with him tbh. Having him drafted to a Canadian team like the Habs would be brilliant for sure, but lumping Seattle in with Arizona is not fair haha!

This year he's like 15th in scoring in the WHL halfway through the season. He's getting lot's of power play time. His shots on goal are 135, more than double that of the leading scorer in the league. The boy can dangle but for me it's too soon to tell if he's the real deal. The World Juniors will tell the tale.

The reason why he isn’t scoring as much is because the second season in the WHL is the toughest for a top end player. First year in the league there isn’t huge expectations from coaches. Once the player begins to show the talent the coaches begin the grooming process for next season. Meaning grooming him for leadership and carrying the load so to speak. In year one he shows he is capable of playing with the top older players and he reaps the benefits of their experience and physical strength. Year 2 lots of those guys are gone depending on team. Now he has to generate scoring learning to expand his game more similar to an older player in league. Puck protection, winning battles for loose pucks, and then assuming leadership responsibilities on and off ice. It’s a big jump. Of course Bedard handles all this with grace but this is some insight into the topic.

First off let me disappoint many of you. He will never get to a McDavid level. I know a bunch of you will disagree and that’s fine. McDavid first off was a by far superior skater at same age. Top end speed, acceleration and lateral mobility. Now I’m not saying Bedard isn’t amazing. He is, but CM is in a different stratosphere and not just by a little. Yes his shot is stronger than McDavid’s was at that age for sure. Passing abilities aren’t even close. And size DOES matter when it comes to being a top sniper in the NHL. Yes there are exceptions such as Marchand.. There is no doubt the kid is going to score some goals in the NHL. But the top scorers are blessed with size. Ovechkin - 6’3” Crosby wasn’t tall but is 200 lbs. Draisaitl - 6’2” Matthews - 6’3” McDavid - 6’1” We aren’t talking top10-20 scorers I mean the TOP scorers. Top 3-5. Now Bedard is young and I don’t know his genetics but I don’t think he’s finishing tall. It shows he’s 5’9” - 181 lbs. which is a good weight for a 16 year old. Hopefully he can still add 2-3 inches and get upwards of 195-200lbs. But he will do well because he is ultra competitive. Will be fun to follow his progression.

he's very flashy but flashy players usually don't translate their flashy skills to the NHL

I was looking for that too, but he is a very compact skater and moves well. He is going to be very hard to check. Obviously, he isn't going to be as dominant in the NHL as he is here, but he still has 2 years to develop before he is drafted. That is a long time to grow and play. He shows real skill and the ability to generate his own and others' scoring chances.

Even if he doesn’t end up being a Mcdavid, I think it’s safe to say that he definitely ends up a top 3-5 player in the NHL.

both passes at 7:30 and 7:42 would be bad passes, the lane clearly isnt there because 43 doesnt use the space well. Those were very bad exemples
