The great parallel of this episode is coupling of the "don't let your man talk, and let you know how weak he really is" with the idea (and rejection) of what they called the Woodworth Personal Inventory, which would have been meant to measure shell shock/ PTSD in returning soldiers.

That scene where Jimmy talks to that guy in the coffee shop before he gets sniped is so damn elite. One of the best scenes in TV history

We finally get to meet the 2nd half of the Dynamic Duo -- Meyer Lansky. Meyer and Lucky are best buds. Both kick up to Rothstein. They are part of the younger generation of mobsters looking to make their way in the world. On the other hand, you have Richard and Jimmy. They establish a bond immediately. "Real recognize real" so to speak.

I'm so worried about spoiling things by saying "Oh, X is such a great character!" because even comments like that make insinuations. But Richard Harrow is a great character. The Phantom of the Opera music playing and the transition to Lucy watching "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is absolutely SUBLIME.

It's crazy how you're watching Boardwalk and Peaky Blinders at the same time. They both aired around the same time too. There was even talk of a crossover in season 2-3 of boardwalk with peaky blinders. Also no spoilers, but i feel peaky blinders season 4 took the main bad guy's characteristics from boardwalk season 3 bad guy. Even how they solved the problem was the same in both shows.

The generation that fought World War 1 (known as the "Lost Generation" for good reason) is one of history's great victims. They grew up in a self-satisfied, optimistic world. But then it turned straight to hell, and from their perspective it never healed. Just one horror after another. Harrow is their embodiment and representative to our time, for folks who prefer visual media over the written word.

How could Jimmy serve in WW1 for three years when the US only joined the war in 1917 and it ended in 1918?

I'm not sure of the exact timeline, but the show starts around New Years Day 1920, and Jimmy's been back a month or so. The episode when he makes the choice to enlist may shed light on the start time. But it's reasonable to think he could have joined up as early as 1916 and (unofficially) been involved,. But even by an official timeline, entering April 1917, through November 1918, and as much as a year to demobilize (actually could have taken much longer), the end of 1919 seems close enough to 3 years, particularly if you factor in the circumstances.
