@@ooperblownup Iron Man just felt guilt about the consequences of his choices, and so he wanted someone else to make them. Unless you mean comics only and the comics were different, in which case I have no idea. I just recall in the movie when they show them all of the Avengers incidents, such as New York. They blame the Avengers, and no one points out the literal nuke that Tony kept from going off and wiping out the entire city and everyone in it. Sokovia was the only incident they caused. A bit late, but the reason why Logan hates flying in a plane is because over the years, Logan has grown to rely more on his heightened sense hearing, smelling and animalistic instincts rather than his eyes, meanwhile inside a plane 3000 ft in the air, all those senses were basically useless

The most interesting thing about Magneto’s character for me is the fact that he’s a Holocaust survivor. And using that experience he justifies his actions to himself and everyone around him by pointing to his past (not literally, but it’s a big part of his decisions). Attempted genocide begets attempted genocide. And in turn this is what brings about the dark future for everyone. A Holocaust survivor attempts to crush humanity under his foot by claiming to be superior than them. Talk about irony.
@matthewmason7792
@matthewmason7792 10 ай бұрын
The funniest part about it too is that the very thing he’s fighting to prevent is exactly his solution. His attempt to stop a genocide is genocide and it’s because of his past that he saw the tell tale signs of humans hating mutants the same way that Germany started hating Jewish people. He saw it before, the disdain, the anger, the blaming and hatred that justified slaughterhouses for humans and he can see it happening all over again. Except he and his brotherhood can change it… by striking first and wiping out the bigotry of non mutants before they can even have a chance to do what the nazies did to his family so long ago.

Tbf this was touched upon in First Class. Erik turning the missles back and Charles begging him to let that be a chance at coexistence by showing mercy. But Erik being a Holocaust survivor just because of his powers knows that once another corrupt tyrant or leader finishes his use for you. As it was unclear if Sebastian Shaw was initially human and experimented on himself to achieve mutant powers in the movies. That in the mercy of Shaw until he had no use for him he was kept alive. Erik does not want to take that chance and wants that authority because he assumes he would be a fair leader that would not abandon his own kind.

The best thing about the 2010s X-Men movies is that they didn't paint Xavier as being completely in the right and Magneto completely in the wrong. (Strangely, Last Stand is the only X-Men movie from the 2000s where you completely understand why he fears humans in the present day the way the cure was made into a weapon as quickly as it was.) I was definitely on Magneto's side for this argument. Xavier had years to try to stop the genocide and experimentation and chose to hide instead.

"Does the end justify the means?" is the whole ordeal. And you choose a more "realist" approach, betting on mankind's darkness and fear, using it to justify a genocide. Charles on the other hand, represents the idealistic hope that we can, and must be better. He stays on course, even if things don't turn out the best in the end, knowing that he would've done everything to stay civilized, principled, and human. After all, what world could be built upon the ashes of mass genocide?
@betoturelli5479

They are two extremes and neither of them works. Erik is willing to do everything and crosses every line in the name of mutants. Charles is willing to turn the other cheek in the name of momentary peace for both races. At the end of the day, they are the reason of every problem. Neither of them are willing to compromise a little bit and work together in a grey area. They are mutants. They could do anything they want, literally. There is a mutant for everything. And they still can't lead the mutants as one in a common goal. But the series needs unlimited plot so their stupid argument is unending.

Days of Future Past is a really underrated superhero flick, definitely the best of this X Men universe. It gets everything right about the plight of mutants more so than most of the movies. This scene is perfect. It's weird that Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix were so middling.

I know this is only a movie, but it never fails to make me shed tears. Charles is so heartbroken by what he’s lost, and so is Eric. While they should have protected the ones they lost, their own agenda became their priority..:

Everyone always praises Hugh Jackmans Wolverine, but something I always notice, I never feel like I’m watching Hugh. At all. It’s a completely different person/look once he’s on screen as Logan. He’s so different in other roles and from what we’ve seen in the public that I literally do not see the Greatest Showman in the slightest.

What I love about this scene is it shows two sides to Erik. One “let him come” he knows Charles has shit he needs to say need to let out. But then he talks about abandonment. Charles utterly abandoned his people his students to drink or feel sorry for himself! Charles! The man Erik saw as a brother in all but blood who he felt it was their destiny to usher in their people to the world together. This man who Erik respected… sacrificed his powers? No that was somthing Erik could not would not and didn’t accept. For him to speak about abandonment? Erik got angry and told Charles a hard painful truth one HE NEEDED TO HEAR

So, I notice there's one moment that no one seems to mention that sets this whole situation up. Right before Charles charges his angry rant at Erik, Logan tries to jump in and stop it from happening, but Erik whispers "let him come." It's a small moment, but it has enormous significance for this scene. Charles blames Erik for leaving him on the beach in Cuba and partially responsible for the fact that Charles is not only in constant agonizing pain from his spine, but also for what happened to Raven. And rather than try and stop Charles, Erik allows him to express his side of the argument and his feelings. Then Erik shows his emotions and the consequences of the last ten years that Charles and Hank have been hiding. Erik makes it quite clear that while he is responsible for what happened in Cuba and what happened with Raven, Charles is just as much responsible for what happened as well, because he chose to hide in his mansion and pretend to be human.

Asking why someone didn’t stop you from screwing them over, is not an excuse for screwing them over. And does Erik really want to talk about the reason why those people wound up dead or experimented upon? That he and his little crusade against the rest of the world did little more than further vilify his own people to the point that such a fate was only inevitable for them? But of course it could never be his fault, so it has to be Charles’s, the one person in the world foolish enough to be a friend to him, just so he could treat him like a personal punching bag.
